She’s picking him up from kitten school and he’s telling her about his day
Day 6 of Zutara Week (@zutaraweek) 2022: Closeness
i present to you… Katara healing Zuko post-Agni Kai amidst a light drizzle of ash.
find more of my art on instagram and twitter!
So the Jet/Zuko fight scene is great for many reasons but can you imagine, sitting in dunkins donuts, sipping your dunkaccino, and this crazed teenager comes in with these enormous. hooks? and accuses the ALSO teenaged cashier of being a russian sleeper agent and there’s a cop who tries to diffuse the situation but instead of letting things de-escalate the cashier leaps over the counter, steals the cop’s gun, and says “i’ll give you a show” i mean-
#six months after the incident you start going to this new indie coffee shop#and it turns out to be owned by vladimir putins brother
how could you hide this in the tags
Zutara: the blooms...
Doodling them so basically I started to experimenting with lineart and colors.. and just letting it flow...
No because pride and prejudice isn't "I changed myself for you so you would love me back." It's "your blatant rejection and disdain for me made me realize things about myself no one had ever been bold enough to tell me so I sat down and evaluated all my behavior patterns and why they came about and came to the realization myself that I had to work on myself. Also I don't expect you to love me now that I'm a work in progress, so I'm just going to do nice things for you because I don't like seeing you hurt." No wonder P&P fans refuse to settle.
And it is also not "now that you have proven yourself to be less of an asshole I will give you the second chance you deserve." It's "you were rude to me once, so I was very ready to believe the worst about you. But now you're opening up and I realise that, while you definitely have flaws that you need to work on, they are different and less fundamental flaws than what I thought. So I'm going to sit back and reassess on what I actually see and not just what confirms my preexisting bias. And in doing so I realise that at your core you are a very good person."

drew this while waiting for my dad’s schedule to free up so he can watch the show w me
percy’s the most unreliable narrator of our generation
his pov: so then i kinda just made a little storm under my feet it was so awesome and i hit the monster and i felt kinda bad for it but you know. where’s annabeth? i need to see her.
everyone else: wait what the fuck why is he making a hurricane. why does he look like a serial killer? oh shit he’s yelling for annabeth, oh shit he has a knife, SOMEONE GET THE BLONDE
oh so when the reader knows something i don’t it’s “dramatic irony” but when i know something the reader doesn’t suddenly i’m an “unreliable narrator” 🙄
To our new Wise-girl
What the fuck do neurotypicals talk about. I tried telling my mom about a show that I really like and explained the symbolism and she made fun of me for “talking about a tv series for like 20 minutes”. Same with like 4 other people around my age. All of them even told me outloud they wanted to hear me talk but then mocked me for actually being serious. I do not understand
me at a NT person: do you mind if I tell you about x?
Them: sure!
Me: speaks for 5 minutes interrupted
Them: not every thought you have needs to be said :))))
me: oh. *never speaks again until we leave that wretched place*
this isn’t a neurotypical thing y’all. this is an asshole (at best) thing.
you’re being treated poorly by people who don’t care about the interests and thoughts of others and enjoy hurting people’s feelings, belittling their interests, etc. this is not normal at all and i’m really sorry people have done this to you
like again, none of this is true. this is not the norm. i’m gonna try to be gentle here, but the comments on this post are… not good.
1. this might be the most important point: you cannot tell if someone is disabled or mentally ill based on their interests or how they talk or how they present themselves. you cannot assume someone is neurotypical because they like things you don’t. you also should not forget about masking, which people will especially do at places like work.
2. most people have as many interests and as rich of inner lives as you and it’s potentially harmful to assume they don’t. it leads to you dehumanizing and potentially really hurting those around you. “they’re not as smart/insightful/interesting as me” is not a great approach to socialization
3. just because something doesn’t interest you, doesn’t mean it’s objectively uninteresting or meaningless. and no one is all deep conversation all the time. most disabled and mentally ill people i know, myself included, also like talking about our jobs, pets, etc.
