I think what kills me about Jiang Cheng antis is that a lot of their talking points reek of anti survivor rhetoric. As someone who is a survivor and has done a lot of advocacy for victims and survivors of power based personal violence, I want to be the first to inform you that the narrative of the âpretty survivorâ (which is steeped in cishet normative, white supremacist, and ableist ideas) is an extremely rare case. Trauma survivors are rarely pretty. The Wei Wuxianâs of the world are incredibly uncommon.Â
Traumaâespecially intense, horrific trauma like what Jiang Cheng went throughâoften leads to intense issues of anger and hatred. It makes you deeply emotional and can often lead to you becoming unstable. Jiang Cheng lost his entire family and community in the span of a few years. He didnât have access to therapy (something that literally anyone would need to heal from that), he had to rebuild his entire sect, likely had to fight an uphill battle in order to be a significant part of Jin Lingâs life, all while cleaning up the mess that Wei Wuxian left behind.
This is not to hate on Wei Wuxian, heâs my third favorite character (after Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji) and I love him deeply, but he left behind a legacy that Jiang Cheng had to clean up. Whether or not he realized this would happen, Wei Wuxian created a cultivation path (gui dao/ghost cultivation) that is extremely dangerous and horrific. While I still donât know if I believe that Jiang Cheng killed every demonic cultivator he came across, I donât know that it was necessarily a bad thing that he did kill them. Weâve talked a lot in the cxc server about gui dao and demonic cultivation and just how much it harms the mind and body. Wei Wuxian is the exception to the rule in having such control over it and even he eventually succumbed to it. If demonic cultivators are causing great harm, then a cultivators job is to stop that harm and the source of it. That may mean killing the demonic cultivator. I think people get mixed up when (I think it was Jingyi) said that Jiang Cheng kills the wrong person. I believe it was @twilightarc-gm who said that âwrongâ doesnât imply innocent but rather the fact that the person isnât Wei Wuxian. We know that Jiang Cheng spent thirteen years trying to find Wei Wuxian and when he does find him, he doesnât kill him despite having literally every reason to.
Like idk yâall, if the guy that got my entire clan wiped out, my sect burned down, and caused the deaths of my sister and her husband died and came back from dead, I wouldnât just threaten him with a dog and yell at him. I would kill him. But he doesnât he has every opportunity to in multiple instances after confirming that itâs Wei Wuxian, but he never does. He seems more interested in dragging Wei Wuxian home (literally stating that heâs going to bring Wei Wuxian home to Lotus Pier to kneel before his parentsâ graves). Like that doesnât imply that heâs going to kill Wei Wuxian, but rather make him repent.Â
I think itâs telling that despite a lot of Jiang Chengâs hurt and pain, he still chooses to not severely hurt or kill Wei Wuxian, it would be within his right to do so, but in the end after itâs all over, he letâs Wei Wuxian go. He doesnât tell Wei Wuxian that he sacrificed himself for him, because he knew that Wei Wuxian would feel guilty and obligated to him, just like Wei Wuxian knew Jiang Cheng would feel guilty and obligated. That to me shows a survivor choosing to break the cycle of hurt and pain and I have to question why Jiang Cheng antis so often choose to ignore the side of him that does love Wei Wuxian (itâs up to the viewer whether they see that love as romantic or platonic), enough so to let him go and not burden him with pain.
Jiang Chengâs story and character arc is at itâs core about trauma, survival, and rising above dire circumstances despite the odds. He attempts the impossible and manages to succeed in it. And to ignore that is a disservice to his character, survivors of trauma, and the effort MXTX put into creating such a complex and interesting character.
Jiang Cheng canonically has the sexiest laugh out of all the characters, and I feel that's something we as a fandom don't talk about enough
believe it or not i got my dick sucked because of that one tweet you did today
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOD
Got some more asks after this one saying the same thing. Suck her dick sunday strikes again.
So I literally just started supporting Onlyoneof like uh like a week ago, but like it's so interesting to me how much backlash they're getting for their video/song LibidO???!!!
