Take It Easy - Marshal Commander Cody x Reader

Summary: You're meant to be taking it easy. Putting your feet up and resting after recovering from an injury you sustained on the battlefield. Unfortunately, cabin fever is a bit hard to deal with.

Author's Note: So this is where I've been for the last couple of months -recovering from bone graft surgery from my hip to my jaw. It has been a journey! But this was inspired by me being absolutely bored by the 2nd week and trying to hang curtains up. Cue being reprimanded by my fam.

When the day started, you hadn’t meant to redecorate your apartment. It had just… happened. Sitting staring at the windows around you, you couldn’t help but decide that they needed sprucing up a little. So instead of the thick heavy curtains that you had to block out the fluorescent lights of Coruscant, you wanted to change them out for something that matched the colours of your living room a little more.

The new curtains were already waiting to be hung up. Cody had promised to do them when he returned back from meeting with General Kenobi. But, you deliberated, it would save him a job if you did it now. Cody had been working none stop, looking after both you, the men and his usual duties helping to run the 3rd System Army.

Plus, it would help with the boredom that came with just lying on the couch, leg propped up and surrounded by a mountain of pillows.

It was decided then.

You would put up the new curtains, all you had to do was get the pole down and thread on the rings that was attached to your new décor. It was an easy job, shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes, even with your bad leg. All you’d have to do was make sure that you were on a firm and stable surface.

It had all been going so well. The side table you were standing on was secure, your hip - though twinging - was doing okay. The curtains were nearly all the way on the pole when you were interrupted.

“What do you think you’re doing?” a voice cut across the room sharply.

Kriff! You barely had time to register the voice when the stool underneath you wobbled dangerously. Double kriff! Flailing your arms, you grimaced, closing your eyes tightly as you prepared to hit the floor with a rather hard bump.

However, a strong pair of arms wrapped around your waist, catching you before you could hit the ground. You were pressed against his chest, held tightly so you wouldn’t injure yourself any further. The edges of his armour was digging into you uncomfortably but you didn’t mind, knowing you were secure in his arms.

Blinking, you looked up into the beautiful golden brown orbs of your lover. “Hey love” you greeted, grimacing slightly at being caught red handed. Honestly, you hadn’t expected him to be back home for hours yet.

“You’re meant to be resting, mesh’la” he said reproachfully, putting you on your feet and guiding you back onto the couch and it’s soft pillows. As soon as you were sitting down, he fluffed the pillows around you, making sure you were comfortable.

“Cody! I am resting!” you whined, grimacing at the pain that flared in your leg.

“Helix said you should be taking it easy” Cody corrected, shaking his head as he headed towards your medication. He slipped off his armour as well until he was in his blacks, stacking the plastoid up to be cleaned later. He returned to you quickly, not wanting to leave you in pain long.

Rolling your eyes, you couldn’t help but huff. Maybe you were getting a bit of cabin fever, but that still didn’t mean you had to sit on the couch all day. “Technically he also said I should be moving around, gaining some mobility” you reminded, quickly taking the medication that he handed over to you. You didn’t want to admit it but you probably shouldn’t have been climbing on stools and hanging up new curtains.

"If you don't take it easy cyare, I'm going to have to comm Helix" Cody sighed heavily, crossing his arms over his broad chest. 

Your mouth fell open, shocked at his last resort. "You wouldn't!" You gasped dramatically, eyes glinting mischievously. You could see a matching look on your Commander's. 

"Try me!" 

"I always try you. You tell me that at least once a week" you rolled your eyes, finally relaxing against your pillows. 

Cody chuffed, smile pulling at his lips as he began to massage your feet, strong fingers pressing into your tired arches. "You're not wrong, cyare. You do like to test me" he agreed warmly, feeling contentment settle into his bones as you let out a soft groan at his touch. 

"Got to keep you on your toes, Commander" you grinned, closing your eyes and sinking into the domestic bliss that was settling in your apartment now that Cody was home. You couldn’t help but sigh as he began to massage up your leg, helping to ease some of the tension that you were carrying there.

“As long as you stay off yours” he said pointedly, lips twitching just enough to show he wasn’t truly angry with you. He just worried. A lot.

