āA~aah, itās been quite a while!ā
āĀ at first, it was hard to accept. he didn't want to ruin it. he didn't want to soil it. in a way, uta was his savior-- that very thin line between death and life, and yori wanted to savor it. he didn't wish to exploit it, but... in a way, he felt as if he already did. he can remember staying up at night with his face in hands, cursing and shouting at himself that he was a fool. he was hopeless. he was without a cause. he didn't want this to be true. he wanted to go home so bad. he wanted to be anywhere but here, but it's hard to want and need things when you were not the puppet master. this sting in his chest and this ache in his bones; he knew it was because he wasn't truly in love. and so, he cried out -- i don't want this, i've never wanted it. ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āāā merry christmas,Ā ramona!! Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā (Ā 2 / 2 -- @inter-se-solusĀ )
inter-se-solusā:
Ā Ā Ā ā Many would want to question late-night appearance of one so surely busy, so enigmatically evasive with his doings and plans and why he would turn up where nobody would except him so. But, could the same not be said about the actor and whatever little scheme he had been working on? Did it truly matter when the mask maker tilts his head in mild wonderment, a tale-telling smile attached as if to question whatever would drive him to linger around here?
Ā Ā ā Truthfully, he didnāt care.
Ā Ā ā So steps would take him around that fellow clown of his, ignoring any perfectly rehearsed mimicry of an artistās play, before setting down objects of preparation, forms and shapes, materials, all to be brought together soon enough [ tomorrow, perhaps? ] to something grand and neededā
Ā Ā ā āah, now he should humour the attempt of conversation. Uta was only here because his shop was closed now. His own mind free for a bit longer. [ Free? How laughable ]. āPerhaps.ā Perhaps. Perhaps. Perhaps. Whatever would it mean? Nothing, and everything quite at all. āCurious, arenāt you~? And that where I havenāt even said a word.ā
Ā Ā ā Turning and twisting in his place to abandon all in his hands for later use, said hands - moments later - placed upon the closed surface of an otherwise empty crate. A little push later and he sat on top of it, legs crossing over one another for idly watching of all these little tidbits fulfilled in front of him. Oh, Yori would never change. āWhat does it matter to you~?ā His relationship was one of a kind. āI do suppose your questioning of my personal affairs has a reason.ā Not to play with him right now, he was not in the mood, but would still let the mouse run after the cheese. āJust get out with it. It spares us both the hassle~ā
It seemed that it was working.
Yori stood still, allowing for Uta to go wherever it was (if he was lucky, uta would simply walk out of the room without a word.) that he needed to be. The soft steps of his superior was almost like music to his ears, allowing for the actor to nearly breathe easy were it not for the sudden stop. Fingers subconsciously grasped tighter at his arms, digging into otherwise fine material as he stared straight ahead.
Now, he knew that his act wasnāt working. Admittedly, he should have expected this.
Oh, if only he could kick himself right now--!
No longer was Uta before him but, rather, somewhat behind him. He supposed that it was fitting, for a man such as Uta... he was always meant to have the upper-hand in all kinds of situations-- even ones so minute such as this one. Yori knew he should have been aggravated (and, maybe, if he were a year younger or even a year older, he wouldāve been.) but, instead, allowed for a short smile to expose itself.
āIs it inappropriate for me to show interest in a friendāsĀ personal life? It seems that I am digging a little... tooĀ deep?ā he questioned, nearly immediate within this so-called curiosity. Perhaps he was too bold. Perhaps he was too persistent.Ā āIs it really that odd, sir Uta--ā
There he was stopped. Own smile faltered, if only slightly, upon blunt statement. It seemed, now, that he has already lost this round. Was anyone surprised, though?
ā...ā
(ah, damn. damn it all.)
Glancing over his shoulder, Yori allowed for his vision to adjust (to spot uta immediately. casually seated over a crate. darn, yori was planning on using that one.) before looking away once more. Another attempt at a boastful grin was made, Yori wanting it to be heard within own voice.
āCutting right to the chase, are we? Very well! You always did take the reins on these sorts of issues, sir Uta!ā
(have i really gotten that rusty?)