Like one of the problems people seem to have with them is that that were allowed to do the choegraphy on Mnet when Mnet will usually make people cover up tattoos and stuff, but like that literally just makes it cooler that they WERE able to preform on there unedited.
Like why are you guys all bashing on them for making progress in the kpop world???????
facts
letâs talk about onlyoneof.
if you donât know whats going on, onlyoneof released an EP âinstinct part 1â with the title track âlibidOâ on april 8th. this song got a lot of attention due to their highly suggestive dance and many called that queerbaiting and only doing this for attention.
as a bisexual woman, i donât think this is queerbaiting. if you watch the whole music video, its about the discovery of sexual desire and drive within individuals or in this case, males, hence why itâs called libido. in their description it wrote âlibido is considered a feeling that shouldnât be openly talked about in real life and should be concealed, so its existence is often deniedâ. i like how they went this route to express a topic that majority of us are going through but its too taboo of a topic to be discussed. its okay to not talk about your sexual desires and experiences if youâre uncomfortable but its also okay to express them how ever you like. whatâs not okay is to talk down to those who are willing to share their experiences to those who need guidance and/or advice because youâre uncomfortable with that. although there are scenes that are suggestive, most of the scenes i find pure as they are just doing things normal people do like walking while holding hands, running on tracks, having fun in the river etc. not only theyâre discovering their sexual desires but themselves as well. if anything this concept to me is about self-discovery.
that part with love and nine was the only thing people pointed out as queerbaiting and while the suggestive choreography is well⌠questionable, you do have to admit if they were to get a female dancer for this, it would cause uproar. the members were okay with doing suggestive choreography with each other and in fact were excited to explore a topic that was stigmatised in korea. at the end of the day, they were completely okay with the concept and they are grown men so they are able to give consent before doing something different.
kpop stans reacting to this in a negative way because they are âqueerbaitingâ and such just shows how many stans are nickpicking what they like about queer representation. itâs okay to not like it, iâm not saying they have to like âlibidOâ but if they are fine with the fan service and ships between the members and even the fanfics erotic or not about them, but they draw the line at onlyoneof turning something so taboo into art, i honestly find that ironic.
before i finish, i wanted to say that we cannot assume their sexuality because of this. unless they come out themselves, we cannot give them a label. for now they have no label just like everyone else unless they tell you otherwise. also labelling them as straight is also assuming their sexuality in case someone wants to come at me.
edit: i also want to add that the LGBTQ community is not a place for sexual fantasies, so i find that refreshing to see scenes like walking on the beach holding hands being used as an example of how we are portrayed in media. itâs upsetting to know that people treat us as an aesthetic or even a fetish rather than individuals. we are human too.
one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid⢠is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.
DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOUâRE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.
One of my college professors used to say âanything worth doing is worth doing poorly.â I didnât understand that for years because I didnât do anything poorly, I couldnât do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.
But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting. Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible. Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible. Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I donât have the energy to go anywhere.
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly⌠because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.

i had a very illuminating conversation with a guy about 10 years younger than me that really put this change into perspective, which is this:
i have a very distinct memory, in my childhood, of the moment of my disillusionment. i believed that grown-ups knew what they were doing, and that the things that seemed so obvious to me had to be obvious to them, too (things like DONâT GO TO WAR IN IRAQ, for example). i believed that, and had that belief pulled out from under me, so my disillusionment comes with a sense of betrayal.
a mere 10 years younger than me, this guy has no such moment or memory. he never believed grown-ups were fundamentally competent, or good, or reasonable. he never lived in a world where things didnât feel constantly careening wildly out of control. thereâs no betrayal in his sense that the government has failed him - of course it has, it was always going to. he doesnât remember a time pre-bush, or pre-9/11, or pre-iraq war. this is just what the world has always looked like for him. so itâs not really a sense of âdisillusionment,â actually - his generation never had any illusions to lose. theyâve just been in this world so long itâs all theyâve ever known.
