I got half way through cutting together the video when I added the song I am in the process of licensing. Echo of You by Chow Chow Mandy. Below you can see a screen grab of be separating the audio from the clips I import, and deleting it. As I want no ambient sounds that was recorded from the camera.
After adding the music initially, I realised just dropping the song along with the video so far would not work for the narrative. What I would ideally like is a longer instrumental at the starts, and focus on the chorus with a heavier beat once the story takes our actors outside. So I started looping parts of the song, and cut parts out entirely. While it was not my intention to do this at all, it is necessary for the final result. However these changes will be discussed with the band before using this video anywhere else after this module is over.
With the changes in music, I could now really focus on hitting things like steps, scene changes and impactful movement to the beat of the song. Below I was cutting together 2 scenes of each actor walking towards the camera, however swapping between the two and keeping each step perfectly on the beat. Which is exactly what I was hoping to achieve when I was first envisioning my project after watching the Epitome shoes campaign.
Lastly, I was looking at the beginning before the music started and decided to add some of Final Cut’s sound effects, such as an alarm going off, the drawing of curtains. After sharing what I had cut so far for some feedback from other creatives, it was recommended of adding an effect of ‘from night to day’. Which makes the beginning of the pineapple panning scene at the start dark, and as the curtain sound goes, the light changes to be looking out an open window. Initially I was concerned the sound effects where a bit cheesy, however I feel as if the final results really works well together.