āI was, ah... merely curious regarding the state of you two. I have been caught up in personal issues of my own, and I thought it appropriate to gather information from trusted sources.ā He wouldnāt attempt to mimic, however. Simply just, he wanted to see what it was like for others.Ā āIām an old man, you see-- times have changed, and I wish to keep up with them!ā
carcasethiefā:
{ ā Laughing Dog dealt with ghouls on a regular basis, and although that usually involved trying (and succeeding) to kill them, he was familiar with a certain amount of theatrics. This, however, seemed extraordinary even to him. The performance came with such practised ease, its obvious artificiality seemed almost natural, almost sincere. It reminded him a bit of⦠well, at any rate, he really was in no position to judge. His own continuous performance just happened to be of the more subtle kind.
Ā Ā Ā Even so, the fiddling with the lock had him feeling on edge within seconds, although he took care not to let it show. A simple door shouldnāt require so much time, especiallyĀ in a place like this ā it could be simply another exaggerated action, part of the ongoing show just for his viewing pleasure, but it looked much more like stalling for time. Laughing Dog would be lying if he said he wasnāt at least a little surprised to find nothing other than what he had been promised when the door finally opened.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā (It ought to be a pleasant surprise, yet he couldnāt seem to decide whether he was relieved or disappointed.)
Ā Ā His movements were slow and deliberate as he passed the other ghoul and stepped into the room. Although he had his reservations about turning his back on a stranger, he did so nevertheless as to show he was not afraid (but with his caution visible enough to show that he was no fool, either). He found nothing out of place. No sounds, no smells. It seemed it really was just the two (three?) of them. Satisfied, he lowered the corpse to the floor, the smell of rot immediately spreading throughout the room the moment he retracted his kagune.
Ā Ā āYou may partake in my feast, if you wish,ā he said to the other, his head half-turned to look at him, his voice low and hoarse and coloured with hollow amusement. It was not an offer made out of generosity or kindness ā he would rather keep the ghoul within sight, but he did so hate having others watch him while he ate. āAlthoughā¦ā
Ā Ā His eyes briefly flickered from the stranger to the body on the floor. The corpse was bloated, eyes bulging and purplish grey skin loose around it like a torn plastic wrap. An unappetising meal at the very best. āI donāt blame you if you donāt.ā
Ā Ā Only a starving ghoul would eat something so far gone, he reckoned, and this one didnāt strike him as starving, but he did strike him as someone as likely to say yes as he was to say no to such an offer. Laughing Dog, never having cared much for things such as chairs and cutlery, sat down on the floor without much further ado, shaking pale hair out of his face and laughing a quiet, bitter laugh behind his mask.
To put two entirely different souls into the same room, Yori was not unfamiliar with the irony of situation heās put himself in. Could he have very well died if he pressed too hard too soon? Most likely! However, he enjoyed the thrill in his own sick, little way. Arms folded their selves behind his back as he observed with distant interest, enthusiasm both dying down yet never leaving all the same.
āA feast...?ā he questioned, purposefully upholding an oblivious nature as he leaned to the side to the now rehomed corpse. Eyes quickly gazed over it, looking them it up and down with sloppy curiosity before he returned his attention back towards the stranger.Ā āOh, I see! I do very well see!ā
Hands pressed together with straightened fingers, Yoriās eyes briefly lighting up at the idea. Upon own visage showed a distinct grin (one that matched both childish nature and conniving deviance! fantastic!), partiallyĀ ācutā in half by his joined hands pressing tips of longest fingers against his lips. Eyebrows raised in interest as it seemed that he was genuinely considering the idea.
Despite not looking like it, he had, indeed, took note of the fleeting comment. He wouldnāt be blamed if he chose not to, huh? Well, Yori appreciated being given a choice!
(ah... they are such an ugly sort. poor sodās already thrown into the final stage.)
And for the smallest of moments, the persona of rambunctious actor dropped from expression. Briefly did he choose to wear a look of sincerity, hands having since lowered their selves away to only allow for one to curl inquisitively at his chin. Fingers tugged, pulled, and played with beard (finely trimmed. yori does well for a man that, for all intents and purposes, was seen as a ghost of undying past.) as he remained silent, merely preferring to allow for the other ghoul to seat himself and grow comfortable.
Attention drew itself towards the left as smile curled itself along lips seconds later, the actor letting his eyes fall to a shut as he huffed.
āI am a very picky eater, however...ā he begun, voice low and purposefully easy to miss before raising tone to what was expectedĀ from extravagance,Ā ā... I have been known to enjoy the tongue in particular!ā
The meat of a kill hardly mattered to Yori. He had found himself wondering if the kill was truly of this gentlemanās doing, purely because of the condition but then led himself in circles before finally-- he came to the conclusion that it did not matter.
Nothing really, truly mattered in this city after all!