After seeing you go down by a clanker, and the scream you had let out as it had fallen on you, breaking your leg. Helix and his assistant medical officer, Slice, had spent hours working on you. Grafting bone from your hip to help repair the damage. Cody could still remember you being wheeled out of surgery, the way you looked like you were barely clinging on, monitors beeping and informing him of your vitals.

If only he had been fast enough to get to you.

Obi-Wan had tried to ease his guilt, reminding him that it was not his fault and there was no such thing as a perfect battle. But it was little comfort when he was sitting at your bedside, waiting for you to wake up.

Thankfully, the 212th was stationed on Coruscant for a couple of weeks on shore leave, while their Jedi General was needed at the Temple. It allowed you both to spend time in your apartment together and to rest and recuperate until he was shipped off to battle once more, while you stayed on planet to recover.

“What were you trying to do anyway?” Cody wondered, breaking himself out of his thoughts and turning back to see you staring at him. He looked away from your knowing gaze and back to the task in his lap.

“I was hanging up those new curtains. I thought it wouldn’t be too strenuous for me if I could stand on something secure. Honestly, I was getting a little bored of these four walls” you admitted, nudging his knee with your other foot.

The Marshal Commander frowned, brow furrowing at your answer. “I told you I would do them after I got back from the debriefing, cyare” he rebuked softly, heart aching at the thought of you hurting himself while he wasn’t here, just because he should have completed the task that you had asked him to do earlier.

“I know, I know. I just wanted to help you” you sighed, sitting up and cupping his cheek. “You’ve been working so hard, you’ve had so much stress on your plate. The war, your brothers, looking after me” you listed, staring into his umber eyes. Leaning forward, you pressed a gentle kiss to the middle of his brow, smoothing down his forehead. “I wanted to make your life just a little bit easier” you explained, running your nose against his before pulling away a little to see him once again. Your handsome, kind, caring man.

Cody’s eyes had softened as he took in your words, understanding now that you had truly just been trying to help. To help ease the weight on his shoulders. “Thank you, cyare, you’re too kind for your own good” he breathed, carefully pushing you back into the cushions beneath you as he brushed his lips against yours. He was mindful of your injuries and didn’t want to cause you any harm.

“But I’m here now. Why don’t you put me to work, huh? Only time you’ll be able to give orders to a Marshal Commander” he chuckled, sliding out from under your legs on his lap and standing up. An analysing look at the job assured him that what you had done was excellent, all he had to do was finish the job.

Scoffing, you relaxed back and admired the view of your love in his body glove. “I doubt it. You love me giving you orders” you teased, winking at him.

“I can’t argue with that” Cody agreed, heading over to finally put your curtains up, just like you wanted them.

Heat Waves

Commander Wolffe x Reader

summary: you and Wolffe invite his brothers around to meet your new baby girl. warnings: some mature references/comments wc: 2213

The first thing you noticed when the ship touched down outside the house was the noise.

Not blaster fire or alarms or comm chatter for once like it used to be but rather just loud, overlapping voices. Rex was laughing at something Fox said, Cody telling them both to shut up before they woke the baby, and Bly making bets on whether Wolffe would let any of them hold her.

You leaned against the doorway with your daughter balanced on your hip, the early afternoon sun warm against your shoulders. The heat had settled comfortably over everything, the kind of summer day where the pool glittered blue and inviting in the backyard, and the air smelled like sunscreen and cut grass.

Your baby blinked sleepily beneath the little sunhat Wolffe insisted she wear whenever she was outside.

Then the brothers spotted her. The entirety of them went quiet. It was honestly a little terrifying. Four clone wars veterans staring with identical faces and varying levels of emotional devastation.

“Oh,” Rex said softly.

Fox folded his arms immediately, smug because he’d already met her. “Told you she was cute.”

“She’s tiny,” Bly breathed.

“That is generally how babies work,” Cody muttered, though his eyes never left her face.

Your daughter stared back at them with deep concentration, little eyebrows furrowing beneath the brim of her hat as if she was trying very hard to understand why her papa had somehow multiplied into four.

Behind you, Wolffe stepped outside carrying towels over one shoulder and immediately clocked the looks on his brothers’ faces.

