Hi I am Mercedes but you can call me MJ, Mercy or Cedes. I am not really sure what to write here but hi and if you have any questions or concerns or even just want to talk just hit me up and leave me a message! This is a Samcedes 1x1.
“You won’t put me out, and anyway, Eva, my maid and cook, doesn’t really want anyone else in the kitchen. So just tell her what you want, and voila. Think of this as vacation. Don’t worry about taking advantage of anything. Make yourself at home. There’s a pool, a sauna, and as for your wardrobe, my driver can take you clothing shopping after breakfast, or you can my personal stylist can come by and shop while you guys are enjoying yourself.” Sam hoped that he wasn’t overwhelming her, he just wants her to be comfortable and not worry about Damien or anything else.
Mercedes nodded, she could understand his maid not wanting a bigger mess on her hands. “Sam, I I I I really appriciate you doing this, you taking us in I promise we won’t be a burden and won’t be here long, I am sure Damien will be looking for us soon.” “Daddy got mad at mommy, he broke the glass.” Mercedes kissed Gabby’s head as she snuggled closer to Mercedes, she didn’t know what to say so she just sighed. “Ummm I don’t want you going out of your way Sam, thats a lot of money.”
Sam immediately began shaking his head. “No, don’t be silly. You don’t have to stay in the shelter. You and Gabby are more than welcomed to stay here as long as you like.” Sam wanted to question her about what happened at her husband’s place, but decided to not do so in front of her daughter. “Hello Gabby. I’m Sam and I must say those are some awesome pajamas you and your mommy are wearing.” He then looked at Mercedes. “You didn’t bring anything with you?” He said as he saw that she only had a little bag with her. “It’s fine if you didn’t. If you’re hungry, Jesse can whip something up for you guys. And while she is doing that, I can show you where you’ll stay at, and give you guys time to settle in before breakfast is served. How does that sound?”
Mercedes sighed in relief and smiled. “Yeah we didn’t have time to get dressed, or have time to grab anything. I don’t mean to be a bother I should have thought this out more.” Gabby looked at Sam and smiled shyly. “Gabby are you hungry?” The little girl nodded and Mercedes looked at Sam. “I really don’t want to put you out I can make her something if you direct me to the kitchen, I just I don’t want to take advantage of your kindness.”
Sam was surprised to hear from Mercedes, After everything that happened on poker night, he really thought that would be the last time he saw her. He knew Damien would let his pride get in the way and probably never come to another poker night, and if he did, he wouldn’t bring Mercedes. But when Mercedes called him, it made him feel like he has earned her trust enough to the point that she was willing to sneak out and come to his place. The door bell ringing snapped him out of his thoughts, and normally his maid would go answer it, but he waved her away before answering the door himself. He smiled when he saw her, and then his face turned confused. Who was this little thing with her? “Uh, he Mercedes, glad you changed your mind. Come in.” He stepped aside so she can come in and closed his door. “So, whose this?”
Mercedes had been chewing her bottom lip when the door opened, Gabby shoved her head into Mercedes neck and she looked nervously to Sam, maybe this was a mistake. Sam invited her in and she shifted Gabby before walking in. “I am sorry to just show up here you know? But I didn’t have anywhere else to go and after what happened tonight, I couldn’t stay.” She glanced at her daughter. “This is Gabby, my daughter. I’m sorry Sam, I couldn’t take you up on your offer because I couldn’t leave her. I know she wasn’t apart of the deal and if you want me to leave we can find a shelter or somewhere to stay.”
Mercedes held onto Gabby as the driver made their way to Sam’s place. She called him as soon as Damien went to sleep and told him that she needed to get out now. She left with the clothes on her back and a small backpack of things for Gabby. She didn’t want to pack and risk waking him up. She knew if she didn’t leave now she wouldn’t get out. Damien scared her, he had never put his hands on her, so when he shoved her against the wall and left a bruise on her arm, she knew that was one step away from hitting her. As the car came to a stop, she wondered if Sam would take back what he said once he found out she had a daughter. “Well its now or never.” She said to herself. Picking up Gabby, she made her way tot he front door, and swallowed before ringing the doorbell. She shifted the sleeping girl in her arms as she waited patiently for Sam to answer.