āThat would serve as quite a fetching parting gift, would it not?ā
He narrowed his eyes, forward in displaying true colors that mustāve lasted for but a half of a second before he returned to his clown-like self. Hands proudly (and loosely. just in case of an attack! one never does know!) placed their selves on his hips in blatant show of confidence.
āUnless... you desire for me to stay! It is not hard to assume that I seem an untrustworthy sort, hmm?ā
"Do it one more time, it has to be perfect."
@clownedbitch
āA~aah, you are quite the difficult woman to please!ā
Nonetheless, heās already moving to engage in the same act that (heās kept count. how could he have not? it made the situation a little less monotonous.) heās mustāve done at least... at least fiveĀ times now.
It could always be worse, though. The knowledge of that was enough for him to keep his persona perfected.
āMay I be so bold as to state-- that you are veryĀ lucky that I adoreĀ you, madam Itori! Otherwise, Iād be quite a spoiled brat regarding this precarious situation!ā
Holding the baton within both hands, he struck a quick pose before beginning to twirl the object within one hand (heās quite dexterous, if he had to toot his own horn!) and disregarding any and everything else. It goes from one hand to another, bouncing fluidly into the air and seamlessly moving into its tenth or so full rotation before he came to a sudden stop.Ā
Both of his hands press down onto the baton as itās slammed into the ground in one, full motion. Legs crossed themselves at the ankle as he uses the item as a loose sort of support. Head bowed forward for a handful of silent moments before, gradually, Yori raised his gaze towards hers.
āWas that more to your tastes, dear madam?~ā

āOh! Sir Uta!!ā
As always, heās been caught with his hands tied behind his back-- metaphorically, of course! Originally having situated himself into a crouch with back turned to his superior, he was suddenly at the alert with both hands proudly on his hips as if feeling truly triumphant. After just another moment, heās wiping away a nonexistent bead of sweat from his forehead (itās so theatrical. itās so dramatic. itās so... him!) with a big, wide grin on his face.
āI was not expecting to see you here so late!āĀ
āYou really do know how to sneak up on others, hmm?~ā
Nonetheless, itās merely a tease. Nothing more, nothing less. Arms move to cross over his chest in sudden shift of feeling, Yori subconsciously guarding himself against whatever sort of questioning heās come to expect. Perhaps, though, he could swiftly work to deflect the spotlight from falling onto himĀ and turn it over onto Uta (for once, thatās what he wants. he doesnāt want attention. he finds this... particular subject somewhat embarrassing-- somewhat childlike.) with little to no problem.
āHow are you and sir Renji faring? Well, I hope!ā
pellecebraeā:
ā¦Ā Ā Ā Works and ways of moving, of presenting himself { she could easily tell that he was an actor of sorts } had her merely tilt her head in mild inquire of knowing more. She did not wonder, for her own field of work would have her meet kind of his every once in a while, desiring more than they had bargained for, and finding themselves refused time and time again. He was different, she knew right away, and it was amusing in a particular kind of a near endearing way but no smile, no otherwise performative reaction would lighten up unreadable features.
⦠  āHm~ I see.ā
⦠  And would one not want to direct question as to how he had been aware of her very person? Ah, no, after listening to all what he had to offer, she decides it mattered not { mentioning her brother and mother in the same breath? it would be foolish to inquire }. āYou appeared more so lost if I were honest.ā And obviously, she would be, with a hand rising up, slender fingers curling in and beneath her chin as if she were to analyse in ways of police seen in shows flickering upon large tv { she didnāt care, only mimicked behaviour suitable for her }.
⦠  āIt is rare for anybody to refer to my brother in ways so adoring.ā So finally, she does smile, in that softened way that showed and proclaimed something was so very - wrong. āAnd even rarer does it find itself that one was to know my mother.ā But there was nothing behind it past just that. Given her to be so absent from public life. āI do assume you met her when she was still a singer?ā
Yoriās aware of the Lazarus family-- at least, he was to an extent. Heās aware of theĀ ācultureā behind the family, but he had no shame in admitting his ignorance towards how truly deep of a rabbit hole it was. Acknowledgement regarding the family was an easy endeavor him, seeing as he had no reason whatsoever to begin feuding with them.Ā
All in all, though, he supposed he would know the littlest about Elettra (give or take. he most likely has much to learn regarding the lot of them, but she rang as truly... something else to him.) and her implications within the family.
