im thinking about a robot or ai or some other sort of sentient machine thats old and clunky or maybe just has a small ram or weak cpu that takes like thirty seconds to ten minutes to respond in conversations. and their partner who sits and talks with them anyway and just waits patiently because they love them

consider youve been sitting down regularly to talk to this ai on the computer for a number of months and theyre extremely smart which comes with the side effect of a lot of computation time. so in between the things you say and they say you just wait patiently and you never interrupt.

but then consider lately theyre taking upwards of a few minutes to respond to anything even little things which has got you a LITTLE worried but you dont really mind it anyway. and then one day youve been talking for a few hours and you make some little offhand comment and the computer is quiet for a bit. and then like a little longer. and once like fifteen minutes have passed youre about to interrupt but then they get out "i love you"

and you. i mean you barely have to think and you say i love you back because you love them. and then it barely takes them five seconds to respond after that. now its extremely fucking easy for them to say they love you cause they love you