Mercedes pulled away from Sam and sighed heavily. She nodded. “Okay, thank you. I uh didn’t really have money for a cab so I would have had to walk.” She was truly grateful for Sam. Considering she didn’t work and Damien controlled all her money, she had nothing to her name. “You are a really great guy Sam, one day you are gonna make some woman very happy by making her your wife.”
Sam smiled at her while his driver pulled up. “You don’t have to thank me at all. It’s the least I can do.” Sam just smiled and shrugged at the wife comment. He opened the door for her and waited until she got in. “And remember, I gave you that number so in case anything happens, you can call me. Day or night.” Sam closed the door and hit the top once, so his driver can pull off. He hoped that she took him up on his offer sooner, rather than later, but until then, he will just wait it out for her. He was sure that she would be worth it.
What: Mercedes reaches her final straw with Damien.
Where: Damien’s House
Notes: Verbal Abuse
Mercedes was grateful to Sam, he didn’t have to get her a ride home but he did, she actually had time to think about his offer. It was sweet and needed, but it wasn’t right for a married woman to just show up to a random man's house, considering she was married and her husband didn’t like him, plus there was something about Mercedes Sam just didn’t know. By the time Sam had let Damien home she had been sleep in her room with the door locked. The next day Mercedes had spent her time cleaning, folding clothes and cooking dinner. She knew he was still mad because she didn’t hear from him, but he knew that she would still be there.
Mercedes stood in the kitchen pouring the pasta in the strainer when she heard the door slam. The way he slammed it, told her everything she needed to know about how his day was, and the slamming meant it was not good. She went on with dinner not wanting to disturb him. She looked to her three year old daughter Gaby and smiled. “Honey lets go set the table.” “K mommy.” she hummed. Grabbing the garlic bread from the oven she placed it on the counter as she added the angel hair pasta to the chicken Parmesan. She heard the shower running and knew she had less than 15 minutes to have dinner on the table or Damien would get angry.
As she meticulously placed the plates down and grabbed the wine from the counter, Damien walked out in a pair of sweats. He bent down picking up Gaby kissing her cheek, then putting her in her high chair. Mercedes forced out a smile as she spotted him, carefully eyeing his actions. “Hey how was your day?”
“How many times do I have to tell you “Hay” is for horses, do I look like some farm animal hillbilly? No I am not so I don’t expect my wife to greet me with such a colloquial greeting as that. It's a wonder our daughter has any manners at all. Start over.”
She bit the inside of her lip looking at him. “Hello Damien, how are you this evening.”
Damien grabbed his fork as he took a seat. “I swear if I didn’t know your parents, I would swear you had no house training. Every time I take you out this house you come back doing this, acting so ignorant.”
“Damien I know you are still upset about last night-”
His hand slammed down on the table causing both females to jump.
“DO NOT BRING UP LAST NIGHT! OUT THERE SLUTTING AROUND WHEN YOU HAD A CHILD AT HOME.” He shouted as a glass flew across the room. Gaby looked up frightened but remained silent as this was normal in their house. He looked at her then sighed. “I swear you like pissing me off.”
Mercedes sat in terror looking at him, then over to Gaby who was a few seconds from crying. This was the beginning of the end if she didn’t appease his ego. She wasn’t always this way, she had a voice, a loud one. She even stood up to him, was ready to leave, until she found out about Gaby. She was her own person and happy, vibrant. But being married to Damien dimmed her light. She stopped fighting for her daughter but she could see the damage it was doing.
She swallowed hard looking at her husband.
“I am sorry you were embarrassed Damien.”
“Yes I was, that man tried to take advantage, he didn’t even want you just wanted to embarrass me.”
Mercy looked at him frowning. “I know, and I shouldn’t have been upset.” She spoke softly.
