most of the time when people ask my love language, I just say “physical touch”, when in reality my love language is observing. sure, it may sound silly, but observing someone is one of the most intimate things you can do. you truly see all of them — the way they talk, how they care for others, the sound of their laughter, how their eyes water when they laugh, how they rub their ear to calm themselves. you see them as they really are, and that’s truly a beautiful thing.

a poem i wrote:

for such a long time i put other people first

i felt that their emotions were more important than my own.

i felt broken,

like i wasn’t enough and i’d never be enough.

i let other people’s emotions consume me

now, i know that it’s okay to put yourself first.

sometimes, it may feel wrong

like a mistake

sure, sometimes it’s scary

but it’s what’s best.

i know i’m still learning,

growing,

changing,

and evolving into the person i want to become

but i refuse to let anyone have that hold over me again.

i’ve learned who i am

and who i am is pretty great

so take the time for yourself every once in a while,

after all,

it’s your life.
