he was happy with that deal. for now. so yeah, he shook his hand. cheesy, he could feel himself cringe, but a deal was a deal. and he was glad that his father was agreeing to get help.
his response was instantaneous.
“ i pick you, dad. ” it was something that he could appreciate, daniel giving him options. it symbolised how far he had come. growing up, he had never considered different styles. anthony had been making an effort to not pay attention to it, and even he could tell. he guessed … this whole thing with johnny - which, again, he had tried not to pay much attention to - had actually changed him. despite losing the tournament, his dad was trying something new.
anthony didn’t want to let him down; because he’d find some way of screwing it up. but … compared to someone like johnny, who would motivate him to quit, his dad knew him. and could maybe put up with the bullshit anthony would probably try and pull when this fear was forgotten five minutes into wax on, wax off. anthony would try. he would really, actually try. but quitting was harder when he had to live with the guy.
besides. he … trusted daniel. to help him. so with a small smile, he waved a hand. “ i get there are other styles out there, but i’ve got this – weird relationship with karate. if i’m going to do this, i want something familiar. but i do reserve the right to listen to music, podcasts, audio books and youtube videos while wax off-wax offing, though. ” he paused; knowing the deal daniel lost, so with a clear of his throat, he tried to … help with that. “ don’t worry about that deal either. gotta be some family-clause loophole in it. and if there isn’t, we’ll just say sam taught me. or literally anyone else. we … good with that ?? ”
HE TRIES TO HIDE THE SMILE THAT FOLLOWS. it feels good, really, to have anthony say he would choose him then. that perhaps he hasn’t ruined everything. that mr. miyagi’s teachings were just a one off for him and move on. he is already dealing with the fact sam seems to prefer johnny’s teachings and ways ( she barely speaks to him anymore and he knows it’s his fault ). “alright. as long as you listen to be when I explain what you have to do. and you trust me.” he will trust anthony to do it, and he expects to be trusted about how at first, it’s likely there won’t be visible results. and it will be frustrating.
that part he knows well. the mention of the deal causes him to pause for a moment. “this isn’t teaching. this is showing my son what I learned of karate.” he points out, even if the deal was explicit about him not teaching, this wasn’t that, not really. this was father and son, spending time together in their own dojo. “this wasn’t a dojo, this was miyagi’s house first. my house. if terry silver has a problem, then I can show him what i think of his opinion.” a bit harsh, a bit too much shown of aggression. anthony still doesn’t know about silver, not entirely. he hates the thought of his son meeting the man.
or even be on the same room. “just promise me that you will avoid that man at all cost, alright? he is worst than kreese.” and he can’t have his son around him.
