for halloween mavis is going to be ripley :3 bc alien is one of her favourite movies (so is 2001: a space odyssey... she finds it really interesting the way earthlings view aliens+space). next year she might be a xenomorph :p

Feelings tend to get congested in places like this, so many emotions of the same shade seemingly feeding off each other. The despair is so cloying Mavis has to cough, and still she feels it sinking into her lungs, plugging up her airways. “Here.” She lifts up one arm, using the other to pull up her shirt, exposing the wound over her waist. The pain is almost negligible, under the barrage of feelings she's sensing. Almost. “Know what to do with this?” What she means is: know what to do with me? She might look human enough, but she still isn't one.

the way that everyone's feelings 'look' to mavis differ from person to person. it's sort of a mix of her own perception of them plus just the general vibes they give off. for example.... let's say she's sensing rocket's feelings... to her his feelings are always kinda prickly. even when he's happy it kinda pokes n prods. the spikes retract a little but they're still there. and ofc when he's angry/scared they're extra sharp n pointed. and for peter... his feelings manifest as like an aura surrounding him, so she knows how he's feeling based on the brightness/colour of that aura (cuz of his sun stuff... if he's shining then he's Very happy) :3 it's different for everybody!!

She is not a stranger to madness. Or the recognition of something unrecognisable as madness. After all, is there anything sane about the way Mavis sees the world? The cosmos splintering into infinity in her mind's eye, time dripping out from cracks across the galaxy—leaking like tears onto the back of her hand. Helen flickers in and out of her vision, every other version unravelling further than the last. And still, despite (or maybe because of) everything, at the end of each fraying thread, she is never any less Helen. Never any less Sharp.

“I don't know what that means.” Is it the turn of phrase, or is it madness itself? The Celestial Madonna knows all. She should. But the more she sees the less she knows. The more she knows the less she sees.

Or maybe this is a joke. Or a lie hidden underneath the joke.

“You're yourself.” Or maybe— “Aren't you?”

" the very question pangs at brooke's heart in a way she understands all too well. even if they come from different walks of life, hell, even different planets, loneliness is universal. brooke has become adept at masking her own, but it never really goes away — not completely anyway.

she may not be able to sense these things the way mavis can, but she's intuitive in her own way. " you're my friend, mavis. " her words are both gentle and firm, hoping to all hell that she gets her point across. " and even if you weren't, you still deserve kindness. "

The question slips out like an accident—quick, thoughtless—expelled without any real intention. Why are you so nice to me? But Mavis doesn't do anything by accident. Shouldn't, anyway. The Celestial Madonna can make mistakes, but she doesn't do accidents.

Thankfully, Brooke answer comes just as quick. Why wouldn't I be? As if it's simple.

Is it?

Mavis knows feelings, but the intention behind those feelings sometimes elude her.

“I've never had a friend like you before.” Maybe only Brooke could get Mavis to blurt out what's on her mind before thinking it through. Everyone's special in ways only the Madonna knows, but maybe Brooke's special in a way even Mavis can sense. “What other things do I deserve?” She's smiling now.

Mavis knows her roles, and knows them well. She's too tangled up with the cosmos, with the stars, to fully be integrated with people. And that's not for a lack of love, or a lack of faith. Some things just are. And other things aren't.

She looks up, hoping to gauge Kendra's feelings with her eyes instead of just her senses. “Do I seem hopeful to you?”
