Week 16.

This week marked the end of the preparation for the PIT presentation on Saturday (last day of presentation). Our group focuses on debugging our system as our main functionality have not finalized yet. Doing the revisions during the consultation has also been a our main target to finish.

We may not purely sure to achieve the 100% but we know that we did our best to make this system. Lapses may be seen and encountered, but we are hopeful for what tomorrow will bring. Ajaaaaa!

Week 15.

That day marked our last day of class in Software Design and Engineering course. We began the day with a Quiz , which tested our knowledge of Data Mining and Data Visualization. The quiz challenged us to apply our learning.

Afterward, we discussed how these topics are applied in real-world scenarios, like helping businesses make better decisions or enhancing user experiences. Sir Carl also emphasized the importance of mastering these skills for software engineers. The class ended with a group photo, filled with laughter and smiles, as we reflected on the effort and support that defined our journey.

There was a strong sense of gratitude and accomplishment, as the course provided valuable knowledge and skills we’ll carry forward in our careers. We expressed our thanks to Sir Carl for his dedication and support throughout this unforgettable experience. We may not be the best section and the best students but you had bring so much for us to help us in this journey. Thank you for the understanding, for always provides what we needs and for all the things you have done.

On this day, we took a quiz that tested our understanding of key topics we had recently studied. These included software reliability, focusing on ensuring systems perform consistently without failure; quality management, which involves maintaining high standards and continuous improvement in software development; ISO standards, which provide guidelines for efficient and compliant software processes; and API fundamentals, which explain how software systems communicate and integrate with one another. The quiz helped reinforce our knowledge of these essential concepts in software development and management.

Week 13.

On that day, sir Carl had a class discussion covering the topics in API and data mining. Understanding the principles behind software reliability and quality management, we can better understand how to design and maintain systems that meet user needs and expectations. He explained how businesses are increasingly relying on data to gain insights into customer behavior, predict customer needs, and optimize their services to create more personalized experiences. It was eye-opening to learn how businesses leverage vast amounts of data to make informed decisions and shape their strategies. By analyzing customer data, companies can identify patterns and trends that help them better anticipate the products and services that customers may want in the future. This gives businesses a competitive edge, allowing them to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty. The discussion highlighted the critical role data plays not only in marketing but also in operational and strategic decisions across various industries.

Right after the discussion, we had a 10-item seatwork that was designed to assess our comprehension of the data mining concepts. It was a helpful exercise that allowed us to gauge how well we had grasped the material.

After completing the seatwork, we moved on to a group activity where we were tasked with applying the data mining techniques we had just discussed. In our groups, we worked together to develop strategies for identifying and engaging customers in a business context. This activity encouraged us to think critically about how data mining can be used in real-life marketing scenarios. We had to come up with creative ways to analyze customer data and develop targeted strategies for reaching specific audiences. The exercise not only helped reinforce our understanding of data mining but also gave us valuable hands-on experience in using these techniques to build practical marketing strategies. It was a collaborative and informative session made with the class.

Week 11.

On that day, I wasn’t able to attend class because of a personal matter. However, I didn’t let the time go to waste—I decided to focus on working on our project instead. It felt like a practical way to stay productive and ensure I was still contributing, even though I couldn’t be present in class.

I’m hopeful that I’ll have the opportunity to either complete the activity I missed that day or find an alternative way to make up for it. Missing it felt like a setback, but I’m determined to catch up and ensure I stay on track. Whether it’s by taking the activity at a later date or completing an equivalent task, I want to demonstrate my willingness to take responsibility for my absence and remain fully engaged with the class or project requirements.

Earlier today, our instructor introduced us to a new topic: APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). The session began with a pretest, likely designed to gauge our prior knowledge or prepare us for the material we were about to learn. After the pretest, the instructor gave a concise yet informative discussion about APIs, explaining their purpose, functionality, and relevance in programming and system integration. Following this introduction, we transitioned into a group activity, which allowed us to apply what we had just learned in a collaborative setting. This sequence of activities—pretest, discussion, and group work—helped reinforce our understanding of APIs through both theoretical and practical approaches.

At that day, there was no class as it was midterms exams week. We continue to work on our project at that day and week for the presentation of PIT. We had our team meeting and had a "kumustahan" on our assigned task.

During the laboratory class, we had our scheduled PIT presentation of 70% progress of our system. We haven't got the 100% as we still had more to add that we have not implemented in making the system. Comments were given right after we present the PIT and we are given a chance to present again the next day for the remaining functionalities as well as improvements to make.

