I was looking up drawings from medieval manuscripts and found so many that I wanted to post and comment on to my main account but I also didn’t want to annoy my followers…so I made an entire sideblog to do it instead lmao.

Cats (2019)

Lol okay but seriously, this kitty has a creepy uncanny valley human face and I don’t like it. She (I know calicos can be male but it’s super rare so I’m going with “she” here, even if that face does look like a human man) also has really short front legs, how does she even walk or stand on those??? The black spot on her head also looks more like hair with bangs which just makes it look even more human-like.

Let’s look at another dragon

What a cutie 🥰 He looks like a curious little fellow.

I guess he’s technically a wyvern since he doesn’t have arms. He’s still different from the typical wyvern design we know nowadays because here his wings are attached to his big ole feet. It looks cute for sure, but then I tried picturing him flying, and…well…how would that work. Maybe he’s a flightless dragon and the wings are used to attract mates or something??? Maybe only the males have winglike designs on their legs? Yes I know I’m overthinking this but this blog is for posting artwork from medieval manuscripts and rambling about them so yeah.

Anyway, moving on from that, I love that curled feather on the top of his head. It makes me think of a Dr. Seuss creature for some reason…I also love his skinny snout and his little beard.

Don’t you just hate it when you bite your own tail and realize you suddenly have a conjoined twin attached to it?

The tail twin looks so horrified that its sibling would bite it like that. Poor guy lol.

I’ve seen several dragon drawings where they have heads growing out of their tails…I wish I knew why that was. Maybe one day someone was drawing a dragon and noticed how similar their tails are to their necks and thought to themselves “Duuuuuude what if this dragon’s tail was actually another dragon’s neck…” so they drew a head on the tail, showed it to everyone and they all thought it was hilarious and started doing it too (this is just me being funny, please don’t interpret this as a genuine theory lol).

I love the shades of red in the dragons’ color palettes and the white and dark red markings on their faces…the white dots on the main twin’s neck make it look like it’s wearing a pearl necklace lmao.

I also love that their wings resemble bird wings instead of bat wings…that’s a trend we’ll see a lot in future dragon posts.

What a cute little pic- holy fuck, what is up with that dragon at the top. Conjoined twins that share a head? Actually I think I’ve seen a picture before of two conjoined human twin skeletons that were kinda like that…yeah I just looked it up. I’m not gonna add it to the post since it will definitely disturb some people but if you look up conjoined twin skeletons you’ll find it.

Anyway, conjoined twin dragons sharing a head like that is actually pretty cool, but I don’t like the way they’re spying on the dog and hare. Put that tongue back in your mouth, you pervs.

I love that pretty pink cape she’s wearing and those cute little spots on her head, they make me think of a fawn.

I noticed she has a fluffy little bunny tail, weirdly enough…

Have you ever seen a creature design so good that you wished you had made it yourself?

That’s how I feel about this giraffe lmao.

Obviously it doesn’t perfectly resemble a real giraffe but it does still have some accuracies like the legs, hooves and of course the long neck (a fluffy version though lol). I was going to include the spots but they look more like the spots of a cheetah, leopard or jaguar (sorry, I can’t remember the difference lmao). Its body looks very feline-like in general, plus it also has whiskers on its face.

I also love the one unicorn horn on its head. And I already mentioned the fluffy neck but I wants to bring it up again because I just love the way it looks (again, very feline-like).

Its head feels very giraffe-like and dragon-like at the same time, the way the neck is shaped also makes me think of a dragon more than a giraffe.

I never knew a giraffe/dragon/cheetah/unicorn hybrid was something I needed in my life but apparently it is.

Terrible news: vore existed in medieval times too 😔

Sooooo wtf. To start on a positive note, I love the design of the white dragon, the bunny ears are super cute, I love the spikes along its back and tail and I love those spikes coming out of its legs. I also like how the pink dragon’s wings look insect-like.

Now that the positive comments are out of the way, why the hell does the bunny dragon have a hole in its chest for its prey to escape? Wouldn’t it have died from starvation back when it was a baby since its prey can just escape from being eaten? Also damn that pink dragon must have really long neck. Thats not super weird or anything since lots of dragons have long necks but I wanted to point it out anyway. Also something about the way its tail is curled up gives me the ick. The pink color also makes me imagine the dragon’s skin feeling fleshy instead of scaly…eughhhh.

I do find it hilarious how the pink dragon doesn’t even look scared, he’s just like “Well. This sucks.”

A knight in shining armor riding his noble steed into battle

…or a bunny and his pet snail riding a dog.

First of all, why. Second of all, I wonder if people back then thought that a snail’s eyestalks were antennae because not only does this snail have antennae but so did one of the snailcats in a previous post. This one also has eyes on the sides of its head so that also tells me that people must’ve mistaken their eyestalks for antennae.

I love how the rabbit has a special glove for his snail as if it’s a falcon or something. I also love how the dog has a forked tongue (or is it breathing fire? I can’t tell). It’s clearly a dog but it feels so dragon-like at the same time.

He looks like a creature you’d see in a Jim Henson fantasy film imo…his whiskers just add to the cuteness, he’s a little old man.

The trunk and tusks show that this was most likely done by someone who’s never seen an elephant but heard someone describe them. I guess whoever described them didn’t do that great of a job considering how this guy has whiskers, round little years and a body that looks like a rodent. But it gave us a cute creature design so I’m happy with that 🥰🥰🥰

SNAILCATS :D

Chill little blue snailcat loafing and looking very content and relaxed. He looks very polite.

This snailcat looks like a playful little dude ready to go on an adventure. I hope he has fun.

Grouchy little bitty snailcat looking very annoyed. I love how this little dude has antennae. He has the most beautiful shell out of all the snailcats, it kinda reminds me of shrimp.

It just occurred to me, did these predict Gary from Spongebob??? 🤔