The hard, intimidating commander lasted all of two seconds before he completely melted. “That’s right,” he said, voice rough with pride as he came to stand beside you. “This is my girl.”

“You say that like you made her yourself.”

“I helped.”

Fox barked a laugh, raising his eyebrows, “Barely.”

You laughed as Wolffe shot Fox a glare that had absolutely no heat behind it. Your daughter made a tiny noise and reached toward the movement, fingers flexing curiously in Wolffe’s direction. The second he took her from you, she relaxed completely against his chest.

And the others noticed immediately.

“Oh, that’s offensive,” Bly said.

“We all look the same,” Rex added.

“She knows,” Wolffe replied simply. The smugness in his voice was unbearable.

Cody stepped closer first, cautious in a way you’d never seen him on a battlefield. “Can I?”

Wolffe hesitated. You reached over and nudged his arm. “They’re not going to steal her.”

“She likes me best.”

Fox barked out a laugh. “You’ve become insufferable since becoming a father.”

Still grumbling under his breath, Wolffe carefully transferred her into Cody’s arms.

Your daughter blinked up at him, then at Rex, then at Bly, and lastly, at Fox. Her tiny face scrunched in visible confusion. Your daughter then continued staring up at Cody with intense suspicion until Rex leaned into her line of sight and gave her a small wave.

Her eyes widened. Another face that looked exactly like her dad's. You watched the exact moment her tiny brain decided this situation was unacceptable. Her mouth wobbled.

“Oh no,” Bly said immediately. “She’s gonna cry.”

Wolffe was already moving before the first sound even came out. The second she was back against his chest, she settled instantly, curling into him with a tiny sigh.

Bly looked delighted, letting out a sharp laugh. “She said that’s my dad, and the rest of you are fraudulent copies.”

Wolffe’s chest puffed up visibly. “Smart girl.”

“You are impossible,” Cody informed him, smiling when he reached over to gently squeeze the baby’s tiny hand.

The pool became chaotic almost immediately. Bly cannonballed in first despite your threats. Cody followed because apparently, maturity did not exist among clone commanders. Fox refused to get his hair wet for approximately thirty seconds before Rex dragged him in by the ankle.

And through all of it, Wolffe never once loosened his grip on your baby. You sat back on the lounger with a cold drink in hand, sunglasses slipping down your nose as you watched your husband carefully lower your daughter into the little baby float ring.

She stared at the water in absolute wonder, Tiny feet kicking experimentally. A splash hit Wolffe directly in the face. The commanders burst into laughter.

“She got you good,” Rex called.

Wolffe wiped water from his eye, looking deeply betrayed. “I protect and provide for you.”

The baby squealed happily and splashed him again. “Ungrateful,” he muttered, though he was smiling so softly it made your chest ache.

He kept one large hand wrapped securely around the float at all times, steering her carefully through the water while the others circled nearby. Every so often, one of them would drift closer to make faces at her. Bly quickly discovered that she loved it when he splashed lightly at the water near her. Rex got her laughing by pretending to dramatically lose fights against her tiny kicks. Even Fox softened enough to hold her little hands while she bounced in the ring. Cody remained the only one she watched suspiciously.

“I don’t understand,” he complained. “I’ve done nothing wrong.”

“She senses regulation,” Fox said.

“She’s four months old.”

“Exactly. Smart enough to dislike paperwork already.”

Wolffe looked over at you then, water slicked over his skin, baby balanced securely against his chest again after she’d gotten tired of floating. That look still hit you every time. Soft around the edges only for you, for her.

His brothers noticed too.

Rex smirked immediately. “Look at him.”

“What?” Wolffe asked.

“You’re doing the face.”

“What face?”

 “You look at them like you were personally blessed by the universe,” Bly spoke.

Wolffe shrugged once, entirely unapologetic. “I was.”

The teasing stopped for a second after that. Not because they didn’t have responses, but because they understood. You saw it in all of them sometimes. The quiet relief, the disbelief. The lingering gratitude of simply being here at all. Alive long enough to have days like this.

Sunshine, family, a baby laughing in the water, no war waiting tomorrow.

Your daughter squealed again as Wolffe lifted her carefully into the air before bringing her back down to kiss her chubby cheek.

