Heart transplantant in process!

Cardiac transplantation is the replacement of a falling heart whit a heart from a suitable donor.

It is generally reserved for patients whit end-stage congestive heart failure who are estimated to have less than 1 year to live whiteout the transplant.

During the procedure. The ventricles are excised, leaving the great vessels, right atrium, and left atrium of the recipient. The donor heart is then sewn to these areas.

Tus doctor holds in his hands a diseased heart which has just been removed form a patient during a heart transplant operation. Cardiopulmonary (or heart-lung) bypass machine temporarily takes over the function of the heart and lungs during surgery, maintaining the circulation of blood and the oxygen content of the body. This patient is one step closer to get his new heart.
