tied together
we are tied together by a string
sometimes it expands over countries
as we talk through our tin can telephones
other times we lie underneath a woven blanket
strings intertwined like our fingers
i don't do bad sauce passes

Untitled
A plant sat on a desk It died there Trapped in the shadows With an inattentive owner When further away On a windowsill alone With bright rays It came back to life The owner cared more When it was out of reach ~Megan Lien
Doll Maker- I craft porcelain skin as breakable as a young girl’s heart. Yet, the lifeless gaze of glassy eyes makes even the toughest men squirm in discomfort. I try to build my army to be unthreatening but somehow you still know. There is something unsettling about perfection. Armed with Iridescent teeth that have never bitten into an unpopped kernel of popcorn. Flawless golden spirals untouched by a curling iron. Peach and white dresses falling in lacy tendrils that don’t know mud exists. As you get older they stay the same. Unmoving, seemingly. Waiting for the light of the moon to begin their midnight ballet. I anxiously wait for Christmas when I get to send my army into the fray. Into the arms of little girls who don’t know any better.

paint-
my brain was an organized palette
with separate sections for each color
yellow like the star that i wished on for you
blue like the sea near your home
now that you are gone
all of the colors have mixed
a muddy brown fills all of the compartments
the unfamiliar tone unsettles me
i wish paint were more like light
all the hues mixing together
creating something pure and translucent
instead of this murky puddle that exists
i try to wipe away the remaining sludge
but my fingers begin to melt into the abyss
uneasy currents pull me under
i am drowning in an ocean of acrylics

shattered-
in the car on that cold january night
was when I knew it was over
when you tried to hold my hand
your skin like a strangers
felt colder than the ice lining the streets
tired of the disappointed look in your eyes
every time i pulled away
i jumped completely beyond your reach
shattering on impact
tiny shards of me may be left behind with you
biting into your skin whenever you try to clear them away
i know from trying to put myself back together
i was never afraid of myself until
i fell out of love with you
