Implausible Tension || Mercedes & Stacey
Mercedes: flipped her omelet in the pan once, then twice, and removed it from the skillet. She gathered a few more things and made her way to the table. Just as she finished saying grace Stacey entered. “Hey,” she greeted the other female but only got a curt smile in return. “I have plenty to share if you’re hungry?”
Stacey: was uncomfortable and hot. She couldn’t sleep due to her sweating like a pig. After cooling off in the bathroom she made her way to the kitchen where she spotted Mercedes. Her stomach growled at the offer of some of her food and as much as she wanted to decline she couldn’t. “Sure,” she answered grabbing a plate and waited as Mercedes cut the food in half and placing the larger part onto her plate. “Thanks,” was all she said as she sat down on the opposite end.
Mercedes: “You’re welcome.” They sat in silence as the ate Mercedes trying to find a way to start up a conversation. “How are you feeling?”
Stacey: hoped the silence would continue but her wish fell on deaf ears. “I’m fine. Pregnant. Hot. Emotional.” She replied not looking up.
Mercedes: “Well I wanted to talk to you see where your head is at. I know this all must be a lot to deal with.”
Stacey: “If this is going to lead to one of those pep talks where you mask your disappointment in me with fake concern please save it. I’ve had enough of those.” She took another bite of the food and stood to grab something to drink from the fridge.
Mercedes: “No, I really am concerned. I know everyone has been treating you like a kid, Sam included and I just really want to know how you are doing?” She had to admit she was a little taken back by Stacey’s tone.
Stacey: “I’m fine. At least I will be. I’m going to deal with this the way I see fit with or without help.” She retorted. “You can go report that back to Sam now.”
Mercedes: didn’t miss the hint of spite in the younger girl’s voice. She wasn’t sure if it was purposely directed to her or just the hormones. “I’m not reporting anything back to Sam. I asked cause I wanted to know how you are. I was in your shoes once but I at least had support and friends to help me. I can see besides Stevie you really don’t have anyone. Everyone is being judgmental and I didn’t want to be like that.” She tried to explain.
Stacey: “Cause you really don’t any room to be. Do you?” She finished the last few bites of her food and swallowed it down with the rest of her drink. “Thanks again for the food. Great talk Mercedes. Really.” She rolled her eyes as she stood from the table and placed her dishes in the sink and left.
Mercedes: watched as Stacey bolted out the kitchen abruptly ending their conversation. “Great, what did I do now.” She said to herself.
