McKay gifts Victoria a custom purple Casio F91W when she graduates medical school.
The watch is so slim and lightweight that Victoria sometimes forgets she's wearing it. Old habits die hard, and she finds herself still reaching for her phone to check the time, often needing to discard the gloves she's wearing to avoid contamination.
By the second week, she's mastered the art of pushing up the sleeve of her hoodie with her forearm to check the time. She finds herself looking at TikTok less often when she doesn't need to pull out her phone so frequently. Perhaps that's a good thing now that she's a newly minted doctor.
Sometime in the third week of residency, Perlah notices her watch. "Ah, a fellow Casio fan!" She flashes her DBC-611 at Victoria.
Victoria peers closer at Perlah's watch. "Do you get a lot of use out of the calculator on that thing?"
"Eh, not really." She shrugs. "Sometimes I use it for tips. But truth be told, the keypad is a little too small for my old eyes."
Two months later, Victoria is caught off guard by a patient's arterial spurt of blood which gets on her forearm and watch. McKay helps her clean up.
"Is it ruined?" Victoria asks as McKay runs the watch under the faucet.
"Nah, it's fine. The 'WR' stands for 'water resist.' It can handle splashes." McKay rubs soap into the band and gives it one last blast of water. "See? Good as new."
"Oh great." Victoria holds out her arm, offering access to her wrist. She doesn't actually need help putting the watch back on, but it's a good excuse to get McKay to touch her. "It's my favorite watch. The strap is so comfortable."
"Comfortable strap, huh?" McKay murmurs, a sly smile on her face. Her fingers encircle Victoria's wrist, holding the watch in place as she cinches the buckle. "There, all done sweetie. You just let me know if you need any more help with straps. I'd be glad to assist my favorite intern."
On McVadi and Mohabbot double date nights, restaurant servers always mistake Abbot and McKay as a couple.
"Isn't that a bit racist?" Abbot wonders aloud as their apologetic waiter skitters away. "Assuming the two white people people at the table are a couple?"
Victoria shoots him an amused look over the top of her menu. "Um, Dr. Abbot. He didn't assume you two were a couple because you're white... he thought that because you're both old."
Santos finds out where Victoria disappears to after their nights out drinking.
"Oh my god, you sleep at McKay's place when you're drunk?" Santos asks incredulously.
Victoria shifts uncomfortably. "It's not what you think. She just monitors me to make sure I don't aspirate."
Santos frowns. "So, what? She watches you while you sleep on her couch?"
"Not exactly." Victoria won't look her in the eye. "She lets me sleep in her bed. And, um... she stays... with me."
Santos can't help the elated laugh that escapes her. "Holy shit. You've been ditching me and Huckleberry to go cuddle with McKay? Way to go, Crash."
Victoria looks like she's about to die of embarrassment. "You're making a big deal out of noth--"
"Oh come on, I'm happy for you. I've got eyes, McKay's a good catch." Santos can barely contain her glee. She side hugs Victoria and delivers a congratulatory punch to her shoulder. "I gotta know though, are you the little spoon?"
Victoria splutters, trying to shrug Santos off of her. "I really don't think--"
"No, you're definitely the little spoon." Santos interrupts her again. She punctuates each question with a poke on the arm. "Which side of the bed does she sleep on? Does she make you breakfast afterwards?"
Victoria extricates herself from Santos's embrace, radiating annoyance. "Go away, please."
"All right, all right..." Santos relents. But she can't resist one last parting shot as she strides away from Victoria. "But hey. Maybe try showing up to McKay's house when you're sober? I'm sure she'd be willing to play doctor with you even when you're not drunk off your ass!"
I want to read a fic where Victoria and Cassie do the cliched "drunk married in Las Vegas" thing, with the twist being that Cassie is actually completely sober through the whole process.
Victoria attends PTMC's yearly mandated workplace harassment prevention training for the first time.
She and her coworkers have to come to the hospital on one of their days off to attend the training, which must be why Dr. Robby is so visibly disgruntled. They meet the instructor in a conference room on the same floor as the C-suite offices.
Coffee and donuts are served, which Dana pointedly ignores. Victoria sits down next to McKay, opening the notebook she's brought with her, ready to take notes. Trinity laughs at her. "This isn't school, Crash. No one's gonna quiz you."
