Idk if you already answered to this question (if this is the case, im sorry but i didn't it) but how did Gus' dad die?
((//Quick note, this mentions blood and very unpleasant bodily harm so if that makes you uncomfortable, please ignore this post//
I have not answered this question, actually. After I saw the show in 2017, I thought Mr. Gloop died of a heart attack or other health issue that was very sudden. In my mind, he was a very high-stress man and eating a lot of very fatty foods with that mindset was clearly not good for him.
Buuuuutttttt.....
This year, I found a podcast Kathy Fitzgerald did during the show’s run. In her interview, she basically said the backstory is that Mr. Gloop was in a horrible butchering accident where he lost his hand and bled out.
https://www.wamc.org/post/kathy-fitzgerald-sausages-and-yodeling-charlie-and-chocolate-factory-broadway - at around the 13: 00-minute mark
Which is ...... really morbid.
I think is also connected with his stress and personality. He was overworked and tired and just kept going until it was too late. Mrs. Gloop found him and called the paramedics and the neighbor to watch baby Augustus. He didn’t die in the butcher shop, but en route to the hospital and she held him the entire time.
So, I have two kinds of mindsets for what happened that have very different implications for how Mrs. Gloop and Augustus handle this question when it’s brought up. I’ve kind of picked and chose whatever little tidbits of characterization I’ve liked from both West End and Broadway since the Gloops are a very small part of the show, but I’ve always seemed to be more drawn to the WE Gloops. So neither version is really my “yes this is how he died” quite yet because I’ve thought more about if Mr Gloop was alive than if he was dead.))

KISSED A GIRL: “Once. But it was a small Kuss.”
“…
…
…”
“YOU KISSED A GIRL???????????????????????????????????”
“ONCE! And for three seconds. It was just a thing that happened.”
“YOU KISSED A GIRLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.
What’d she…what’d she do?”
“Well. We uh. Both had never kissed anyone. And uh. We both wanted to say we had?”
“I need way more deets than that, Gloop. Open your mouth, like there’s a donut-a-comin’ and spill!
Did she, like, taste all girl-y?”
“She had on a lot of lip balm, so she tasted kind of like this? It was strawberry.”
“Huh. Did she say anything? Like, after?”
“I…. said ‘danke schön.’ She gave me a look and said, ‘bitte.’ It was very awkward.”
“That’s it? What’d she say at school and stuff?”
“She told her friends she had kissed a boy at the festival but did not mention my name. And they were impressed. But she . . . didn’t mention my name. So nobody knows.”
“Did you tell anybody?”
“Nein. You are the first one. Mama doesn’t even know, because I think she would be very upset.”
“Huh? Why?
I woulda told everybody. I woulda livestreamed it.”
“I am not the most liked by my classmates, Wonka tour or not..”
“…something is wrong with your classmates.”
“It is just best to ignore them.”
“You can also try hitting them.”
“That . . . is not good advice, Michael.
… Have you done that?”
“Maybe. But I also haven’t gone to school in a while. And also they deserved it.”
“…. May I asked how this happened?”
“Uh, okay. I lifted my hand to, like, eye level, straightened out my fingers, and whacked at ‘em in a generally downward motion mostly in the upper body region.”
“I did not phrase this well. I mean to say why did you hit someone?”
“‘Cuz. You know. Like I said: deserved it.”
“But what did they do to you to deserve it?”

“This isn’t about my cousins, though. This is about you, Michael. When is your party, exactly?”
“Oh, right. September 1st. Almost mine and Chainsaw Massacre’ses b-day. My mom likes to consolidate.”
“Y-you share a birthday with your lizard?
But yes, I believe we can make it! Flights are not cheap on short notice, but when I mentioned that you were having a party, Mama was very enthusiastic and she agreed. ”
“Duh.
Dope. I’ll tell my mom.”
“Wunderbar! I am excited to see you!
Is there anything we should wear to the ceremony? And is there anything you want for a gift?”
“Uh. I unno. Like. Pants?
The traditional present is gift cards.”
“Pants are good, yes. Although my mother will wear a dress.
As for gift cards, I can do this! But you will also be probably be receiving something knitted by my mother. How cold is it, where you are from?
“Approved. Moms in pants is just too weird.
Uh. It gets super cold but I don’t go outside? But I’m always kinda cold, so…?”
“Well, she had already been on the internet looking for a pattern to make you a sweater! Although, she is also looking to make a tiny round hat for you because it is apparently something you must wear during this ceremony?”
“Now I. Have concerns.”
“I can tell her to not make the hat. She just gets over excited when she had someone new to knit for. At this rate, I would expect a box full.”
“I mean…she could do a regular hat, if she wanted. Also feet stuff.”
“You should be more specific here. Because if you are not careful, you will end up with legwarmers as well as socks.”

