“i’m sorry,” her features fell as she looked to bethany, a frown forming. she still felt guilty. “i’m glad your family’s here. we’ll be okay, promise. i’m gonna try my best to figure out what we’ll do from here.” though she only had michonne to plan with; ezekiel was no where to be found.

“Maggie. This is the last time I’ll say this, it’s not your fault and it never will be your fault that this happened to me. I’m never going to put the blame on you for this, please stop apologizing.” She frowned, “Is there anything I can do to help?Micah and Hannah are safe right now, I want to help.”

“how’re you feeling, bethany?” maggie asked quietly as she approached her friend, offering her a small smile. “i’m glad to see you back on your feet, despite everything that’s goin’ on.”

“Physically? Never better, except for the scabbing and the fact that my body will never looked the same again.” She shrugged, “I’m glad to be back, Micah and Hannah are here. But right now I’m more worried than I am comforted by that fact.”

“no need to apologise,” rosita said quickly, “not your fault.”

“Sure it isn’t, doesn’t make it any easier.” She replied, “What happened? When you got shot.”

“nothing out of the ordinary. half my family and friends are dead at the hands of the saviors and i was recently shot.” she said flatly.

“I’m lucky Micah and Hannah just got here.” She replied softly, taking out her stash of tea bags, “I’m sorry that happened to you.”

“tea sounds really good.” she said with a sigh. “thanks. i’m just… on edge.”

Bethany went over to a cupboard and grabbed two cups. She then filled them with water and placed one in the old microwave before hitting the 3 minute button to heat it up. “What’s wrong? If I may ask.”

she let out a sigh. “right. i can do that.”

“Thanks.” She nodded, “Would you like some tea while we work? It’s kind of shitty tea but it’s got caffeine in it so it’s not that bad.”

“like i got shot in the stomach,” eric replied, though he wasn’t annoyed or snapping at bethany. he was almost always a calm and collected person. a yawn escaped his lips. “but the painkillers are helping. i’m glad you’re out, bethany.”

“I definitely know what that pain is like, only more of a burning feeling all over your body.” She chuckled softly. It definitely wasn’t something to joke about but she couldn’t hold onto it forever. “I’m glad to hear it, I know they’re not the strongest but they’re something. Me too, Eric.”

“So, how’re you feeling? I just got out of here a few days ago, I’m not cleared to treat people yet but since I’m here I figured I’d check up on you.”

    “𝓦hat–? No way!” Jerry scoffed. “Everyone likes        cobbler. Whoever doesn’t like it, clearly hasn’t had        my favourite.”

“My family’s never been great cooks so I’ve never had good cobbler. Maybe it’s time I try someone else’s.”

“you wanna talk about the scar on my face? bite me.” rosita snapped.

“Not particularly, Rosita. I was just hoping you’d be able to help me seperate these supplies out.”

“of course, it is my pleasure.” the king didn’t know anything about the woman, but was looking forward to getting to know her better. it was important to him that he made a good impression to the different people that lived in alexandria. “then i will look for coconut oil, and burn ointment as well.” they could never have too much supplies. “how are you healing?” 

Bethany had heard highly of King Ezekiel. Everyone from the Kingdom had great respect for him, she figured she could give him the same. He had done her no wrong yet. “That would be greatly appreciated, thank you.” She nodded slightly, “I’m alright. Doc says I’m just about ready to get out of here. I’ll be in a wheelchair though. For a few days at least.”

“I should have been more cautious, there are always things that could have been changed for a more positive outcome. I’m no leader. I’ve told everyone that, I don’t know why she trusted me to lead you guys,” Jesus admitted quietly. “You don’t have to apologize. I was worming my way into your friend circle, don’t deny it,” he teased lightly.

“She trusted you because she knows you have the makings to be a good leader. You just need to be confident in yourself. You brought some of us back alive. I may not be perfectly intact, but I’m alive. That’s all that matters to me.” She replied easily. “I should’ve been nicer. You don’t deserve my rudeness, you were just trying to be nice.”

“Firepower is only half the battle. You already know I’m ready to do whatever you think is best for us, but only after you’ve healed up,” Micah admitted softly.

“Yeah, but they’re pretty smart too... I don’t like this war.” She sighed. “I want to leave, Micah.... But these people.... They need me, don’t they? We have so few medics, it’s pretty sad actually. Maybe just for now we’ll stay.”

“what?” michonne snapped. she was in a bad mood, for more reason than one. walking around alexandria was just a reminder of everything they’d lost and everything they still had to lose. most days, michonne was capable of being upbeat and strong about it. but some days, some days, she was just tired and angry.

Bethany had gotten out of the infirmary but conditionally. She was now in a wheelchair until her legs were healed enough to remove the bandages. Frowning as she had gotten stuck due to some rocks she saw Michonne. Seeing the woman snap it was clear she wasn’t in the best of moods, “Uh, well I was wondering if you might be able to help me clear these rocks... I’m a little stuck.”

“i’m just doing my job,” aaron said quickly, “can i help you with something or…?”

“Uh, yeah actually.” Bethany frowned, with the bandages still on she had been stuck in one of the wheelchairs they had found, “These wheels really suck, I can barely get anywhere. Would you be able to get me something to drink? I know it’s a lame request but I would really appreciate the help.”

“it is nice to meet you as well, miss bethany. i’ve come to check in on you, since hearing of your injuries.” every person in alexandria was valuable to him. to rick and maggie, as well. with war came death, injury, and risk. he did not want to lose one person. he gives bethany a sweet smile. “does the infirmary have the correct medicine in order to ease your pain? my companion jerry and i have begun to go on regular supply runs ourselves, we would love to gather whatever you may need.”

“Well, thank you for visiting.” She smiled in return. It was nice to get visitors even though the only people she needed to see were Micah and Hannah. But it gave her a chance to make amends, Bethany hadn’t been the nicest person ever since she had joined the Hilltop. It was time to change that, even just a little. “We have burn ointment, yes. But I don’t think there’s too much left. Though if you can find coconut oil that’d be great. Once my scabs have healed over it’ll good for the dry skin.”

“you’re right,” maggie sighed, nodding her head slowly. her attention moved to the bump, the baby growing inside her day by day. “good, good,” she nodded her head. “i found out what i’m havin’. already thinkin’ of names.”

“That’s good to hear.” She nodded, “What’s the gender? I’d love to hear the ideas you have for names.”
