In a way it was nothing like he had expected it to be. For the longest of time he would have disregarded it as being the work of fiction, a far too overused story plot of an uncreative mind, but admittedly, he would have to change his mind about the matter.
Honestly it was no surprise to him that he had now found himself here. He wasn’t particularly what could be called a good person. Some might argue that he wasn’t even a person in the first place. It was only expected for a monster like him to end up in this place. But how? He was invincible -- not a claim caused by overconfidence in his own capabilities. The boy who was in his late teens could in no way be described as a capable fighter, nor was he particularly strong in any sense of the word. But to some people back in life he had been known under one particular desctiption: the immortal half-youmu.
He shouldn’t have died. He couldn’t have died. It simply wasn’t possible. After several attempts from those who saw him as a threat, as well as as his own experiments on the matter, he had drawn this conclusion. He was bound to live an entire life without the fear of death looming around. So how had he ended here?
Honestly that was the least of his concerns right now. This was what he had wanted for the longest of time. To perish from the world. It had been years since he first started thinking that it would be better if he wasn’t there anymore, so in reality he should be happy about how things had turned out. So what was that spiteful irony welling up in his stomach? Akihito let an index finger run over the wrinkles on his frowning forehead.
“ So I can’t even die properly, huh? What’s the point of it all then? ”
@lordbattler
Ayo, it is time for an ad. Like this post for a random starter from this little sinner here.
Future Meganest:
Why doesn’t he live in Superbia instead, huh? This guy would be a better ruler than some emo kid.
Could it be? A fellow admirer in these dark lands? Is he not alone in his admiration for the holy glasses?
Megane island confirmed. His work here has been perfected.
Not So Different | Nicolette & Akihito
⊰♛⊱ —— Throughout her nineteen years of life, she had never felt a pain quite like this before. She’d experienced crushing loss and abandonment and she knew how empty rejection could leave a person. Guilt and betrayal had all been felt and they had all broken her down. The only difference between then and now was how she’d managed to pick herself back up and keep going. There was something, now, in the way that her heart bled out its sorrow that told her she wouldn’t be healing from this one. This debilitating sense of loss hollowing out her very soul was a wound from which blood would always flow. Weeks now had passed and it was still so very fresh. An ugly mutilation displayed for all to see.
⊰♛⊱ —— Everything her empty gaze found reminded her of him in someway. Even things that shouldn’t, somehow her mind would create such pointless connections to what it had lost that it would send her into a mess of tears and desperate pleas all over again. The color white had never cut her so deeply like it did now. Just another stab. Another laceration received so sickeningly precise to her beaten flesh that she’d entertain the idea that perhaps he was the one inflicting them now and not just something her grief had imagined. And maybe the worst of it was that in some twisted way she’d wished it were him doing it. Some tainted part of her soul hoping so desperately to see his face again that she’d give up her very life and allow him to kill her right there. That sensation of cold metal pinching frozen skin—sliding delicately between an aching ribcage—to pierce her beating heart was an invitation she’d gladly extend if only to touch him one last time before the very life faded from her eyes. When had she lost herself so completely? Since when had such a toxic want pulsed so violently in her veins?
⊰♛⊱ —— It was almost fascinating how pain could be felt so differently amongst people. Some felt theirs silently. Quiet tears in private settings where nobody could see them. She used to be much like those people. If only to wear a smile later, she would allow herself to fall apart shielded by locked doors and darkness. Others experienced pain beautifully. A crying face so fragile it could pluck a person’s heartstrings and uncover the desire to protect. It was a sadness that drew love and attention. Nicolette felt pain violently. She experienced sadness in destruction. There were no private moments or frail tears. There was screaming. There was throwing and breaking. There was a waterfall of emotions on her face, eyes like a leaking facet too damaged to be fixed. Anger and misery all wrapped up into one hazardous package. Her despair was chaos and perhaps in its own way, was beautiful too. Beauty and tragedy that only seemed to elicit fear and apprehension from others—gaining attention but never love.
