Last one for now, but definitely not the least, watercolor flower series #7: Lillies . I loved this series for a lot of reasons...It helped me overcome my fear for watercolors and I can now try painting more challenging subjects. Also, it helped me finish paintings in one sitting(stark contrast from oil paints!). But most importantly, while painting each of these flowers, I realized how detailed even the tiniest flowers are. If only we could take a moment from our busy schedule to observe the elements of nature around us, we'd be so amazed. . Stages of fruits still life💕 . . . . I usually see a painting in three stages: underpainting/color blocking, the intermediate stages and final touches. My favourite stages of a painting includes the initial underpainting/colour blocking as I don't have to put and the final touches, as the painting comes to life. The intermediate stages, however, are the most intimidating and require a lot of patience! . This one's finally done!🎨 This is easily one of the most detailed works I've done so far and I've spent over 50 hours on it😅... I've always wanted to do still life paintings, inspired by the old Dutch masters. Still life paintings give an impression of being simple, but they can end up being pretty daunting. When I chose fruits as my still life object, I thought it'd be simpler compared to my other works. It turned out to be the most challenging artworks I've done till date. From arranging the fruits and the drapes, getting the right balance of warm and cool effects to finally painting the reference, I learnt quite a lot. Since I've been super slow with my paintings lately, I thought I'd go ahead and post a #WIP version of this one. Swipe to see the initial underpainting of sorts.. I've finally started with the grapes, which according to me is the most intimidating part of the painting. And I've realized that painting fruits as still life might be one of the most common objects, but definitely not an easy one😅 I love comparing paintings at different stages as it's so relaxing to the eye🤣... I read somewhere recently that our human eye loves contrast and it can affect our paintings too... So in places where we want our tones to be subtle, we might end up adding more darks or whites just to make the corners look sharper. Just how we love TV sets with higher contrast than the other. But that is usually not the best way to paint🙈.