The brothers collectively groaned. “Oh, he’s gone gone,” Fox muttered.

“He was gone the second she wrapped her hand around his finger in the medbay,” you replied.

“That bad?”

“Worse.”

Wolffe narrowed his eyes at you. “Traitor.”

You smiled lazily from the lounger. “You cried.”

“I did not.”

“You absolutely cried,” Fox said instantly.

“I had dust in my eye.”

“In the birthing suite?”

“Dangerous place.”

Eventually, your daughter began fussing. Small at first. Tiny unhappy noises against Wolffe’s shoulder while he gently bounced her in the shallow end.

You recognized the signs immediately. “She’s hungry,” you called.

Wolffe frowned like this was personally offensive information. “Already? She just ate.”

“That’s how babies work.”

He looked down at her with visible conflict while she rooted sleepily against his chest.

“You know,” Fox said casually, “there is technically a solution if you’re committed enough.”

Wolffe looked horrified for half a second before realizing where this was going. “Shut up.”

“You’ve spent enough time staring at them,” Bly added helpfully, nodding toward your chest.

Wolffe rolled his eyes, “I hate all of you.”

Your daughter made another unhappy sound, and Wolffe immediately softened again, pressing a kiss to the top of her damp little head. “Alright, mesh’la,” he murmured. “Mama’s got you.”

Still, he was reluctant to hand her over. His arms lingered around her for an extra moment. Then another.

You raised an eyebrow. “Wolffe.”

“She likes cuddling.”

“She also likes eating.”

Wolffe huffed, “Fair.”

Fox made a dramatic show of checking the sky. “Historic moment. Wolffe loses an argument.”

“Record it for the archives,” Rex agreed.

You settled back onto the lounger with the baby tucked against you beneath a light blanket while the others dried off nearby. Conversation drifted easily around you. Stories from deployments, arguments over who had the best squads, Fox insisting he was still everyone’s favorite despite overwhelming evidence otherwise.

Your daughter quieted almost instantly while feeding, tiny fingers curled sleepily against your skin. And right beside you, Wolffe sat cross-legged on the lounger with one arm resting over your thigh, listening to the conversation while absentmindedly tracing patterns against your leg.

Every few minutes, his attention drifted back to the baby, like he physically couldn’t help checking she was okay.

Rex noticed first. “You know she’s not going anywhere, right?”

Wolffe didn’t even look embarrassed. “I know.”

Five seconds later, he checked again anyway.

Bly snorted. “You’re obsessed.”

“She’s my daughter.”

You smiled down at your daughter as she slowly drifted toward sleep, warm and milk-drunk against your chest, while the men around you bickered endlessly.

Peace looked good on all of them. Especially Wolffe.

He leaned over eventually, resting his chin briefly against your shoulder so he could look at the baby properly. “She’s getting bigger.”

“You say that every day.”

“Because she is.”

His voice had gone soft again. That dangerous kind of softness that always made your heart squeeze.

“She’s perfect,” he murmured.

You kissed his temple gently. “Yeah. She is.”

Later, after the baby had been put down to nap and everyone had migrated back toward the pool, you disappeared inside to change after being spit up on. But also partially because you knew exactly what would happen if you put on the red bikini hidden in the back drawer.

Wolffe’s favourite.

You stepped back outside, carrying sunscreen, and immediately caught him looking. 

His conversation with Rex died mid-sentence. Slowly, very slowly, his eyes dragged from your legs upward. Then lower again.

Fox noticed immediately. “Oh, he is struggling.”

Wolffe blinked once like he’d forgotten the others existed.

You bit back a smile as you settled onto the lounger again. “Something wrong, baby?”

His voice came out rougher than before. “No.”

“Interesting,” Rex said. “Because you looked like you stopped breathing for a second.”

“He did,” Bly agreed.

Wolffe shot them both a glare. Completely ineffective, considering he immediately looked back at you again.

The bikini top tied behind your neck, the red fabric warm from the sunlight against your skin. Small enough to be distracting. Especially with the faint marks he’d left against your neck and chest the night before still barely visible beneath the ties.

