Murmurs of a timeless partnership written across the grasslandsâ a Jungle Myna rides atop an Indian Rhinoceros, feeding on ticks, flies, and other parasites as its giant companion grazes and wanders. The rhino finds relief from pests and perhaps an early warning of danger, while the myna gathers food stirred up by every heavy step. Together they embody an enduring bondâwhere companionship, necessity, and survival meet in the quiet poetry of the wild. Trust-bound companionship â Rufous-necked Hornbill (Aceros nipalensis)
In a quiet tree hollow, the female seals herself inside with mud and fruit pulp, leaving only a thin slit of light. Hidden within, she waits with her eggs.
Each day the male returns with figs and small prey, passing life through the narrow opening.
When the chicks grow strong, the seal breaksâand the hollow opens again to the forest wind.

Hodgsonâs Giant Flying Squirrel glidesâ
a silent sail between trees.
By dawn, the forest alone remembers,
holding the secret in its leaves.

Gone, yet never gone at all, as no one truly leaves those who remember...

Flame bearer: Goldcrest (Regulus regulus)
Even after it has gone, its presence will remain

Birding is never about what we find, but what the forest chooses to reveal.
In the rain-soaked hush of DehingâPatkai, the mist parted â and there it was, the Grey Peacock-Pheasant (Polyplectron bicalcaratum) shimmering like a secret whispered by the wild. Capturing it under the dim canopy was a challenge; the ISO soared to 51,200 â yet the moment outshone every pixel.

In that stillness, the jungle nightjar at Bhigwan in Maharashtra taught me another kind of beauty: that not all wonders rise with wings in the sun. Some belong to the twilight and shadow, to silence itself....

With the Blue-faced Malkoha at Bhigwan, Maharashtra on 14th Aug., 2025, my Malkoha trilogy was completeâIndiaâs three shy cuckoo cousins, each bound to its own landscape and mystery.
Rain-Soaked Wanderer On the misty morning of 15th August 2025, the rains had just washed over the rugged fields of Kharpudi, Maharashtra. The earth smelled of wet soil, the air heavy with monsoon silence. Out of this damp greyness emerged an unexpected figureâa Striped Hyena (Hyaena hyaena), its coat dripping with rain, stripes darkened against the pale sheen of its fur.
