Zeke nods as she speaks, “I’m sure they are, I don’t know if I will either,” he agrees as he turns towards her, “I’m not very, like, competitive, but I do like to sing. I know a few really lovely hymns, but is that too much for most people? I’m only just getting into pop music lately,” he notes.

Kenina gave him an encouraging smile. “I don’t know, I think a hymn is a bit better than some pop song that has little or no meaning.” Kenina wasn’t religious, but she had always loved to hear the local church’s choir sing when she was a child. There was something about listening to people sing about something they believed in.

Zeke shrugs at his initial comment, his faint smile fading slightly as he listens to the other. “No, a quiet home is always pretty tough, at least for me. I grew up with five siblings and all kinds of beasts and what not, so,” he laughs,”I think I’d struggle if my place was too quiet. I mean, it’s still pretty quiet, but,” he nods, biting his lower lip, his gaze following the other man’s as he speaks. Zeke miles faintly, “That’s so fucking cute. Oh my god,” he groans, his hand on his chest, “A pug named Huffins?” he asks, grinning broadly as he shakes his head, “I love him already. I called the phoenix Anastasius, because, like,” he chuckles, “They’re very dignified, right? I remember, I was pouring over books for weeks trying to come up with something good enough to call him.”

“Now I feel bad for picking the first thing that popped into my head,” he said with a teasing laugh. “My roommate has an Augurey. It’s really quite pretty, but rather noisy,” he said with a soft smile. He spoke about Sylas as if he was still there; as if he’d be waiting for him at home. “Did it take you a long time to get Anastasius to like you?” he asked. Sylas’ Augurey, Rhys, was starting to act as if he disliked Zandr. Those close to him said it was just because he missed Sylas, but he started to feel a bit self-conscious about it.

“ Indeed, and unfortunately for me, not a stuffed one.”  As silly as the idea of a grown woman walking around with a stuffed dragon sounded, it was sure to stir up less chaos around the carnival if she had lost one as opposed to the real deal. “ A young one, yeah, I might not be the smartest…but I don’t think my professor would allow me to take out a full grown one…” Thora chuckled as the conversation played through her mind. “ It’s a little larger than the size of a small-ish dog.” 

He smiled in relief, “I was worried I was too lost in my own thoughts.” Many had commented that he seemed to be out of it these past few days, though none really blamed him. Hearing the phrase smallish dog caused his smile to grow larger as his pug popped into his mind. “oh! Sorry, I’m not happy that you lost your dragon. I was just, uh, thinking about my pug. I can help you look or it though. What do they like to eat? I know my pets always seem to find me when I have their favorite treat.”

Zeke nods, a hint of a smile on his lips, “That’s almost such a good lie that I believed it,” he says, shaking his head, “Almost,” he adds, “Have you had a bit of firewhiskey, or are you just not a sharp shooter?”

Zandr wasn’t sure if he was starting to feel better or if it was just because he was trying to live more and think less. “What? No,” he grinned. “Ok, I may have had a drink or two, but I swear I lost because of the lights and not because…well I’ve had a drink.” He hadn’t been drinking a lot, just one drink before attending the carnival.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show was one of Cressida’s all-time favorite movies, and she came to the showing prepared– she was fully costumed (Janet Weiss, not her favorite character, but the easiest to dress up as), brought along the proper audience participation items, and had the Time Warp perfected. How could she not? She’d been practicing since she was nine and saw the movie for the first time. Yes, she was way too young for it, but it’s not like she had parents who cared. The witch stood in line to get tickets, excitedly showing off some of her dance moves just for something to do. “I hope I’m the not only person who’s hyped for this,” she said to the person next to her. “RHPS is an experience that should cross over into both the no-maj and wizarding world.”

“Oh of course! This is my favorite part of Halloween in New York!” She beamed. Emmalee had followed her older sibling to New York to start up their business. “I know that a lot of nomajs think that we love Halloween, but I gotta say, I REALLY do.” Her voice was filled with love and excitement. “I love the way everyone really comes together.” Emmalee had a warm personality. “Don’t tell anyone,” she said in a hushed voice, “But the nomajs have A LOT of good stuff!” She grew up in a household that embraced the nomaj world as much as the magical world. Unfortunately, things were extremely strict. She had heard that the theater that was showing RHPS was almost shut down because of the nomaj/wix separation. “I’m over the moon that they decided not to cancel it!”

“What do you think?” he said putting on a goofy hat. “I think that I look very fit right now.” He did a few poses with equally as goofy faces. He was feeling happier, mainly due to knowing that he still had someone who genuinely cared.

“You see there was this light that was in my eyes, and I couldn’t quite see where I was aiming. It’s not my fault that I accidentally squirted them with water,” he said to Zeke a little embarrassed. He, admittedly, was trying to show off and ended up losing the game he swore was child’s play.

though karaoke had never quite piqued zhenya’s interest, she enjoyed watching others give it a go, making her cave easily when asked to join a group of trainees at taqueria mucho for a fun night out. she was good at what she did, and hardly went out on a work night, so breaking the rules once in a while only seemed healthy at her age. sipping on a glass of iced water with a lemon slice and mint leaves settled against the bottom to give the impression she had liquor, the female sat with her back pressed against the bar, enjoying watching some of her co-workers make a fool of themselves. 

