without context. for my dear friend
my Rook's name is Myrkynsalka. She has a red face because she's constantly drunk bc it's hard to fight two gods when you are sober loool.
as a mage, she's absolutely thrilled about Emmrich, and her best friend is Davrin because he's a total bro
maybe draw the dav girls later
I find it curious that, despite all their grievances, Fenris and Anders treat Merrill as an adult, as they should, because she’s presumably around the same age as the Hero of Ferelden, right? Unlike Isabela, who constantly calls her "kitten," "silly," and so on. I won’t complain about Varric, after all, for all her abilities, Merrill is completely unsocialized, and she really needs someone to watch her back in a foreign city with an unfamiliar culture. And it’s precisely because she lacks human socialization that she communicates so awkwardly, not because she’s stupid.
And I think that's why Anders and Merrill's relationship has potential: yes, he's being hypocritical and sanctimonious, but at least he's criticizing her for her views and stance, in other words, he perceives her as a capable person.
Agreed except I think you misunderstand Isabela’s terms of endearment and clear romantic and platonic affection for Merrill as infantilization instead of them being, well, terms of endearment and clear romantic & platonic affection. Isabela knows Merrill is an adult too, and watches her back just as much as Varric does. She just also enjoys seeing the chaos when Merrill does what she’s gonna do anyway because Isabela herself loves chaos to a degree too, AND she loves it even more when someone she cares deeply about does it, even if it’s unintentional.
She doesn’t infantilize Merrill with her terminology. She sees Merrill for what she is — an autonomous adult but still naive in the ways of human culture and society because she’s a Dalish elf. And she also sees Merrill for what she also is — an adorable, intelligent, but also quite literal person who doesn’t always catch onto social cues & doesn’t have as much experience with interaction (and other things) as Isabela does. Isabela wants to support, protect, help, & kiss Merrill. But she also knows Merrill can and does hold her own on her own all fine and dandy most of the time.
I don't know English very well, but your point is quite convincing. I'm open to the idea that I'm simply biased against Isabela. So this opinion is, firstly, fresh, and secondly, intriguing, and I agree that there's a chance Isabela is just spontaneous by nature, which is why her attitude comes across that way. Maybe I'll draw something about Isabela and Merrill!
when mom goes stand nicely I’m taking picture
ahem.
I still think there's something like a mutual care in their interactions
I'm imagining that they would have had long dialogues about the differences between human and elven culture or something. Remember how in Awakening, Anders suggested something like chatting to Velanna? In this case, it could actually happe, but now he's the gloomy grump.
