part one — part two
you looked at yourself in the mirror and repeatedly poked at your face.
surely, you were dreaming.
in a few minutes, you’d be on your way to hang out with percy and his friends. hang out with percy. the thought made you giddy, and you couldn’t help the small squeal that slipped past your lips.
oh gods, oh gods.
you looked fine, and that was..fine.. you wish you look prettier, but what could you do? you frowned slightly and let out a soft sigh.
after pulling yourself away from the mirror you stood in your room very still, thinking. “bag,” you mumbled to yourself before moving, grabbing your satchel full of very important things. such as your journal and many colorful pens and highlighters. hand lotion and hand sanitizer, and mini jars that you liked to collect for some reason.
a knock on your door made you jump slightly and you turned to face it. the biggest grin on your face, you hurriedly put your shoes on and shouted out a quick “coming!” before making your way to the door.
standing behind it and calming yourself, you relaxed your face then opened it. seeing percy, he looked sort of.. opposite of what you imagined. his smile seemed forced and the joy in his eyes felt off.
“hey,” he greeted, sounding cheerful. you stared at him, unresponsive. you knew something wasn’t right and he knew that you knew.
“hi,” you said briefly, not looking away. “what’s wrong?”
“er, nothing. but, change of plans, it’s just gonna be the two of us,” percy told you, sounding awkward. you knew there was more to it, and you wanted to know so badly.
“oh, that’s okay.” you nodded slowly and looked away, deciding that maybe you starting was weirding him out.
“cool. hey, come with me. I wanna show you something cool.” his smile turned into something more genuine.
and you smiled too.

you followed him through a bunch of trees and foliage, and he would look back at you every so often. and everytime he did you gave him a small smile.
“so…” you spoke up, wanting to make small talk with the boy in front of you. “where exactly are we going?”
“somewhere cool, duh,” you heard percy giggle a little bit when he said that, and you swore you fell a little bit deeper.
you smiled softly and percy then turned to look at you. his pace slowed slightly until the two of you were now walking side by side.
“well, for all I know you could be bringing me to my doom.” the two of you continued to walk, and you occasionally kicked some leaves or rocks or sticks on the ground in your way.
“oh yeah, I’m doing that,” he looked over at you and smiled slyly. “life as you know it will never be the same.”
you smiled even more. in a casual, joking conversation with a boy you adored more than anything in the world. a boy you’d even kill for. made you feel special.
for once, you felt like a normal teen.
the two of you then walked in silence, the sounds of nature and your footsteps relaxing. after what felt like a rather long walk, the two of you made it to a beach.
of course.
“you’re gonna drown me?” you asked playfully. percy nodded. “shitttt.”
“do you swim?” percy questioned as the two of you sat on the sand.
“ehh. I know how to stay afloat if that counts.” you shrugged.
“c’mon.” percy stood and offered a hand to help you up. inwardly cheering, you grabbed it and pulled yourself up. he didn’t let go as he then started to pull you towards the water.
you smiled, focusing on how warm his hand was and that the two of you were holding hands anyways. it made you feel as giddy as a teen girl in love.
before he could lead you any further, you paused. “my shoes. let me take them off first.” he nodded and let go, letting you crouch and take your shoes and socks off. once you did, you stood back up with a smile.
percy grabbed your hand again. “as long ad you’re touching me, you’ll stay dry. I have that ability. which is rather useful if I do say so myself.”
“oh, okay.” you nodded.
slowly walking into the water, even despite his words you expected to get wet, but didn’t. it felt weird and you let out an awed sort of laugh.
the two of you were now mid-thigh deep in the water and just standing there. gentle waves moved around the two of you but you didn’t pay much mind to them as you looked ahead of you.
today was such a nice day, and you wish it could last forever. but nothing good ever lasted and you knew that, and so you would cherish this moment.
percy looked over at you and smiled before going deeper and bringing you along with him. soon enough the both of you were standing with the water to your midriffs, and you used your free hand to ‘touch’ the water around you. you weren’t getting wet though, which was a relief.
“sorry we couldn’t hang out with my friends,” percy started, breaking the silence. “just a sudden change of plans.”
you knew it wasn’t the full truth, but you weren’t going to push it.
“it’s fine, really,” you smiled at him, and he smiled back.
oh, how you wished this would last forever. even as friends, even if nothing more happened. because a life with percy, romantic or platonic, was one worth living.
and so maybe you’d just get over your silly little crush. after all, he has a girlfriend. you’ll push aside your feelings because percy’s more important than that.
even if you wished for the little things with him.
like shopping together, or watching a movie together and falling asleep with it playing in the background. you yearned for a simple life with him.
a life that wasn’t yours to live.
your mood turned bitter sweet and you looked over at him — only to find him already looking at you.
well, even if this was all you got, it’s not that bad.