“ i somehow don’t think there’s enough money in the world to convince me to get that crazy, not with the way everything ends up permanently on that web thing these days, that’s how you lose a job before you even start…” she started rambling off with an amused smile to no one in particular, the atmosphere of the place much too loud for anyone to overhear, so she hoped.

He had a big plate of tacos and was trying to quiet his thoughts of Sylas before he went on to perform himself. “Oh, I think it might be ok as long as you don’t do anything offensive. I see a few top people sprinkled around the crowd,” he said. He took a big bite of his taco, and once he finished he said, “It’s fun to let loose sometimes right? Not that I would know, I’m a pretty dull guy myself. Well, usually. I’m trying this thing where I try and be a bit more...impulsive. Which is good on paper, hard in theory,” he laughed. “One more please,” he said holding up his drink. Zandr was probably the most clean-cut guy a person could meet, but he was lost. “What are you drinking?” he asked pointing to her drink.

TAQUERIA MUCH KARAOKE + LIPSYNC EVENT

Zandr had always wanted to take part in the competition but had never had the courage to do so. It wasn’t that he had stage fright, it was was the fear of failing. It was his roommate Sylas who had encouraged him to do sign up this year. He had been practicing for months, and with the help of Linden ( @lindenslinens ) created a costume to go with the performance. He was almost not going to continue with the performance, but he decided that Sylas would have wanted him to. 

When the day came for the competition he found himself surprisingly calm. He watched people sing and was blown away by the karaoke performers this year. When it was his turn he changed into his outfit and took the stage. “Before I start, I just want to say that this performance is dedicated to my friend. He, he was the one who convinced me to try out this year. I also want to say thank you to Linden for helping with my costume.” With that, he got ready and began to dance his routine. When he was finished he bowed and left the stage. He was ecstatic and despondent at the same time. He didn’t stay to see who had won. Instead, he changed back into his clothes and left. He sat at the center of Blackhallow and got lost in the noises around him.

❝ I’m almost 99.9% certain that my dragonology professor is going to rip me a new one if he finds out….I can’t believe I managed to be so stupid, ❞ Thora blurted out, a slight whine to her voice as the worrying doubled by the second.  ❝ You haven’t by any chance seen a dragon flying around, have you? … Asking for a friend…  ❞

“A dragon?” He said thinking. You would think that something like a dragon would be memorable, but he was distracted as of late. “I don’t believe I’ve seen one flying around...is it large?” He asked. He was hoping that she would say it was still a baby or something. That way he wouldn’t be too embarrassed about not seeing it.

          Zandr had a lot to hide, so out of the two, the truth was the most dangerous. “That must be nice,” he said with a smile. “I have to hide things. I wish I didn’t, but it goes with the job. It’s fun, to tell the truth, every now an again.” He didn’t lie, but he wasn’t 100 percent open with who he was or what he did. “Oh yes, Freddie right?” He said moving to a lighter topic. “I’m a bit more of a dog person, but it was a very cute cat. I have a pug myself.” Sylas popped into his head and he took another long drink. “Do you have any pets?” he asked.

Zeke bites his lip and nods as he listens, “No, I get that. I’m pretty lucky to not be in that position. Never was much of a liar,” he says with a grin as he leans forward, “Yeah! That’s her name. She’s cute, I love all animals,” he says with a soft laugh, “Okay, maybe not…all of them. But most of them,” he says with a small gesture. At the question, he raises both brows, “Well, I live with a phoenix,  I don’t think he’d like me to call him my pet. He just took a liking to me, and let me be in his life, you know?” Zeke suggests with a bemused tone, “But, you know, I feed him and love him, that sort of thing. What’s your puggo’s name?”

There was an air about Zeke that Zandr liked. A kindness that helped put him at ease. He was tempted to let the sadness out. Maybe he could help Zan be happier. He decided against it, it wasn’t Zeke’s fault that he was feeling sad, and he didn’t want to burden anyone with these feelings. So he kept things light. “That’s a very good quality to have,” he said. “My roommates and I used to have a lot of pets. Well, I’ve adopted Sylas’ pets, and Riley took hers with her. But Marley has a cute dog, so the apartment will not be quiet. I don’t think I could do a quiet home,” he said. He didn’t mean for the information to slip out, but it did. Zandr was getting sloppy. “But back to my dear o’dog, his name is Huffins and my red screech owl is Puffins.” The Hufflepuff didn’t mean to name his pets similar to his house name, but somehow they had been named after Hufflepuff.

          He sat near the left of the taqueria with his jaw hanging open. He had seen a lot of people go up and just focus on having fun. However, this person was going all out. Not only were their vocals amazing, but they had a spark. “They should be a professional singer,” he said after a bit of his taco.

“No kidding,” Peach agreed. The witch had come to Taqueria Mucho solely for the karaoke contest– It wasn’t that she didn’t like the food, just that the spicy stuff didn’t tend to agree with her stomach. “I’m totally voting for them. And if they win –which they should– I’m forcing EJ to have them on the show.”

“That would be amazing! Kind of giving back, I know EJ’s band got exposure because of the radio show right? It would so cool if they became famous because of being on the radio show, and well because they have talent.” He laughed. “You all could start to brand yourselves as finding diamonds in the rough or something!”
