Singer-songwriter-guitarist Alan Merrill introduced by Meat Loaf at the Empire Theater London UK 1987.  Alan (songwriter of the rock classic “I Love Rock N Roll”) played guitar with Meat Loaf for a few years in the late 1980s.

As music videos go, it’s straight and to the point. It does what it needs to do, and it’d be fairly bog standard, but Meat and Cher both bring a lot of charisma to the table and make it work! I do love the transition with Meat going from his offstage self to the over the top character, frilly shirt and all.

Blue and orange colour grading, explosions, high speed chases, and lots of male gaze. That’s right, this one was directed by Michael Bay, how did you guess? Despite that though, there’s a lot of neat imagery, borrowing heavily from Beauty And The Beast and a bit of Dracula as well. And on a horror note, is that Jeffrey Combs chasing Meat down?

Meat’s take on the R&RD formula is quite a bit different to Jim’s dancing duet, showing his genie of the jukebox saving people from their troubled situations with the power of music, including a young Angelina Jolie. Almost works as a parallel to Baal luring the people of the city out into the wilderness. (Also, I thought the angels were meant to have guitars before they had wings? That angel looks rather guitarless to me!)
