continuation of all I learned, doing digital media fundamentals at tafe, with josh searson.
ourgroup decided to do a version of Aesop's Fable, The Lion and the Mouse. we will consider how two toy or statues, one of a lion and one odf a mouse, will be propped, manipulated.....photographed and moved, directed into place for each frame. We are deciding on the scwenery and two stars. I brought along a shiney, silver statue of a lion but Chris brought along a much loved, well worn one her children owned. It is a brown, soft one. Ed brought along a brown and a white, soft mouse.and we decided on the white one. My shiney one as smart and as real as it appears to be, would still have looked stilted, artificial, by comparrisson.and in accordance with the tone of our inteneded videa. Chris searched for the set, including trees we could move around, and stick in place with poster tape. In fact we have used w As we continued to work, doing it all including changing the actions of our stars, has not always worked, sop we have had to persevere, to get it right.ire, poster taspe and string, to make this happen, with all of what we are using. Our set is propped into half a carton, so it stands. The trees and log the lion jumped over have been easier to move and stand than I had thought would be. I did our stroryboard, all of it anmd am pleased because I drew it and tried to make it all as real looking as could be. I am pleased with hopw it turned out, even in how I can draw lions. Ed did a great deal of the directing, and Chris helped also, but as I was doing so much of the photography, I found it hard to do all of the directing with them, because of my views of our stars and their actions. It was tedious, our stars had to be moved and removed, so many times, and for a very short distance at times. I'm thrilled as to how our little mouse can turn a complete circle, due to how we moved him, and how tiny each of some of those steps or changes were. If we had not taken care re this, it would have made our stars move in a stillted, jwerky way, which would have spoiled our video. Each movement was for each frame. Josh has advised us as a class, that advanced video making can be about fifty frames a second and in fact a great deal more. We are not quite there yet, but hopefully Hollywood is keeping an ear our re our progress. Maybe anyway. Our script includes,'And a little mouse walked leisurely in the jungle. I doubt if, in consideration or all of the dangers to a mouse, that it would be that realaxed, but Hey! it's a video, so that makes it possible for ours to be relaxed. Also in this way, he is taking on more human characteriostics, and cartoons are much about identifying with iconising, people. The characters of cartoons are what we relate to. re our real selves, our real sgtruggles, life............ Our lion strolled in the jungle also which is how he came across our little mouse. In so doing, he jumped over a log, and pounced on it. The mouse then begged for his life and the lion did what one does not usually do, he let the mouse live. They hugged and said goodbye. ????? Well it's o k because it's a video. so they can hug. Ed found a headless Ken doll at his home so we had to only photograph the body. He is the hunter who catches our lion. We placed the lion on the net and I photographed this, then we pulled the net up more, then we pulled it up and around the lion, and in frames to follow, the lion is being lifted in the net, up. The next scene is in the New York Zoo, with the lion in a dingy, small cage. But the mouse comes along, notices the lion. once again, I don't know how he got fropm Africa to New york, but it is only a video. Maybe he hitched a ride with the crew who stole his lion friend. Anyway, the mouse throws bubble gum to the lion who places his paw on it, with our direction, then proceeds to unwrap it. He then blows it into a bubble.and the bubbler carries him up over the wall of his cage, to freedom. You might think blowing bubles was an easy endeavour but Chris tried and tried to do so, I got nowhere and finally we had to put the gum around a christmans decoration, Ed went home for. Meanwhile I pulled out my em,ergency stops and begged the sculpture de[partment for anything that was or could be made, a ball for the gum to go around. I netted a peice of styrene foam but did niot even try to make a ball out of it. . The lion and the mouse meet again ad say goddbye! The following week we organised the scenes, putting these in appropriate folders,in Adobe Premier. We had to click at the top of the screen on folder, then click on the first frame, then the last frame of a scene,, dragging each with the mouse, into the folder. which we labelled. I did a great deal of this. The computer program then fills the rest of the frames in a scene, between the first and last frame. I would hate to have to do this, as it would be tedious. The following week again, we edited it. To describe this process, I will use wiords. In the screen on the right is a little box for each scene to go into. There is a thin, red line, a time line, that goes across the sceen, hiorizontally. Above this are the boxes to use to decide which sounds to use for the video. And along, down the screen, a bit to the right are the boxes about choosing the frames and the timing of each, in the timeline, and in how the video sounds what, and when, therefore making it all work together as it should. The credits were easy to add on to the end, using text. I was credited as Meeenkats. Josh. Please note that there is my 2013 attempt at the course posted, last year. Another Lyn animation and a Meme titled No Meat DAy. There might also be a meme with Vincent Van Gough there. Please donm't confuse these with my class work with you. I have to give some relevant examples of digital media that relate to the course. I will give one of the first project and the second project. These will be two I will do myself, for my future work in digital media. Example One. I want to go from the name of Lyn to the meaning, being Lion. I want a lion to be the web mopther of a site that recruit children to improve our community. The animation will have four layers. Each will be hidden after it appears, so the next layer will be on it's own, then the same re the next one and so on. Each layer will be a character, being a young lion or lioness, teen lions, and each will bwelong to the web site members of it, and be wearing tee shirts with athe logo.'Changing the world together.' I have a brilliant name but won't publish it until I have explored copywrite law and sort out what needs to be done, to protect it so it's mine. The website will be about amaking a better world, and cchildren are great canditates for the task. Each opf the four will have their name in text, andd some good things ascribed to their name. I will use coloured text, that varies, for interest. Colour atrracts attention, and engages the viewer, as long as it is well thought out, and not something like purple dots on red....... Stuart, Casey,Chris and Kim will be the names I wil use. I will draw my own lions, rather than use clip art. Photos of lions will not be as interwsting as the clip art type, like the one I used, which has a personality but is not arepresentation of blandness of weakness. In each layer the character will be placed in the design so it appears to be comming forward, presenting itself to the viewer, to the world. Project Two will be an animation like the lion and the mouse one. The story will be of the four driving a jeep in the jungle. I want them to be like people,so we can identify with them easilly. The jeep will have the site logo on it. As they drive along, they come across an old lion, starving because he has been evicted from his pride. The four comfort him, and three, leaving Stuart with the old lion, drive along, until they find the left overs of a kill. They take some back to the old lion and feed him. After this they erect a shelter for him and promise to come each day to feed him. I want the scenery, the props and the old lion to be as real looking as can be. It is the four teen lions, the stars, whop will be wearing tee shirts and acting, looking like characters that young people might identify. I thing that if the old lion is too much not like a real one, then this might take from thje impact of the story.Abandoned animals, and people tooo, are a really serious social issue for us all..