The instructor dims the lights and brings up a PowerPoint presentation describing different types of workplace bullying. One of the slides mentions derogatory nicknames, at which Dennis nudges Trinity. She merely smirks and crosses her arms haughtily.
The lecture turns to the subject of inappropriate romantic relationships between people in the same chain of command. Victoria shoots a look at Samira and Dennis--she knows they're both dating attendings that they work directly under. Samira just looks bored while it's Trinity turn to nudge Dennis and waggle her eyebrows.
The instructor begins discussing sexual harassment. Victoria is starting to zone out when the slide about unwanted touching between coworkers catches her eye. She frowns. McKay touches her all the time. Sometimes a hand on the back or shoulder. Occasionally a hug. In fact, as they're sitting in the room right now, their knees are touching.
Victoria stares down at her notebook, tuning out the instructor's droning voice. Could McKay have been sexually harassing her this whole time and she just didn't realize it? Dr. McKay was one of the best doctors she knew--kind and empathetic. A real role model that Victoria looked up to. That she could be accused of sexual harassment because of the reassuring, supportive touches she gave her med student seemed wrong.
Victoria is jolted out of her train of thought when the lights click back on. The lecture is over, and her coworkers begin shuffling out of the conference room. She follows McKay out.
"Ugh," McKay groans as she throws her cup in a trash can. "Glad that's over. That coffee was terrible. Got any plans for the rest of the day?"
"Uh, no." Victoria says. Their shoulders bump as they make their way to the parking lot. More inappropriate touching. "I was just planning to study."
McKay stops midway between her and Victoria's car. In the distance, they see Robby and Dennis get into a truck together.
"Well, I was thinking of finding a diner and having some brunch. Want to join me?" McKay cups Victoria's hip with a hand.
Instead of answering, Victoria peers into McKay's eyes. "I didn't realize so many relationships in the Pitt were against the rules."
McKay laughs. "Oh, yeah. Well, that lecture was just some lawyer CYA bullshit. If the relationship is consensual, no one really cares."
Victoria stares at McKay's gold chain. Right, consent. That was the issue she hadn't considered yet. Did she want McKay to stop touching her?
"So what do you say, sweetheart? Can I buy you some pancakes?" McKay's keys jingle in her hand as she turns towards her car. "I'll drive."
Victoria takes a deep breath and follows after her. "Sure... I'll consent to that."
Trinity would totally volunteer to drive Victoria to the dentist for her wisdom teeth removal just for the chance to collect some post-sedation blackmail material.
After the procedure, Trinity is delighted to see Victoria is a blubbering puffy-cheeked mess. She sticks her phone camera in Victoria's tear-stained face and jokes about showing the world "the real Dr. J."
Victoria blearily swats Trinity's hands away and demands that she never show McKay the video. She starts rambling about how nice McKay is to her at work and how she doesn't want to disappoint her.
Trinity develops an evil plan. She drives to McKay's house and dumps a stumbling Victoria at the doorstep. She rings the doorbell and sprints back to her car. She's driving away as the door opens, and gives a sarcastic wave to a concerned and bewildered McKay.
Trinity is still cackling to herself when she arrives back home. McKay is blowing up her phone with increasingly indignant text messages, which she responds to with only laughing emojis.
Dennis is cooking lunch in the kitchen when Trinity enters the apartment, slamming the front door loudly. He sighs when he sees the expression on her face--one he's seen many times before. It usually means someone has been (lovingly) bullied.
Just thinking about how McKay might show up to work one day wearing a purple hair tie and Dana notices that it looks exactly like one Victoria has worn before.
There's a gun safe in the corner of Jack Abbot's master bedroom that Samira Mohan rarely sees open.
But tonight, Jack needs to do his taxes, so he fetched his W2s from the safe and left the door ajar.
Samira approaches the safe and peers in curiously. A motion sensing light strip clicks on, illuminating the interior. On the top shelf, next to some neatly stacked boxes of ammunition, she spots an envelope labeled in Jack's neat penmanship, "IN CASE OF EMERGENCY--TO SAMIRA."