“That man tricked me into betting you, but like i told him last night, you are mines. No one is going to have what is mines.”
Mercedes placed her fork down and looked at him. “If you just.”
“ENOUGH! I have said all I care to on the matter. It doesn’t matter since you will not be going anywhere ever again.”
“Damien please you can’t mean that.”
His fork clanged down hard on the table and she jerked up looking at him. He took a sip of his drink nodding. “I said no more. IF you leave this house, there will be consequences.”
He went back to eating and they sat there in silence, she glanced at her daughter who began playing with her Doc McStuffins Placemat and Mercedes died inside praying for the strength to finally leave him.
After dinner was finished and she cleaned up the table and the broken glass on the floor, then got Gaby ready for bed.
“Mommy, why is daddy always yelling at you?”
Mercedes hugged her daughter tightly as she tried to mask her own sadness. “Baby he yells because he doesn’t know how to use his inside voice but I promise I will talk to him about it. Now it's bedtime.”
“One more story? Please?”
Mercedes sighed, she really was in no hurry to see Damien so she nodded. “Just one more then its bedtime.”
After she read the story, and Gaby drifted off to sleep, she tiredly made her way to the bedroom. She walked passed Damien in his office and walked into her room sitting on the bed with her hands in her head. How had this become her life? Why did she let things get this far? But she knew the answer, she owed Damien, he protected her, saved her. She stared in her closet at her suitcase, she didn’t have to pack a lot just enough to get a break for a few days like Sam said,.
He looked down to the Card Sam gave her. She could go but would he accept her daughter?
“What are you doing?”
She was so deep in thought she didn’t hear him come into the room or stand in the doorway. She looked up and noticed his eyes looked angry.
“Nothing just getting ready for bed.”
She went to hide the card but he grabbed it from her and saw the name. “Samuel Evans? Why do you have this? ARE YOU TRYING TO LEAVE ME?”
“Damien no, he just gave it to me. I am sorry I am so sorry.”
SHUT UP!” He yelled as his hands reached out picking her off the bed, he grew even more angry reliving his embarrassment last night and he shoved her against the wall, making her lose her balance. “You are never leaving here do you hear me?”
She nodded in fear, he may have yelled but he never touched her before.
“I SAID DO!” He slammed her against the wall hands still wrapped around her shoulders. “YOU!” Slammed her harder. “HEAR ME?”
“Yes.” She cried out as he threw her away from him and straightened out his shirt. “I have some cases to look over. Clean yourself up before bed.”
He walked across the room and she cried curled up in a ball on the floor. In front of her was Sam’s card crumbled on the floor, she had to take a chance and pray he had a place for Gaby too.
Sam returned her hug, and didn’t press her anymore about the subject. He was just happy that she took the key and knew that she was welcomed anytime. “Well don’t leave by yourself. Let my driver take you at least. It’s the least I can do for making this such a shitty night.” He pulled out his phone and called his driver. A minute later, he was done. “He’ll be out here in two minutes, ready to take you where ever you want to to go. We won’t let Damien leave for another hour, just to give you sometime to get home.”
“Look, I know you’re frustrated and hurt and you have every right to be. I won’t force you. If you turn around and leave right now, I’ll let you because you’re a grown woman and are capable of making your own choices.” Sam didn’t want her to go, but she wasn’t property and he wouldn’t force her to do something she didn’t want to do. “Look at my place as a resort of some sort. Where you can get a break from all the house wife duties. I have maids, and cooks, and I have a massage therapist on call if you need one.” Sam didn’t know if she was going convinced, so he just made sure that she knew she was always welcomed. “Look, you can go back to your husband tonight and try to smooth things over if you want. Just know, that my doors is always opened for you. This offer doesn’t end if you leave with Damien tonight. If you ever need a break, and want to get away, you have an open invitation.” Sam reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. “In fact, take my keys, I have a few extra in my house. If at any time you feel in danger, or you need a break, just come over. You don’t even have to call first.” Sam handed her the keys before putting his hands in his pockets.