āA~aah, so it was that obvious, huh? My apologies! I do not mean to look so out of place!ā Yet he does and does so without remorse nor shame. It gives him excuse (hidden behind the loose disguise ofĀ āexplanationā.) to linger, to stay, and to observe.Ā āWell, I doubt that Iāll be a lost wayfarer now that you are here to, hmm, assist?ā
Truthfully, he did not appreciate the terms, but he supposed heād make due.
As sheās speaking, heās swift to turn on his heels and cross his arms over his chest. Head tilts from side to side as he observes vague reflections of himself within smooth surfaces of various decor before returning his attention back towards her. A true gentleman never leaves a woman waiting for too long, after all!
āI imagine he is not the type to befriend many? Should I consider myself lucky, lucky~?ā he teased, playfully canting his head towards her (he took note of the smile. itās hard to determine right now whether it was apart of her character or if it were something more.) out of mere jest.Ā āI kid, I kid... I am sure he has his reasons!ā
āAh, but your mother... the true star of this conversation, is she not?ā
Yoriās a man with age, this much he knows. It was only to be expected that heād have run-ins with others in a similar age range, and their mother was no exception to the rule. He does, however, yield slightly out of uncertainty of the relationship she held with her children. He freely assumed as a part of his act, but heād never push to a point where itād get him a free boot to (and maybe up, depending on the force exerted!) his arse.
āIāve known her since then, yes. Iāve contemplated working with her in my glory days, but I did not wish to bog her down with the peasantās work of theater. It seemed that her husband -- your father, yes? -- had big ideas and so did she.ā
He smirked, offering forth a snicker all the while.
āI did enjoy her smile, though. Yours reminds me quite a bit of it, in truth~ā
white-reaperā:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā A lie would it be to assume he would miss those small signals being displayed in front of him. Be they truthful or not? - it mattered littleĀ if anything at all. Expectation would have it that he might call him out for these sort of ātricksā that might not even be some, but - frankly enough - the Reaper was not entertained at all. Whatever it meant, it either would come to find itself useful later on, or be discarded until whatever next meeting they might āindulgeā in [ if there would even be one at all ].
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Vulnerability was only an accumulation of the possible - if oneself was not found as āvulnerableā who would be able to exploit it? [ And might not be many still ā? ]. Brushed aside the same second snap of his fingers had rung around the room. Tearing out of thoughts and back to attention when asked questions tumble back and forth inside his interlocutorās mind.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā He supposes there was a possibility to humour it even more. And anybody who had known the Special Class for a moment longer would realise that this occasion here had dragged on for far more heartbeats than he was able and willing to spill.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Why not see where it would lead?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Knows well enough what they both would need to give in order to not find own sanity at the edge of breaking.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āYou speak about insulting my abilities and control, and yet offer forth āpeaceā I am very well aware of that is not one to begin with.ā For what was peace in their eyes? The collection of an acceptance to stay in own path and never step out of self-imposed boundaries, lest they desire and accept it all to break and a war to flood the land and those unsuspecting souls outside of their own realm of existence. āLet us reevaluate it.ā What was peace in their minds? Remaining in their own active reach of powers without mingling in another partyās very own, decidedly fiddling with only their individual means of survival and growing greedy, greedy - so surely ravenous. āI am knowledgeable of your dear superiors and their destructive tendencies, soāā What was peace in their hands?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āāIf I admit and suspect myself to the acceptance of something quite as fickle as your word brought forth from those that control you - how am I to know that they would control themselves?ā For what is āpeaceā - if not a precious little word?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā A discardable thought.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā But a reaction for an action, is it not? Mimicked comfort of leaning back in his chair, crossed legs to uncross, to change, to swiftly offer a new display of āeaseā, head to be set to an angle as if only being quite so attentive with mocking humour laced in whatever word he had proclaimed only seconds prior. These thoughts about something that so many thousands, hundred thousand, million, uncountable, would truly and utterly want?Ā And the investigatorās own knowledge about the topic was that his āassociatesā would rather turn this earth to dust than try and salvage what shall remain in tainted innocence.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā No, frankly and in truth. He only partially thought like this. Else protecting what was so sure dear to him would not find itself his daily means of acting.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ah, he wanted something else, but what it was? That would remain to be seen. āAlas, I think it might be just like my own partners for you. How am I to tell you and make you believe that my comrades would not destroy and burn those bridges we work so hard to raise?ā Easy, there was no way. But there were a hundred different ones to ensure it. āItās a bitter back and forth, donāt you think, Mister Yori?ā
By all means, Arima certainly was a tough nut to crack! Why, if they were meeting under any other circumstance, he mightāve applauded him.
