The Devil's Plan, Review (Netflix, 2023)

I was curious of this show upon reading tweets about it. I'm only familiar with Ha Seok-jin as I've watched him in kdramas (and a few variety shows where he guested in).

I actually didn't expect that the games would be so well-crafted, and how it shows some of the human survival insticts in such shows. I do wish that some of the earlier main matches were individual games before it proceeds to somehow an alliance/team game by the end. I was kind of bummed that potential ace players were eliminated due to some bad lucks 🤧 and individual matches can really show each of the players possible strengths.

Overall, I enjoyed the shows as there are really mindblowing twists in it. It was kind of reminiscent of Liar Game (which I enjoyed before!!). Really looking forward if there would be news of a second season. Hoping for a much more intense strategies, alliances, and a lil bit of drama.

Congrats to Ha Seokjin!!! It was honestly well deserved after seeing how he played the game, fairly and logically. (And i dont know if it's because I was slightly bias for knowing him prior to the show, but I really did root for him hahaha)

Salute also to ORBIT, for also giving his best to all games, especially for stepping forward. His strategy may not have worked well but yea. His poker play was truly great!

To other casts also! I was on team Seokjin-Seewon-Dongjae-Guillaume who somehow ended up like an underdog team in the show.

I read a tweet about being in the minority in regards to Lee Seewon and Ha Seokjin's alliance in The Devil's Plan and for some reason that got me intrigued with the show. It felt like I wanna see for myself if I'll also have the same opinion by the end of the show.

I therefore conclude that I like how Seokjin played the game: strategically and logically.

Arthdal Chronicles Season 1 (2019) Review

As I watched and eventually finished this season, the only thought that came to my mind was, "This was so epic! Why did I not watched this during its run?" But well 2 reasons: 1) most certainly not in the mood for this genre, 2) perhaps my prejudice also played at that time because of the news surrounding the personal lives of the main actors in the drama.

The world building of this drama was commendable. From Iark to Arth, the people that populates each places, and the beliefs and prophecies. It was epic. Kudos to the team behind this epic drama!

Tagon and Taealha make a very compelling pair. I can't fully categorize them as villain as both were just flawed people who happens to have a deeper reason of why they became the person they are now. They tried to be better but the world isn't ready (or more like scared) on what they could offer.

Eunseom and Tanya was rather idealistic compared to them but I still commend them for being able to adapt to the realities they faced outside Iark. It was heartbreaking to witness how each of the teachings they grew up learning were being squashed as they faced suffering in Arth.

Lastly, Saya. I do get where his actions are coming from. But for some reason, I can't connect with him that much. Song Joong Ki's portrayal of the twins was commendable tho. He was able to portray two contrasting characters.

Like I said earlier, this season was enjoyable for the epicness it has offered. Some plot arcs could've been given more focus and some could have been shorten to be able to utilize the 18 episode run. Overall, it was off to a start. :)

PS. I'm just sad with some character changes in the next season but looking forward to its sequel

Let me just gather my thoughts on how wild the ride was for Arthdal Chronicals (Season 1).

My Happy Marriage (2023, Netflix)

Throughout the series, all I wanted is for Miyo to overcome her year long trauma she got from her family (that never treat her as part of the family 🥺). It's not easy, but I'm proud of her overcoming it and prioritizing herself in the end. That's why the final episode was such 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻.

The colors in this anime was so vibrant and my eyes kept being blessed to see such art. We watched this with the English Dub, while I'm not a fan of Miyo's dubbed but I do like the tonal change by the end indicating Miyo's control of her life and not of the past dragging her.

Overall, it was a nice watch. There may have some changes from the manga which is understandable and doesn't drive the story away much from the original. Although, I do prefer that Manga Kiyoka has more personality (esp those interactions he have with Godo) but Anime Kiyoka is still good hehe.

Looking forward to season 2!