His eyes caught on them instantly. You watched the exact moment regret entered his soul at the realisation his brothers could probably see them too.

Fox groaned, his head in his hands. “Really, Wolffe?”

“Shut up. ” Wolffe replied, a faint colour of red spreading across his cheeks.

Bly grinned, “There's no need for that, brother. We all know she's yours.”

Wolffe’s jaw tightened. You hid your smile behind your drink.

Cody leaned back against the pool edge. “Now I understand why he stopped answering comms most nights.”

Wolffe pointed at him threateningly. “Don’t.”

“The mystery is solved,” Rex said solemnly. “He was busy.”

“Very busy,” Bly added.

Heat crawled up Wolffe’s neck while the others absolutely feasted on his suffering. You stretched out deliberately on the lounger just to make things worse. His eyes snapped right back to you.

“Oh, that’s pathetic,” Fox laughed.

Wolffe didn’t deny it, didn’t even try. Instead, he climbed out of the pool entirely and walked over until he was standing beside your chair, dripping water everywhere.

The shadow of him fell over you. “You’re doing that on purpose.”

You tilted your sunglasses down slightly. “Doing what?”

His gaze dipped again, slowly. “You know exactly what.”

“Commander,” you said innocently, “are you distracted?”

Behind him, the brothers started making dramatic gagging noises. Wolffe ignored them completely. One massive hand slid along your calf before settling behind your knee possessively. “You’re lucky they’re here.”

“Oh?” you asked softly.

“Very lucky.”

Fox made a loud retching sound from the pool. “Please stop flirting like newlyweds in front of us.”

“You could leave,” Wolffe suggested immediately.

“We just got here!”

Your daughter chose that exact moment to wake up in her shaded little bassinet nearby with a sleepy coo. Everything about Wolffe changed instantly. The tension disappeared from his shoulders, the heated look in his eyes softened immediately as he crouched beside her.

“There’s my girl,” he murmured.

The transition gave all of his brothers emotional whiplash.

“One second away from devouring his wife,” Rex said, “next second fully domestic.”

“That’s fatherhood,” Cody replied wisely.

Wolffe carefully lifted his baby into his arms, and she immediately grabbed onto one of his fingers with both tiny hands. He looked down at her like she personally hung every star in the galaxy. Your chest hurt with affection.

Fox noticed you staring this time and sighed dramatically. “You two are revoltingly in love.”

“Yeah,” you replied easily. “We are.”

Wolffe glanced over at you then. Baby secure against his chest, sunlight catching silver in his hair. That familiar softness only the two of you ever really got to see. Then he walked over and leaned down just enough to press a slow kiss against your mouth while his brothers groaned loudly in the background. Your daughter made a tiny happy noise between you both.

And somehow, impossibly, everything felt complete.

I was wondering if you could you write a Wolffe x medic reader where Wolffe is being his usual stubborn self and refusing treatment from everyone, and the whole Wolfpack is bracing themselves because reader finally snaps at him to sit down 😭 like they fully think they’re about to witness a full-on argument because no one talks to Wolffe like that. and then he just… immediately listens. like no hesitation, no attitude, just sits down like “yes ma’am” and lets them treat him 💀 and everyone is SO confused because this is completely out of character for him, but reader just carries on like it’s normal while Wolffe is uncharacteristically compliant. it’s actually because they’re in a secret established relationship, so this dynamic makes total sense to them but absolutely no one else. kind of a gag fic but this kinda thing cracks me up lmfao. description: Wolffe refuses treatment after being injured on a mission, and you're the only medic who can make him cooperate.

The doors to the medbay hissed open so abruptly that several heads turned, and Wolffe stalked inside with the expression of a man who looked like he'd rather walk straight back into a line of fire than endure a medical exam. A shallow cut split the skin along his jaw, dried blood disappearing down the side of his neck, while the plastoid on his shoulder was scorched with evidence of a possible blaster shot graze.

"I already said I'm fine," Wolffe was snapping, shrugging off the medic trying to steer him towards an examination cot. "It's a scratch."

