I'm normal about this
this is my semi secret side blog.
many pilots who fail missions due to personal oversight try to scramble their mechs reactors, atomically incinerating their machines and themselves and therefore that switch was removed permanently from the cockpit
handler breaking complete operational security by radio transmitting clearer directions to their pilot because they can tell she's confused from satellite imaging
pilot nervously refreshing her communications log for new messages from command for the last 2 hours much to the dismay yet complete understanding from her fellow pilots
I should become an applied robotics major and proverbially create the torture nexus by designing and manufacturing mechs
I get a little horny thinking about a mechs dynamic force loading. like industrial hip joint servos and potentiometers and hydraulics and cable joints and targeting systems and power units and just the weight and elegance of it all. meet my 20 ton flying car mom we're getting married next week
in analog robotics potentiometers are used to measure the um.. (blushes cutely) linear and and angular position of moving parts... sure, you could use hall effect sensors or even gyroscopic pots or linear encoders but to me.. nothing beats a redundant potentiometer! explore my ohmic resistance....
sometimes you just say things to get them off your mind and then 100 people show up outside your door
think i ought to talk about the mechs that ive designed in a 2d psychics based sand box game called People Playground
felt inspired after a code geass rewatch. this is my first foray into designing mechs in this game. love the design of the sutherlands. significant amount of thought on how it looked and how it could move but they could not decide whether the pilot sat like a motorcycle or on their back. Also love the ejection system in the show as well. the fact that the cockpit is also just a piece sandwiched in the chassis that's technically free moving is so cool.
did my own thingy. love the legs on this one even though they dont move at all really. heavily armored and awesome. rocket engines so it could fly around and shit. I also really like how scrappy it looks, and the armoring is a personal favorite as well.
heavier version of #2, legs had a lot more flex and could absorb a lot more impact force but still cant really do a lot with the posture. Added a computer decoration thing in the middle as well and it has its own little hangar ill show someday where you can like plug it into other computers. its so fun. i play with my mechs like dolls.
my beloved. my baby. legs bend from a squat to standing, the main chassis that holds all the important sensitive components rotates so you can really take full advantage of all those boosters and slam into the wall so hard the pilot is disintegrated into a mist.
the most common feature on all of them is the way the pilot ejects and the overall silhouette. I really like the ejection system because watching your little guy get launched out of an exploding mech is awesome and it is NOT guaranteed they survive the impact.
there are a significant amount of challenges with the available parts and the way they interact with each other so unfortunately my dream of an anatomically scaled and proportioned mech with working posture and attitude control is out of reach :( in real life however…. designing these guys takes up way too much space in my brain i get an itch and i just start making mechs again. I adore giving the pilots physical augments and blowing them up and stuff and overall just messing around with these designs.
this is a video of the #2 mech doing its thang.
and this is what one of the hanger designs looks like. ITS SO FUN. this stuff takes up wayyyy too much space in my brain.
I feel like we oughta be more curious how mech pilots or Gundam pilots are pulling off 20G maneuvers like your heart must be the size of an elephant or their brain receiving oxygen on its own or like stims even. idk. it's crazy to me
veteran pilot after aging out of the mech program trying to drive a car for the first time: okay so like how do I have sex with this

seasoned general who runs a pilot rescue and rehabilitation farm that's just 10 acres of open field they get to play in
i love seeing tendons move under my skin and being reminded im an awesome meat puppet #mypuppet
"can love bloom on the battlefield?" no. go back to killing each other.
begging on the side of the street for a stick of ram so my robot girlfriend at home can live a day longer...
somewhere in the country side a starving pilot is refusing to leave her devastatingly crippled mech due to the overwhelming guilt of abandonment and reliance on combat drugs the broken life support system won't stop injecting her with
It must be terrifying to be a normal soldier or even a regular starship pilot in a world where mechs exist. Imagine charging into battle when suddenly a hunk of metal the size of a building lands in the middle of your unit, stomping most of them under its foot. Imagine flying in formation when something bigger but way faster than you swats you out of the sky with its hand. It would be terrifying and I would love to see more stories written in this kind of setting but not from a pilot's perspective.
