This past summer i went through a dramatic change. When i was young i used to be very close to my father. we would hang out, read, go to stores and have a normal father daughter relationship. The past few years though, something changed. We both became more distant, and he became uninvolved in my life. He continued to show no interest in my life, and be completly isolated from the rest of the family. The worst part is that he didn't even realize that he was doing anything wrong.
My mother and father have always had their issues; not bothering to speak to eachother, and barely muttering two words to eachother every day for several years. I never thought, however, that it would get bad enough to the point where i wouldn't talk to my dad for weeks, eventhough he lived in my same house.
Things continued to get worse as the summer progressed, and as i grew further and further apart from my father, my father continued to believe that nothing was wrong with our relationship. My dad and i butted head several times throughout the summer, either we were didn't talk at all, or we were arguing and yelling at eachother. I was done having a normal relationsihp with him, it just wasn't possible anymore.
I was not sad when my dad moved out of the house this summer. I was not regretfull of not having a relationship with him either. having a relationship with my father was impossible since he showed no interest in having one with me. when my dad left, the house felt lighter and easier to breathe.
it's hard to say if my father and i will ever be normal again. After almost a year of him being gone, and my weekly mass text that my sisters and i recieve from him, i dont care to have a relationship with him either. My father is not an abusive or bad man, he is just one who doesnt know how to develop keep relationships with others. Through the absence of my father i have learned how i want to treat others and the type of people that i want to surround myself with.