"A scratch that was leaking onto the floor ten minutes ago," Sinker muttered from the doorway, earning him a glare that shut him down immediately. The other clones around the medbay were pretending not to stare while very obviously staring. This happened every time Wolffe was injured: Wolffe refusing treatment, the medics eventually losing patience. The difference this time was that the General had personally ordered Wolffe to report for treatment before returning to duty, which meant nobody could simply give up and let him leave.

"You need to get that shoulder checked," the medic insisted carefully.

"What I need is sleep."

"Well, your shoulder--"

"I've had worse."

Boost sighed under his breath from where he leaned against the wall near Sinker. "Here we go."

Wolffe folded his arms over his chest and glared at everyone in the room like he was silently threatening whoever was thinking about speaking next. But instead…you walked over, datapad tucked under one arm and exhaustion written plainly across your face after what had clearly been a very long shift. You took one look at Wolffe's stubborn expression and sighed deeply.

"What's the problem now?" You asked, with the cadence of someone who already knew exactly what the problem was.

"He's, uh, refusing treatment," the other medic said immediately, relieved to hand the issue to someone else.

"I don't refuse treatment," Wolffe snapped. "I refuse unnecessary treatment."

You looked him over once, taking in the blood on his jaw and the stiffness in his posture, then exhaled sharply. "Sit down before I make you, Wolffe," you said flatly, already stepping over and reaching for a medscanner.

It seemed like everyone in the medbay immediately stiffened, as if bracing for impact. Someone somewhere muttered a quiet oh, kriff under their breath as if readying to witness the argument of the century.

Instead…Wolffe sat down. No argument. Not even a glare. He just exhaled and lowered himself onto the cot with a low, irritated grumble as you calibrated the medscanner. The silence that followed was deafening.

Boost blinked once. "…What?"

Sinker stared. "Did he just…?"

You ignored them entirely, focused on the readings appearing across the scanner while Wolffe sat there with a deep scowl on his face. The expression should've looked intimidating, but the fact that he was staying still and letting you work was kind of ruining the effect.

Your gaze flicked over him again. "I need to check your shoulder. Armor off."

Wolffe's jaw tightened. "It's bruised."

"Armor. Off."

Wolffe shot you a look but reached up and started unclasping his armor anyway, with the air of a man suffering some kind of profound personal betrayal.

The collective disbelief in the room was palpable at this point. Boost was staring so hard his mouth had actually fallen open, and Sinker was looking between the two of you with growing suspicion like he was trying to solve a problem that made no sense.

You stepped closer, placing a hand on Wolffe's upper arm as you started inspecting the injury on his shoulder. Wolffe hissed quietly through his teeth.

"Oh, so now it hurts," you murmured dryly.

"It didn't before you started poking at it," he muttered back irritably.

You snorted softly at that, but subtly stroked your thumb against his arm twice in silent apology. Wolffe's gaze flicked up to you for half a second, some of the tension in his shoulders easing just a tiny bit before the scowl settled back into place.

You reached for a bacta patch. "You're lucky the shot only grazed you. Another inch over and we'd be having a very different conversation."

Wolffe grunted. "But we're not. Because I'm fine."

"You say that every time."

"And every time, I'm right."

"Debatable." Still, you hid a smile as you smoothed a bacta patch over his injury. The others were still staring in utter disbelief, caught completely off-guard by both Wolffe's uncharacteristic cooperation and your almost familiar bickering.

You finished with the bacta patch, giving Wolffe's shoulder one final pat. Your hand lingered there for a moment, and Wolffe's expression softened a little again.

Sinker's eyes widened in sudden realization. "Ohhhh," he muttered under his breath.

Wolffe immediately scowled harder. "Don't start."

One of the best ones I saw was a thing noting that every single one of the few survivors of suicide jumps off of the Golden Gate Bridge realized, on the way down, that the problems they were killing themselves over actually were fixable or could be worked through...except for the now - extremely unfixable - problem of gravity.

Went to the Holocaust Museum in DC once. There was a video interview of an Auschwitz survivor who said he and some other prisoners stayed up all night with a man who wanted to kill himself. The man didn’t kill himself and survived to liberation.

In the video the survivor said “Never seek a permanent solution to a temporary problem. And they’re all temporary problems.”

Hearing that from a guy who survived the Holocaust rewired my brain a little bit.

