Baltimore trip summed up:
I’ve worked in library and archive spaces for over 10 years at this point and I still have to look up which side of a page is “recto” and “verso”.
Every. Time.
back in November, my white working class uncle who has lived his entire life in central PA was making comments about how anyone who wants to visit NYC better do it soon before it gets utterly destroyed and turned into a lawless land the second Mamdani takes office…
Idk man, looks like the city is doing just fine under Mamdani.
Certainly better than the NYC of the 1980s that I’m certain you remember.
okay so if you need more veggies/fruit, protein or fibre (bc most people do NOT eat enough) in your diet but you struggle to do so, hear me out:
look up recipes (especially snack recipes) that are child/toddler/baby-friendly

UPDATE: I happened to have all the ingredients for the spinach muffins on this list and made them today, and folks, they're GOOD. They have a very nice mild flavor and don't actually taste like spinach at all
Cats understand "naughty". In fact I think they're the only animal who understands it. Dogs know "good" and "bad" but not Naughty. Same with theft. Cats know what theft is. They know when they are thieving and you can see it on their faces. Squirrels are thieves but they don't know that. They know "take" and "have" but they don't comprehend what it is to steal. Nor do raccoons or coyotes or any species of rodent. They may participate in theft but they are ignorant of the weight of what they do, the full meaning of it. Cats know what crime is and they do it on purpose.
There are two things that Indians do extremely well: embroidery and BIG FUCKING JEWELRY. Sudha Reddy looks amazing.

My arch nemesis: the people who cut down and bind old textblocks or manuscripts so the content extends into the gutter and/or off of the page.
Y’all, I’m tickled pink.
Very long story short, I helped at an event in collaboration with a faculty member from the history department. I hadn’t met her until I got to the event, we didn’t even interact that much.
But I noticed a book near her things and I was reading the back of it and remarked to someone (I don’t even remember who) that it sounded like something right up my alley, and I pulled out my phone to add it to my to-be-read list.
I get to work this morning and my coworker says “Hey! Dr. History wanted me to give you something. She noticed you seemed really interested in it.”
And it’s the book 😭
i love when museums have near exact replicas of their displayed objects for you to buy. haha 15th century ceramic cup you are in my possession
Went to a museum exhibit once that had this little guy

Loving how crisp the plates are in this printing of The Journey from Chester to London by Thomas Pennant (1782).
Also not mad at the singular hand colored plate of Gorhambury. It’s so cute.
Places you don’t expect to hear Oh Yeah by Yello: the grocery store at 8am.
Every day I get a little closer to saying fuck it and becoming an apprentice in some at risk heritage craft or profession.
"let's have AI-"
I'm gonna go learn the art of hand engraving or thatched roofing. Maybe hand make clogs.
All I could think of was:
On Friday I left some very curled negatives under a weighted board in the hope that they would relax somewhat over the weekend to make digitizing them a bit easier. Both preservation people were out of office so I didn’t want to do anything with humidification just yet.
I took off the weights. All seemed good. I took off the board….the negatives went BOING like springs, one even shot out from under the paper and was stopped from going across my desk by a weight.
I think it’s safe to say this didn’t work.