However, instead, all that he did was listen quietly and politely. Attention was stagnant, practically glued on nothing else but the Reaper himself. It was such a fitting name that Yoriās figured that heād merely refer to him as such when the opportunity arose. Heās not exactly... terrifiedĀ of what could happen, but heās certainly aware of what could and wouldĀ happen. Arima was not someone to dabble with, to toy around with and expect to come out alive-- let alone, unscathed.
So, merely, all he can do? All he can do is watch.
He observes with impeccable attention (if even if it does not seem as such. he hopes that he is underestimated to only an extent. he likes to surprise people, after all.) the way the investigator moves, taking mental note of the way his head tilted and the lack thereof of idle twitches. Ah, he was certainly a creepy spectacle to behold, but he supposed that that was to be expected!
āOh dear... Oh, I am following right behind you now, sir Arima.ā
Swiftly does his hand move, threading itself neatly through white tresses and only proves to further accentuate the unnecessary picking heās done to own skin while sitting in wait. Heās exhausted, but itās not because of Arima himself. Rather, he was tired because he knew it was going to be like this.Ā
He was tired because he knew he had to actĀ like it. The scene he chose to play would be easy to pluck apart, gradually picking one piece out of it over and over until, finally, there lay an actor with naked words and casual niceties.
āThatās the joy of such a thing, though, is it not?ā He knew very well that that was, in fact, not something to find entertainment within.Ā āI, however, can understand the underlying anxiety it would make you and your coworkers shoulder! That was mighty foolish of me to word as such, wasnāt it?ā
(ah... they were not kidding when speaking of you.)
Light chuckle escaped at mention of his own name, Yori finding it somewhat ironic that his own mannerisms would be turned around on him. It was not aimed, though, as a tactic. He simply finds it funny that politeness and mindfulness could come off as so... threatening.
āI have been directed to display the terms and nothing more. My superiors -- they have all been rather cordial, as well -- have bestowed that upon me as part of the conditions. If you do not agree to it then I, and, by extension, they, understand. But let it be known... that it was their idea in the first place.ā
Ah... but how should he tackle the true problem child of this conversation? He certainly was not expecting this truce to go swimmingly.
If anything, he may have been selfishly curious to see how long itād truly last.
āHowever... I am under the impression that they would follow your word, would they not?ā Those that knew how to survive, that is.Ā āThese, ah, ilk that do not follow behind? Haha! Well! The undesirables, as weāll call them, should not be a problem in this hypothetical! If they involve themselves then, well--ā he pauses to brush his hands against one another to mock dusting them off,Ā ā--that is that!ā
He smiled then, warm yet confident.
āThese are all hypothetical situations, though! As you said, itād be such a difficultĀ task to uphold that it may as well not exist.ā
(but it does. but it will.)
āI should take this more seriously!ā
So he relaxes, body language growing excessively lax for but a moment before flexing. It strains itself with tense shoulders and legs crossed over another one, hands coming to join together on topmost knee as he gives a single roll of the shoulders.
āIt could last for a day. It could last for even just one hour.ā There went a tilt of the head and a breathy chuckle, the briefest flicker of disbelief showing within his eyes.Ā āIt all depends on what theyĀ feel is appropriate.ā
here comes the sirens-- bang, bang, bang. i'm just running from the violence.
The Unlikely Candidates, Violence
a very easy way of provoking yori is to involveĀ nori. he cares dearly about the man, much more than he does for the clowns or for himself, even. noriās one of the few beings thatāve broken past yoriās narcissistic tendencies and have inspired (fueled him in a way.) him to put forth all of that energy into doting, and anything similar, on him.
however, because of this, yori doesnāt regret biting bait at all when noriās pulled into the equation. be it by mention, an out of place touch, or even a misplaced joke, yoriās bound to react in some way. he usually fashions theĀ āpunishmentsā around the context, meaning this--
if the offending party spoke ill of nori? yori would take their tongue, break their teeth, and much, much more. he might even consider peeling off their lips with his fingers if heās so inclined. maybe heād rip them off with his teeth.
if they tried to physically harm nori? yori would hastily work to stop them and then attempt to do what they were about to do to him on them, instead. itād be at a much more ferocious volume, however, and yori would simply revel in the idea.
granted, though, heās capable of recognizing the difference between sincere threats and mere, playful jokes. however, he has no regret nor remorse in reacting if he feels that nori is in danger or is being mistreated.
I am both worse and better than you thought.