⊰♛⊱ —— All that mayhem raised a wonderful question. Was it possible to demolish too fast? Did one need to pace themselves? In just those few short weeks Nicolette had obliterated everything in their little motel room and was left with nothing to damage but herself. It was the rigorous process of annihilating her own self in order to alleviate the fury coursing through her system. Even then, it wasn’t enough to ease the heartache. Surrounded by the wreckage, she’d come to the conclusion that she could no longer stay in that place. Each room held a memory of him and the pillows and sheets on which he’d slept had long lost his scent from the countless nights she’d wrapped herself in them and cried out for him. Depression did funny things to a person’s head, and whatever hope she’d held for his return was crushed by her woe. So she left. She left and from the then and now, she couldn’t recover any memory of how she’d gotten to where to was currently.
⊰♛⊱ —— In the middle of a forest where the chill of the air and dead branches sliced at her bare arms and legs—snagging the skirt of a dress she’d stolen from a stranger’s laundry hanging in their backyard—and her weakened body could barely withstand the cruel gusts of wind that practically blew her over, she felt herself being pulled deeper towards an unknown place. Following the breezes’ harsh path, Nicolette stumbled her way to a shack that looked painfully abandoned. Just the sight of it was enough to awaken her body to its own exhaustion. How she’d made it this far with with no food or sleep truly was a miracle, but suddenly it was all catching up to her at once and the weight was unbearable. She almost hadn’t made it to the door.
⊰♛⊱ —— The moment a scarred hand had laid itself upon the knob and twisted it, bare feet caught upon the threshold and she plummeted to the floor. It seemed like only seconds since she’d been out, but by the time her eyes had fluttered open and adjusted to the light she was met with an unfamiliar face. Fear spiked quickly from her brain to her chest, heart beating nervously like a deer trapped in headlights. It was then that she registered the warmth spreading through her shoulder. He was touching her. In her hazy state adrenaline kicked in and she was scrambling away and on her feet before anything else could be said. Like a wild animal her eyes shifted from her surroundings to the boy with blonde hair, instincts screaming for her to protect herself. It was a flight or fight situation and though the terror on her face was obvious, she wouldn’t be running. Paranoia was a disease and it’d long eaten at her mind, deluding her much like it had so many years ago on the night her life had fallen apart. There was no ᴇsᴄᴀᴘᴇ.
Even as she was laying there in her collapsed state, it didn't take more than a single glance to know that this person could in no way be considered an 'ordinary person'. She carried a certain natural beauty that was greatly distorted by the toll of nature and what spoke of days of utter negligence. Dirt, wound and grease was turning a beautiful woman into a sight that anyone would pity and scoff at were they to see her in any other situations and the bags under her eyes were telling a tale of countless of sleepless nights. While there could be plenty of things causing the sudden collapse of this girl, exhaustion was most likely the determining factor.
Beside that there was the scars; at a single glance Akihito had noticed them - considering their abundance it was almost impossible not to - and now that he got a closer look it was evident that they bore peculiar notions. Four pale lines ran across the eye as if someone or something had clawed at the fair skin, and the rest of them seemed to be centred around her arms and hands. The placements were all too calculated to have originated from accidents. One conclusion was very logical, and Akihito hoped to everything he held dear that he was wrong about it; simply imagining what kind of life could get a person to do this much damage to themselves was an unbearable thought. But even then he couldn't even begin to think what this girl must have been through.
That was when she began to move. At first slowly, careful movements underneath his palm, but then almost as if hit by a shock she darted away, wide eyes staring intensely at him in sheer terror. Every single warning bell inside of his human consciousness was telling him that this girl was dangerous and that he shouldn't associate any further with her, but there was always that tiny bit of irrationality that he could never shake;
I'm immortal.
Everything will be okay.
It was foolish of him to think that everything could be settled by throwing himself head first into matters, but Akihito had long come to terms with his own foolishness and accepted his flaw as a reminder that he was still human. He was selfish, arrogant in his belief in his own capabilities, and god forbid if he could just stand by idly and watch someone suffer. Maybe it was because she intrigued him. Because he was drawn in by how obviously different from the norm she was.
Ignoring the warning signs as best he could, Akihito crept closer to the girl who most of all looked like a critter facing a wolf. He was usually the one being hunted, how the hell was he supposed to deal with the reverse? Trying his best to flash a smile the half-youmu spoke as calmly as he could as he approached. "I'm not going to do anything to you. I just want to help you. Can you let me do that?" Good, just a bit more...