Mercedes stared at Sam for a long time, she had never met anyone like him, she could tell that he was genuine and it was refreshing. “Sam I want to thank you for the offer, thank you for not holding me to his bet, I want to take you up on your offer, you have no idea how much I want to. But regardless of being treated badly or not, Damien is my husband and staying with another man is wrong.” He held out the key and she hesitated before she took it. “I am sure I can calm him down but if it gets bad I will take you up on your offer.” She chewed her bottom lip ;looking at the man in front of her. She was terrified to go home, afraid of what Damien might do but she made a commitment no matter the reason, she sighed before moving closer to Sam and pulling him into a hug. She felt a need for a hug in that moment, and it was a feeling she wasn’t prepared for.
I have never been in your situation before, so I don't know what to tell you. The only time that men fight over me is when I have the TV remote in my hands. Besides, my relationships have never been the abusive kind. Here's what I think. You don't love the Damien, nor like him as an individual. Damien has more to lose than you. He is a lawyer. By covering up a death, he has committed a crime. He will lose his license to practice law. Let Sam keep you safe for those 2 weeks if not longer.
PM: I don’t love him but I owe him my life, that means something. And I don’t know Sam, I mean I have hung with him a few times a month but never one on one. But the thought of him keeping me safe for a few weeks does sound good.
Girl, I don't know what I would do if I was in your shoes. I do know that I am concerned about you. This is a damn if you do, damn if you don't situation and you are caught in the middle. Which is the lesser of 2 evils? Sam is right. Damien is mad right now because of verbal lashing you gave him in front of his "friend". But I don't he will calm down any. If you stay with Sam, Damien will be just as mad, if not worse, once those 2 weeks are up. So what do you plan to do?
Thank you, for the concern it is a bad situation to be in because Damien is all I have and what Sam is offering me, its something I have never experienced. But I am married and its wrong to stay with another man. But then its wrong to have your husband lose you in a bet. Ugh I don’t know tbh.... what would you do?
“Call me Sam, please. and I know what I did was wrong, and I do apologize for how it’s making you feel. But I’m not sorry for exposing your douche bag husband for the shitty man that he is.” Sam didn’t know Mercedes story, but his heart clenched when she said she didn’t have anyone. No one should have to be alone. “You don’t have to be alone. I’m offering you friendship. And even if you hate me, you can still stay here, and not see me. I’ll make sure that I stay at one part of the house and you another. Think of it as a mini vacation.” Sam stepped closer to her. “Damien is pretty embarrassed and upset. I am scared that he may try to take it out on you. You can use these two weeks to try and let him calm down also.”
Mercedes looked at him as she wiped her eyes. “Friendship? Or is it you feel sorry for me and want to show the world you can acquire people and paintings?” She glanced at him quickly wishing she hadn’t said that. “I am sorry that was mean, I am just not okay with how all this went down and I appreciate you offering your house and services like massages and whatnot but I wouldn’t know what to do for two weeks of not cooking and cleaning... of taking care of someone.” Sam stepped closer to her and she knew he was right. “He isn’t going to be okay if I don’t come home.”
Sam lowered his eyes and licked his lips. “I know you think I’m a monster, and yes I orchestrated this whole thing so that he would bet you. Secretly I was hoping that he had some kind of morals, and drew the line when it came to you, but that didn’t happen.” Sam shoved his hands in his pocket to ease down his nervousness. “Look, the truth is, Damien treats you like shit. And that’s not hard to see because he is a piece of shit. He doesn’t deserve you at all. And I only wanted to prove that to you. And to prove to him that if he doesn’t change, someone can and will try to take his place. I’m not looking for anything more than your company. Stay here for two weeks as my guest. You can get massages, sit by the pool, get waited on hand and foot, and after those two weeks, you can go home to Damien. That’s all I want from you. Just your company.”