4. you are upset by people dismissing your interests while… dismissing people’s interests. a lot of the comments are just dissing people for not being interested in talking about film/tv or for liking things like sports.
5. i’m autistic and i hear that autistic people are “gifted” or “super geniuses” or whatever a lot and it’s dehumanizing. the idea that i have some deeper insight or heightened intelligence because of my disability is not helpful.
6. sometimes conversation is about give and take you will need to listen to and talk about things that don’t interest you much because you value the person you are talking to and they deserve a turn to share
tl;dr: people who dismiss your interests are rude, cruel, and/or doing so unintentionally. call them out or try to distance yourself from them. surround yourself with people who care to listen. at the same time, people who talk about things that don’t interest you are not inherently boring, shallow, or neurotypical. neurodivergent people can and do talk about things like the weather and going shopping.
I’ve met people with adhd and/or autism that will infodump to me and then get annoyed when I do the same thing about my own interests. Anyone can be rude or mean to you. Also, if you want to get better at small talk, the trick is to become interested in other people. I learned this later than most people do, but over time I’ve figured out that getting genuinely interested in other people is a skill you can learn and it does make small talk easier. Because if you treat what’s going on with someone’s pets or what tv show they’re watching as juicy little fun facts that make your brain go brrrrrrr small talk actually does become way less difficult to navigate.
The sheer number of kids who are straight up putting their real names and ages and location in their bios like "Natasha | 14 | Minor | New York, NY!" and occasionally putting their actual school or city in their tags just terrifies me like no stop stop stop remove that right now I cannot emphasize how unsafe that is for you I am begging you for your sake remove thst shit right now
Some general internet/stranger safety rules, please add on:
Dont give people information that could lead to them finding you IRL. If you must for some reason, always use the vaguest, most broad terms possible. You need help with x state's laws, youve been affected by floods in y state/region/general area.
Other examples, dont describe your school uniform, or if theres a uniform. Dont name or describe any places that you frequent. Dont tell people your schedule, when youre out or in your house. Dont post pictures until youve left the location (a few years ago people used one photo and google earth to figure out exactly what room someone was staying in when they mentioned the hotel, figured out the height and placement from a nearby tree. This particular example wasnt malicious.) Dont mention your teachers names or your friends names or anyones names. Dont describe the really distinctive person or place or feature of your neighbourhood. Dont tell people exactly how to trigger you. Dont have private conversations with adults, make sure other people can see whats going on. If someone makes you uncomfortable, block them and dont look back, maybe tell a trusted adult.
It is difficult to not mention any identifying details at all, but you have to be careful because people can find out a huge amount from one detail, and when they start adding up someone may be able to find you. I cannot emphasise enough how dangerous that is. If in doubt, dont share it.
If you want to meet up with someone you met online, tell an adult you know and trust, give them place and time and your phone number and when to expect an update. Ideally bring someone with you, and meet somewhere easily accessible and busy and public in broad daylight, somewhere with security cameras if you can. Dont follow them somewhere more private. Make sure you have your own way home and your own money.
[ID: A digital drawing of Zuko and Katara from Avatar the Last Airbender. In the first image, Zuko and Katara stand back to back in an open field of grass during the day time under clear skies, they’re both posed in water-bending stances. In the second image, the first panel, Zuko looks over his shoulder at Katara as he wears a smirk on his face. In the second panel, similarly Katara is looking over her shoulder, returning Zuko’s smirk with a knowing smile.] ty jeb for helping me with the image description!!
Several minutes later there comes a moment when her and Zuko are in sync—it’s fleeting but Katara catches it with a trained eye and her heart skips a beat. She doesn’t know why but something about it makes her nervous, and seconds later she realizes it’s because of how well they work together. She’s so used to being alone and doing everything herself—being the only waterbender in her tribe, being the only cook, cleaner and caretaker for everyone—that sharing a moment with anyone scares her.
Yet as Zuko slowly but surely begins to match her movements, the thought of sharing moments of peace with someone who accepts her for who she is doesn’t scare her as much anymore.
