This was a dream I had last night.
The sky is painted in shades of gold, orange, and pink, while the air carries the scent of the oceanโsea salt and cool evening wind. Waves roll gently onto the shore, calm enough to sound almost like a lullaby.
There is a woman sitting quietly in the shallow sea. Only the lower half of her bare body is submerged, her skin catching the last warm rays of the day. Her long hair glows softly beneath the fading sunlight. In front of her, lying face down in the water, is another woman, entirely unclothed and open to the elements. She is completely still, her pale body resting beneath the gentle rhythm of the tide.
The woman sitting beside her reaches out and slowly runs her fingers through the other's hair.
"Remember," she whispers. "Remember all the good times we had together. Remember."
Suddenly, they're sitting together on the porch of a small, cozy house. Rain taps softly against the roof while the sky is gray. They sit in wooden chairs side by side, their fingers intertwined, saying nothing. They don't need to. They're simply happy to be together.
The memory changes again.
This time, they've had a small argument. One woman walks away through the rain. The other hesitates for only a moment before running after her. She catches up, wraps her arms around her, and they kiss beneath the pouring rain, holding each other tightly as if neither of them wants to let go.
They're walking through a store, hand in hand. The people around them stare with cold, judgmental eyes. One of the women looks frightened for a moment, but instead of letting go, she squeezes her partner's hand even tighter. Together, they choose courage over fear. They continue walking, ignoring the stares because being together matters more than the opinions surrounding them.
The woman is still sitting beside the one lying motionless in the water. Her hand gently strokes the long gray hair spread across the surface.
"Please..." she says, her voice breaking.
"Please come back to me."
Tears stream down her face.
"Please... don't go. Please come back."
The tide continues to move around them.
Then, slowly, something changes.
The body lying in the water begins to transform. The wrinkled skin becomes smooth again. The gray hair regains its rich color. Age melts away as though time itself is flowing backward with the sea.
The woman opens her eyes.
Without saying a single word, she rises from the water and sits beside the woman who never stopped calling for her.
She gently rests her head against her shoulder.
The sky has changed. The warm colors of sunset have faded into soft shades of blue and pink, almost giving way to midnight.
There are no explanations.
They simply hold each other, entirely naked in the quiet ocean, stripped of the clothes, the judgments, and the armor of the world. They sit pure and exposed as the waves move gently around them and the last light of day disappears.
I don't know who they were.
But somehow, it felt like I had witnessed a lifetime of love.
For some reason I don't know why but when I woke up from this dream it made me feel sad and made me feel a hollow feeling inside myself and it made me want to cry.