He’s All That
It is a truly impressive amount of sweaters. But Mike owns nearly as many hoodies, and snapbacks, and he would own as many pairs of sneakers if sneakers weren’t so expensive. He rolls his eyes anyway.
“No duh, but that’s not the point,” he insists. “I’m asking: do you want there to be that many sweaters? ‘Cause: you tell me you want sweaters, you will be sweatered. But do you, Gloop?”
Mike fixes him with an intense gaze, one dark eyebrow raised almost as high as his bangs.
“If you could wear anything, what would it be?”
Mike is hoping the learning curve will not be insurmountably steep.
Augustus’ hands play with the evenly knit stitches of the too-small sweater vest. He remembered his mother knitting this sweater when he was nine, all the hanks of bright red wool in the basket at her feet, the concentrated looking on her face as she worked on the complex patterns of zig-zag purl stitches. He had worn it all through that winter on top of turtlenecks and it had been cozy. It had been nice.
He looks to each of the stacks upon stacks of neatly folded sweaters, each one of them had a similar story. His mother had made them all because they didn’t make sweaters for boys his size anyway. Beside, handknit was better, right? It was supposed to keep you warmer.
He had been given new sweaters every year. It was just what he wore.
But Michael was making him start to question if he really wants to wear them, or if he’s wearing them because his mother made them. He, quite honestly, hadn’t thought too deeply about what he was wearing; For the longest time, his mother just presented him with clothes and he wore them.
It wasn’t like he had a lot of options.
He had been through the aisles of das Kaufhaus as Mama tutted and frowned at rack after rack of what would be too-small pants and snug shirts of the Boys section, saving him the humiliation of standing in the dressing room, thighs enclosed like sausages, button barely able to close, stomach spilling over the rim. Instead, she headed down the escalated and out the door to the crafting stores, selecting thick wooly fabric for shirts and plenty of elastic for the waist. His long pants, though limited, were readjusted from men’s selections, though his shirts needed alterations.
“I... do not know,” he tells the computer Mike after a slight pause. He had been so preoccupied with what fits, he didn't think about with what he wants.

♫ - singing voice
((Oh god does this boy love to sing.
So a lot of musical meta suggest that the characters actually sound like their actors when they sing in a non-musical contexts. Which of course @itsteaveetime tossed aside because while Wartella is talented, Teavee is probably obnoxious.
I think Gus is a good singer but his singing isn’t as exaggerated as F’s is. He’d definitely still be Tenor 2 and post puberty either like Bass 2 or Tenor 1. It’s still a higher register than say what his father sounded like, but it’s not squeaky.
I like to think the Gloops are pretty musical for some reason. His grandmother taught piano and Mrs Gloop used to sing with the group that’s shown in “More of Him to Love” although not that youthful iteration. Gus knows tuba and a touch of the cello but hates the cello.
And yes. They actually know how to yodel. It’s somewhat of a rarity in their town but they know a lot of folk songs.))
((Hey, people who recorded the OBC. Why did we not get the entr’acte?? That smooth jazzy ‘Candy Man’, the full polka ‘More of Him to Love’??? I NEED THEM!!!!)
✿ - laugh
(( Oh boy. Augustus' laugh was rated Most Obnoxious by many people. And he does it so often. So while he may be the German equivalent of Jan from 'Friends', his sense of humor is important. Life is messy and hard and sometimes really painful. There's a lot of underlying grief still over his father's passing, so being optimistic about things is how he and his mother genuinely cope. It's so much better to look at the little things with joy and amusement than tread on the hurt and disappointment of everything else.))
