Fic idea that I probably wonāt write, but it sounded good in my head :)
Itās a Vietnam AU that takes place towards the end of the war, mid to late seventies. Daniel watches in horror as the last draft is conducted, the grainy voice coming from the tv stating December 18th, 1956 had been drawn.
Quickly making his way through basic training he is dropped in the middle of the conflict. Private LaRusso is assigned to platoon 101, where lieutenant Silver places him into squad 1, known affectionately as the Cobras. They are led by sergeant Kreese, a man whose ruthless and questionable orders are passed onto the subordinates he commands. There he meets his fellow soldiers, a group of 7 boys around his age who got stuck in this mess just like him.
Of the seven, he finds Private Lawrence especially difficult to work with, constantly questioning his actions and blind loyalty to their commanding officer. Through their time living, working, and escaping certain death together Daniel sees glimpses of the boys they used to be and comes to understand who is the real enemy.
The end would conclude with an act known as fragging āthe deliberate or attempted killing of a soldier, usually a superior, by a fellow soldier.ā Eventually they reach a breaking point, done suffering from the cruelty of Sergeant Kreese and Lieutenant Silver, the squad concludes that their only way out is by eliminating them. After triggering a massive explosion that takes of the lives of both Silver and Kreese, Daniel, Johnny, and the rest of the squad is discharge back home.
The problem with this fic is I would have to do a lot of research to make it historically accurate and would run the risk of it coming off as āAmerica makes a movie about how massacring another country made the soldiers who did it sadā. After learning was fragging was I thought it was kinda fitting for the tkk universe.