Mercedes sighed shaking her head as the tears fell. Damien used to hide the way he treated her better than he did nowadays. Now its clear to everyone the truth behind their marriage. But she couldn’t leave him, her life would be ruined. But how could she go back home now, knowing exactly what he thought about her. He thought she was nothing more than property. Hearing Sam’s explanation she could see why he did what he did, it didn’t make it right but she would have loved to hear that he bet her and Damien said no. “He is all I have. I have no family, no friends, no where to go.” Her voice trailed off as she grew even more embarrassed. “Don’t get me wrong Mr. Evans, while I am flattered that you want my company I find what you did repulsive, you attributed me to property just like he did.” She sighed. “Why do you want my company anyways. You are wealthy and handsome I am sure you can have anyone else relax at your mansion for a week or two.”
Sam did feel bad that Mercedes was used as a pawn in this game. And he was going to just let her go. But something wasn’t right. He really felt that if Damien left with her, it wouldn’t turn well for her at all. And he had to act, even if she slaps him in his face. Sam signaled for his guards, and they came and basically held Damien by both arms. Sam knew that he wouldn’t be able to break out of that hole. He left and basically ran after Mercedes. When he finally caught up to her, he saw the anger and hurt in her face. He wanted to reach out and hold her, but he knew that wouldn’t be welcomed. “Mercedes, I just want to say that I’m sorry about everything that happened to night. You’re not property to be given away at a poker game. And believe me, that wasn’t my intentions.”
Mercedes stepped out of her shoes as she continued to walk down the street. She pulled out her phone and didn’t know who to call. She was completely dependent on Damien and that was how he wanted her. She heard someone come behind her and she turned ready for a fight but was shocked to see Sam standing there and not her husbands. Her first instinct was to slap him, he was a cocky man and that showed tonight. He started to speak and she was shocked, he was apologizing, that wasn’t something she expected, though it didn’t ease her pain. She scoffed. “It wasn’t your intention? Then what was your intention? Because I know men like you, men like him. Women are only good enough when you want something from them, so what do you want? He bet me but you accepted the bet! That makes you just as bad as he is.”
Sam was hoping that he didn’t have to call some people to get Damien to see reason. He wanted a peaceful poker night, but of course, that wasn’t going to happen. Sam finally stood, and glared at Damien, and how he was almost manhandling her. “I’m sorry Mercedes, but it seems like your husband had bet you. And I know how that sounds, but all bets are final.”
Mercedes glanced at Sam and then at Damien, she knew she heard him wrong, there was no way Sam just told her Damien bet her. “Come again? I must have blacked out or something I could have sworn you just said he bet me.” Mercedes looked at Damien who had loosened his grip on her. She could see the guilt on his face. “What the hell kinda sick person bets his wife?! And what the hell kinda sick person accepts?” She spat.
Damien watched her and for a moment he felt guilty but then he was not the one to let his wife say or do whatever she wanted in front of people. “We will talk about this at home. Get your things and lets go.” She pulled away from him and he narrowed his eyes at her, something he knew she wasn’t stupid enough to ignore. “Get your shit and lets go to the fuckin car Mercedes.”
Mercedes watched Damien grow angrier but for some reason she didn’t care. She took a lot from him, he verbally abused her, made her his own personal live in maid, and only showed her respect when he wanted something from her. And she let him because he kept her secret but none of this was worth it, worth losing more of her own self respect. She stepped away from the table looking at the men who surrounded her. “Screw you.” She said turning and walking away from the table and to the front door. She left the house walking down the hill as she grabbed her cell phone needing to call a ride, but having no idea where she would go.
Sam wasn’t about to let Damien leave with her. He gave him a chance to tell her, but he didn’t take it. So now Sam was going to tell her. “It seems that your husband has a bit of gambling problem. He made a bet and now is trying to renege. Maybe you and I can speak privately?”
Mercedes glanced around and could see the poker crowd looking at her, could see that something huge was going down. “Mr. Evans I am sorry, whatever he bet I will make sure he pays.” She turned towards Damien. “I know you like to gamble but this is getting ridiculous, now pay the man so we can go.” She knew he would make her pay for that comment but she was tired and her feet hurt.”