I think something a lot of people don't understand is that depression is not suicidality, and suicidality is not depression. People can, and are, depressed without being suicidal, and sometimes suicidality peaks as people are emerging from depression. Suicidality is a wave, and the trick is to allow that wave to crest and subside WITHOUT acting on it. Whatever it takes to ride it out. For some people that's distraction, like watching television. For others it's calling a friend -- not to talk about the suicidality, but just to talk. For others it could be as simple as going to sit in a coffee shop or library, because the presence of other people is a huge diminisher of suicide risk. That's what suicide safety planning is about. It's like having any other type of emergency plan, like a plan for fire or evacuation. It's making a plan when you are in the frame of mind to do so, so that you can just DO the plan without having to think about it when the occasion arises. When you're in the midst of suicidal ideation, or even intent, you're not in a problem-solving mood. So knowing past!you, with the help of a therapist hopefully, came up with the plan and all you have to do is follow up until the wave crests and subsides, is what allows you to see another day.

Warm, Open Fire - Captain Howzer

Summary: When the heating breaks, Howzer steps up to help keep you warm.

“HOWZER!”

The Captain’s honey coloured eyes widened at the shout that filled the house. Tightening his grip on the blaster he was cleaning, he raced towards the living room where you were meant to be.

Entering the room, blaster raised, he was surprised to find you wrestling with the fireplace.

“What’s happened? Are you hurt?” he demanded, scanning the room and finding no threats or anything out of the ordinary.

You turned to him, pout already on your face as you shoved the wood into the hearth. No. You weren’t hurt but everything was not okay.

“The heating is broke! I can’t fix it and they’re not going to send anyone out until after Life Day!” you cried, bundling another jacket on to keep out the chill that was beginning to seep into the house.

Howzer let out a sigh of relief, lowering his blaster and turning the safety on. Crouching down beside you, he laid a gentle hand on your knee, the other coming to rub up and down your arm.

“Okay, we can deal with this cyare. I thought there was something wrong!” he assured, shaking his head with a small smile twisting his lips.

“There is! It’s snowing outside, we have no heating, we’re going to freeze” you insisted, brow furrowing at his words. Although you couldn’t help but lean into his hand as it was generating warmth in you.

Howzer chuckled, taking your hand and helping you to stand. Leading you to the sofa, he placed you on it gently, grabbing the blanket off the back and folding it around you. “We’re not going to freeze, mesh’la” he commented, amused at your dramatics. “I am going to look at the heating, see if I can sort it out. If I can’t, I’ll get one of my vods around to have a look. Then I’m going to build a fire for us and we’ll cuddle up in front of it, nice and warm. Sound good to you?” he informed, brushing a few flyaway strands of hair away from your face.

It did sound pretty good, and once again you were reminded at how much training your love actually had. Not just in fighting or battle logistics, but also in mechanics and engineering. If anyone was going to fix the heating, it would be your Howzer or one of his brothers.

“Aye, Captain. Sounds good” you teased, relaxing back into the sofa and sinking into the warm blanket he had wrapped you in.

Pinching your chin in his fingers, he lifted your head so he could press a quick peck to your lips. “Cheeky. Now stay here and keep warm” he smirked, rolling his eyes before heading off to check the boiler.

Within the hour, Howzer was heading back to you, scratching at the scar on his jaw and grimacing a little as he looked at your bundled up form. “Sorry, cyar’ika. Looks like it might need replacing” he announced, trailing his hands up and down your calves. “Managed to get one of my brothers to come round and fix it up for us. He’s going to be here tomorrow morning” Howzer explained, squeezing your ankle.

“What about tonight?” you wondered, feeling how cold the tip of your nose was. You buried your face into the blanket, voice coming out muffled. “What will we do?”

Giving your ankle one last squeeze, he pushed himself up and headed to the fireplace. “Now, cyare” he drawled, “I’m going to build us a fire so we can cuddle up together.”

Giving a small squeal of excitement, you managed to escape from the blanket and came to kneel before him. “Do I get a say in this?” you teased, leaning into his side.

“Not at all” he smiled, shaking his head.

“Alright then, can I help build the fire?” you asked, reaching for the pile of wood you kept in a basket next to the fireplace.

