             𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐀 𝐑𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐎𝐂𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 in which hyeona had found herself without any plans on a saturday  .  she had spent her afternoon roaming the streets  ,  looking around in high end stores in which she had found a sense of belonging despite being unable to afford any inside the stores without help from any of her suitors  .  it was depressing really  ,  being destined for more than you were given  –  living a lifestyle she couldn’t afford  ,  not even one bit  .  it had dawned on her as she was eating her sandwich  ,  a cheap store-bought panini that was just the right amount of decent to awake her from the daydream she had been living in all day  .  it was enough to make her want to go back to her apartment and sulk until someone would finally have time to give her attention  –  luckily for her that would be sooner than anticipated  .  ‘  it has been quite odd  ,  has it not  ?  ’  the brunette smiled  ,  hand softly raking through her locks as she gave the other one of her signature smiles  before reaching out to accept the flowers offered to her  .  ‘  oh honey  ,  you’re the cutest  .  but i think the flowers suit you better  .  ’  hyeona replied  , picking a single flower and putting it behind the other’s ear  .  ‘  there  ,  all perfect  .  ’

“yes, i considered wearing long sleeves with shorts today. doesn’t seem to know if it wants to be warm or cool out.” melanie tried hard not to stare. the last thing she wanted was to come off as rude. she couldn’t figure out why she was so mesmerized by this girl, but she quickly looked away after realizing she’d been stuck, looking at her for a moment too long, attempting her answer her own question. a warm, tingling sensation spread across face, causing her cheeks to turn a light shade of pink. “oh, i-i guess, maybe it does.” she replied with a soft laugh. “thank you.” melanie held the remaining flowers close to her chest and extended her other hand to properly introduce herself. “i’m melanie or mel. honestly, i’d answer to anything you wanted to call me.” she stated then let out a barely audible groan at how awkward she was being. she was so much better at flirting when she was intoxicated. “i meant it’s nice to meet you.”

once melanie had wrapped up her day at work she almost always headed to the cafe at her apartment building before going up to her apartment to start unwinding for a little bit. she’d just settled on her couch, snuggled underneath her favorite blanket to do a little writing in her journal when her phone went off. she smiled at the name that popped up, always excited to hear from danielle since she almost always knew it was her friend attempting to get her out of her apartment. “hi, sweetie. i’m home. just on the couch writing. are you finished working?” she asked as she closed the journal and placed it beside her. “wait. wait. a girl’s night like what? are we going to a club or bar? or is it like a girl’s night in? i need to know if i should started getting dressed. i’m so disgusting right now.” melanie got up and headed towards her bedroom, turning on the light once she was inside to look through her closet. “are we dressing up or down?”

late. naomi had never been late but she was this time. pulling out an all nighter to finish a story that was due tomorrow was definitely not for her. she was always prepared and either on time or way too early to finish a story for the news’ headline.  she wasn’t sure why she failed to finish it though, probably because she got caught up by the holidays that she paid zero attention to it at all. another thing she needs to work on. as if the delay was not enough, she actually slept through her alarm. she was that tired, huh? oh, what was it called? the domino effect. pulling an all nighter, sleeping late, slept through her alarm and now she was late for her appointment with melanie, but that didn’t stop the excitement from filling her body, the familiar smile on her face and before she knew it, she was at the cafe, scanning the sea of people crowding the place. “woah, this place is packed today.” seeing her friend sitting a table near the window, naomi quickly rushed to her friend before hugging her from behind. “and i’m here!” she laughed before taking the seat across the other. “i’m so sorry, i had to work all night and slept through my alarm. i hope you didn’t wait for a long time but i’m here and… tell me…” she paused before taking a deep breath. all that running only made her realize that she was indeed out of shape and had to start working out. “what did you think of the story, hm? was it good? did you enjoy it? i’m still halfway through the book you told me about and so far, i’m loving it. A LOT.”

melanie tensed up a bit before relaxing into naomi’s embrace once she’d heard her voice. she turned around to face her friend, wrapping her arms around her and holding her close. “no, no. it’s okay. please, don’t apologize. shit happens.” she answered with a soft laugh. “i just grabbed myself a coffee and scone and decided to check emails and such while i waited. you know i’ll always find a way to keep myself busy. even when i’m supposed to be relaxing.” melanie nodded at naomi’s question before placing her hand against the book she’d suggested she read. “i enjoyed it a lot. i thought i wouldn’t since it was something i’ve seen before, but always looked over it. i kind of regret doing that now. i’m thinking of going back to it eventually, that’s how amazing it was.” melanie hummed when naomi said she half way through hers and picked her cup up to take the last few sips of her latte. “i’m so glad! i was really worried you wouldn’t. it’s one of my top favorites, i think.” she added. “coffee is on me today if you’d like anything? i could go for a second cup myself.”