At that day, we had a quiz from the topic that was discuss on the last week. It contains an identification, enumeration, and analysis. We prepared and had it studied beforehand but when I was there, I totally block out. The easiest part was on the SUS score on the last part but I overlooked the part where I must multiply the totality of each respondents to 2.5 before adding and dividing it to get its average. As I handed in my paper, I felt like I didn't do well on the quiz. That i should have done better. My preparation is not good enough. I hope I can make up for the next one.

Software Testing.

At this moment our instructor discuss mainly on software testing, testing techniques and strategies (Black box testing, White box testing, Regression testing), test automation, quality assurance practices and user acceptance.

After discussing, we were asked to be with our SDE groups. An activity was given. It was fun and good exercise to test our knowledge on the previous lessons that was tackled, and as we are starting on work on our projects this would give us insights to any possible issues and providing solution for those issues. By working with the group, we can enhance our skills on communication, collaboration, flexibility and even working under pressure. Practicing this would be beneficial for the team for effective collaboration and success of team projects.

Quiz Part 2.

Thursday, September 12, 2024.

On that week we had so much going on, quizzes and activities on every subject was given. And SDE subject was no exception. We had our quiz part 2. The quiz was not easy, it needs deeper understanding and analyzing the questions is a must. By a short period of time we should be able to provide solutions for those. Pressure was there. I wasn't confident with my answer either as I haven't study enough for the lessons.

While taking the quiz, we were interrupted by an earthquake drill. We were asked to go on the open field for the drill. After a couple of minutes we went back to our room to finish what we had started.

The class ended with relief and disappointments. Relief because the quiz was done and disappointments because even if we did our best, it isn't enough, we can do so much better if we had taken the previous lessons seriously. Still, I am thankful for that day. I was able to look back what i missed on the lessons and will try to to better next time.

After the software engineering, we are now moved on a different topic which was the software design that includes the topics on the principles, patterns, implementation, integration as well as the deployment.

Right after the discussion, we are given a group activity that will enable us to apply our understanding. Each group had chosen different project to be discuss with the group. My group had picked the "Restaurant Reservation System".

Third Week.

Thursday, August 29, 2024.

Last week, our supposed to be a face-to-face schedule on our SDE class was used for consultation hours for our project's progress. Unfortunately, we had not able to consult our progress as my team members have not yet prepare the task I had given. If only I can present my progress and just had my name only for the project, but instead I give them a chance.

I, myself admit the incompetence of my team for being an irresponsible individual in managing task. As a member, I have not guided them through and sometimes good communication with the team is hard to maintain. Working with such people is a big NO to me. Having to be reminded all the time, spoon feeding simple task, no comprehension and so much more. This is a big challenge for this project and for the team as well. I hope they had realized what they had done or should I say what they didn't do.

Still, I want this team to work and to make this project a success.

science. art.

Last week, after we had our brief introduction of the subject, we had moved on to the serious matter. Software Engineering was discussed by our instructor and expounded the topic well. He starts with a question "Is software engineering a science or an art?", and one of my classmate answered that it is a combination of both, and I agree with him. To begin an innovation, one must be creative and has an innovative thinking - that is an art. Right after you formulated an idea, you have to use science to develop and deploy your idea into real matter. Thus it is both, not just one way or another.

Right after the discussion, we had a group exercise. My group's case study was " A wilderness weather station" which would help monitor the climate change and to improve the accuracy of the weather forecast in remote areas. Every group had given different case study to be discussed with, and present it on the class. One member must explain and present it. Then, our instructor ask a couple of question to the presenter regarding on the case study presented. It was a fun experience having a group discussion as we had able to gather different ideas and apply our knowledge from the discussion earlier that day. We may be challenged by the time constraints and the communication within the group but at the end we had made our point.

Software Engineering is a broad and complex discussion. Hearing those terms at first gives me excitement and chills but as I dig deeper, there is more of its name. I now feel terrified for entering this phase, but I think this is valid. Being on a program where we must keep up the pace of innovation and everyone is competitive, it is a challenged for us to not be just contented. Innovate and strive for new ideas for the betterment of everyone and contribute on the industry.

Looking forward for more hands on activity. Hoping for more working with others to improve my/our personal growth and have a better outcome, as well as to cultivates communication and strong work relationships. Lahutay CpE2C!

First day.

Last week, on Thursday was our first day of class as a junior. As usual, the first day was more on introducing ourselves even if we have known each other ever since freshmen. Our instructor also introduce the syllabus for this subject and provides head ups as well.

They said that this year will be the most difficult and will destroy our well-being, so I hope we can endure any pain and suffering on this subject and just look on the brighter side, as the quote said "NO PAIN, NO GAIN", therefore I must stay 'till the end.