However, Howzer stopped you, grabbing your hands and brushing his lips against your knuckles. “I don’t think so” he chuckled, shaking his head. “How about you go make us some hot chocolate?” he suggested instead.

“Alright, alright, you take care of the fire, I’ll take care of the drinks” you smirked, nudging his side before getting up. “But you can’t complain when I make them extra sweet!” you reminded, running your hands through his dark curls and down along his jaw and over his cheek, tracing his scars.

“When do I ever complain about that?” he retorted, enjoying the way you snorted at his words before heading to the kitchen. He trailed his eyes down your beautiful body, landing on the curve of your bottom. Leaning forward, and with all the speed of a viper, he struck, hand coming down on your ass with a loud crack.

“Hey!” you yelped, jumping in the air and turning to glare at him.

“Sorry mesh’la, couldn’t resist” he remarked, shrugging his shoulders. A shit eating grin spread across his face.

“Watch it, Captain! I’ll get you back” you warned, pointing a warning finger at him as you turned back to the kitchen.

“Looking forward to it, mesh’la” he promised, turning back to the hearth and getting to work. He had a fire to build and a cyare to keep warm.

By the time you came in with two mugs of hot chocolate – heavy on the squirty cream and chocolate flakes – the fire had caught and was roaring in the fireplace. Warmth was gushing out and was filling the living room with a pleasant heat that helped chase the chill away. The glow from the fire was making your living room look all snug and cosy and you couldn’t wait to get under the blanket with Howzer.

“Good job, love!” you praised, spotting him poking at the fire to make sure it was burning nicely.

“Thanks, cyare” he smiled, taking the cups off you and placing them on the table. He let out a small gasp as you grabbed his hand and pulled him onto the sofa, curling your body around him, legs thrown over his lap. Howzer’s face softened, draping the blanket around you both, ensuring that you were comfortable before wrapping you up in his arms.

Burying his nose into your hair, he closed his eyes, letting out a content little hum. This was exactly what he needed. The peace and quiet of his home, the feel of you in his arms and the way you sighed just as happily against him.

Back on Ryloth, he had never thought this was possible. Never believed he would ever get a chance of a happy ending. He didn’t believe in them. Didn’t have that luxury. But being here with you, tucked up against his chest, snuggling closer for warmth… yeah he was glad he was wrong. As he ran his fingers along your hair, he couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

“Thank you, cyare” he breathed, voice quiet against the crackling of the fire and the hum of the conservator in the kitchen. It felt peaceful, like he didn’t want to talk too loudly in case that peace was shattered.

“You’re welcome, I made yours extra sweet, just how you like it” you murmured, dragging your fingers along his chest, following the curves and valleys of his muscles.

He let out a low, airy chuckle and shook his head. “Thanks, cyare, but I wasn’t talking about that” he grinned, voice laced with fondness. “I was talking about how grateful I am that you came into my life and changed everything I thought I knew. That you’re here, with me. It’s all I’ll ever need, us being together” Howzer revealed, throat thick with emotion as he leant his head against yours.

You let out a small wounded sound at his words. They hit you deeply as your heart clenched at the way he thought his life would have been like had you two not met. Where he could have ended up if you had not stopped him that day to report a crime that you had seen in the market of Ryloth.

It wasn’t worth thinking about. Howzer was here, safe in your arms, pressed against you, his light, welcoming scent wafting in your nose and his warm breath caressing along your crown. You couldn’t think of him being anywhere else either.

“You never have to thank me for that, Howzer. Being here with you… it’s as simple as breathing. There is no where else I’d rather be” you breathed, looking up and cupping his face, amber eyes meeting your own.

Leaning forward, you gently pressed your lips against his, sinking into the kiss as he did the same. The roar of the fire was forgotten, the heat from it around you incomparable to the warmth and love filling your chest just from being with Howzer in this moment. You pulled away, thumb trailing along his left cheekbone.

“Me neither, cyare, me neither” he sighed, pulling away from you and holding you closer to him. Resting his head against yours, he couldn’t wait to spend the rest of his life with you, cosied up in front of a fire or fixing whatever it was around the house. It didn’t matter, as long as you were there together, then everything would be just fine.
