I love Dr Tezla's character so dearly (hopefully that's been picked up by now fjdklsfjdsklfjs), so I just wanted to put into words some of my thoughts about him
Rambles below !!
At first, all he wanted was to simply get The Wheel of Power. It was unlimited clean energy he says, showing his heart was in the right place, that it was good. He wasn't wanting to use it for himself, he was wanting to help humanity. And this is backed up by the fact that the very first thing he does is connect it to the US power grid. He only began studying it after he accomplished his first goal. And after it ended up hurting(killing?) his best friend? He was willing to give it all up. He's immediately conscious of the danger The Wheel poses in the wrong hands and readily agrees to put it back once the opportunity presents itself.
But of course, Dr. Tezla is a scientist. And scientists are curious by nature. Even with his brief time with The Wheel, he could see that there was so much to learn from it. An entire world locked behind those inscriptions and energy readings. It told him of the existence of the Accelerons, of greater power to be achieved, of realms beyond our own, of a great reward waiting just at the end. He needed to see it. He needed to uncover The Wheel's secrets with his own hands.
He threw himself into researching The Wheel, no longer on a quest for humanity, he was only interested in sating his thirst for information.
Digging as deep as he could with only the scans of The Wheel as reference, he eventually discovered how to open the gateway to the racing realms beyong HW35, and with them, an entirely new fount of knowledge. But he wasn't the only one exploring the realms. To his surprise, the Drones were there too. There before him.
Why?
He began digging again, this time with a renewed purpose. What were they doing here? Another scheme? They have The Wheel now, what else were they after?
More information. That's what he needed. They were after something. Something important. Something powerful. More powerful than The Wheel? They were finding something at the end of the realms. What was it? He needed to complete the realms before the drones could. He needed to know what they're looking for. He needed to understand. Once again, he called up some of the racers from the World Race. The ones he was sure he could trust.
The ones he knew wouldn't question him.
He outfitted their cars. He gave them all the Nitrox 2 they could need. He installed radios for sharing information. He fitted their cars with onboard cameras. He told them they needed to stop the drones.
They failed.
They all failed and he was still no closer to finding out what the drones were up to. What are they after? What are they searching for?
He didn't know he didn't know he DIDN'T KNOW! If only he had more information. He needed eyes in the realms. The people he sent failed. They needed to be better! They needed to be the best! The best in the world... Yes of course. He knew they would question him, but at this point they were his best bet.
At last he sent Gig to fetch the rest of his World Race leaders. Surely, out of everyone, they had the skills to beat the drones. He just had to play this carefully...
Sorry, that kind of devolved into fic territory, but do you see what I'm getting at? He's a man so driven by his own obsession that he starts losing sight of what he set out to accomplish in the first place. He's not bad, he's not evil. He's just someone that gets consumed in what he's doing. And personally, I can't fault him for that in the slightest.
Gelorum is an interesting character because she has always ever wanted one thing. To beat the accelerons in a race (and destroy them supposedly).
She thinks herself above them, and yet she's still forced to play by their rules. Forced to wait for humans to get the Wheel of Power. Forced to race against humans in the realms in order to even get the chance to meet them. Her own creators!
She thinks herself so above the accelerons and yet she has to play their game, just the same as any other "lesser" lifeform.
To be forced to play in a game not even designed for her kind.
Imagine her, a creature built for the sole purpose of racing, watching these primitive monkeys fumble their way through the realms-sometimes not even making it to the end- and yet these are the creatures the accelerons favored over her? When she was so much better in every conceivable aspect? Faster, stronger, smarter. She possessed the cumulative knowledge of the entire drone race. She would show them. She needed to show those humans how below her they were. She would show them how far they had yet to go by turning one of their own against them.
And she did. She snatched one away right from their hands and turned him into something so much greater. And now he understands just what makes the drones so superior. So beyond.
But then. Just when she had it all. Just when she proved her position over humans and had an acceleron right in front of her. Just when she was about to realize her goal, they turned her away. Again. She was rejected by her creators. Again. Cast aside while the humans were favored once more. Even after she did everything right. Even after she collected so many of the accelechargers and made it to the end first they still- They still chose those bumbling incompetent meat sacs. What did she miss? She did everything right. SHE DID EVERYTHING RIGHT. She was created to WIN. AND SHE WON. So why? Why do they cast her aside? Just hand everything she worked for over to those inferior humans!
Branching off of this, but a short ramble about the Accelerons
And know this has me thinking, what' about the's the deal with the Accelerons? At first glance they seem to be this ultra powerful, almost god-like race, sorta? They're talked about so reverently by Dr. Tezla and Gelorum that you get the sense that they're this greater lifeform. But looking at the series, and more specifically the Drones, the Wheel of Power, and the Racing Realms, it seems that they're kind of just, I don't know, playing around?
To me at least, it doesn't really seem like they have the same set of morals you'd expect from a human. They care about racing, about speed, they got bored racing each other, and so they built the Drones. They made an entire race of sentient robots for the soul purpose of racing them, and when they "didn't race right", they straight up banished them! The Drones were only doing what you specifically programmed them to do, and then you abandoned them in an unfamiliar world with no way to get back? That seems incredibly heartless.
So that begs the question, what do they want from the humans? Did the Accelerons leave the realms solely for them, or are there multiple Wheels of Power and multiple sets of racing realms for different races, the drones just happening to get sent to the human one? It seems strange that such a powerful race would take such a strong interest in weak little humans. Especially since the vast majority of them don't even engage in racing. Was it simply humanity's potential? And when exactly did the Accelerons decide to leave the Wheel of Power for them? And how did Dr Tezla learn of it in the first place?
I don't have the speed drawing video process, I forgot to turn on the timelapse option on CSP, but I can assure you that this drawing took me days to complete.
