He was nervous, palms sweaty, auburn hair falling gracefully over his face. A little shiver of both excitement and fear moving up and down his spine as he headed down the street to her house. This was… new… This is exactly what he imagined Jack had been talking about, what had caused the Pumpkin King’s madness so long ago. He moved his hand to his lighter, the comfort of the familiar pushing him towards his goal. He had to tell her, he felt as though his heart would burst should he continue to keep this secret any longer. It all happened so quickly, as though lightning had struck him from head to toe. At first she seemed to be a plague on his existence. Her smile and infections laughter making him wonder if she was as unhinged as all the others in Halloween Town. But the fact that no matter what he did to make her go away she remained, the fact that she always stayed whether in anger or fun made him begin to realize there might be something more, something worth trying to figure out.
So he walked, while everything in him was telling him to turn back, to head into the darkness and stay there because that’s where he belonged. He belonged in the dark, he belonged in the shadows with his cohorts. He belonged with nothing but his mischief and the madness that would eventually return him home. He reached her home then, looking up at a lighted window in the night. As he looked up at the window he found that for the first time in this life time he was actually afraid. His hand moved from his pocket bringing his lighter with a pack of smokes. If anything could calm his nerves it was a quick drag before the fall. Lock lit up the cigarette, and cursed himself when he burned his fingers as well. This was not like him, he was always so sure, so ready for anything and then she’d come along to change all that. He took a single drag, letting it linger before letting out the slow breath. His blue eyes landed once more on the window above before very casually picking up some pebbles to throw at her window. They needed a chat, he needed to see her to know that if this was real, if this was what love did or if it was best for the little devil, to simply walk away.
"You can’t let me talk, can you princess…” he spoke, almost in a teasing sort of tone. He was just trying to get his thoughts in order and at this point was painfully aware of just how awkward he was acting. Having her by his side felt normal. It was almost a nice warm feeling, not like what he usually got at home. At home he was met by frying pans flying or a bear trap at his feet. At home he was met by orders and constant chaos. at home he was never truly free, because having no structure and no one to count on without judgement was a rarity, given as all his life he’d been taught to keep his guard, to not trust anyoen completely and that mischief and chaos was a priority over order or peace.
Peace… that’s what he’d seem to have found in Ariel. She brought out the softer side of the boy that no one had ever been able to touch before. It was the side that enjoy playfulness and possibly love. They walked, arms linked and her getting closer, the scent of her hair floating around him. He smiled… “I like you… and I don’t mean in the I want to murder you in your sleep kinda like, you know like back home. I like you, in the Storybrooke sort of way. You get me…” there, he’d said it… and now… he awaited… the drum roll…
Ariel quirked a brow at Lock as he called her princess. Something that she only ever tolerated from him. He always liked to push his luck with her it seemed as he was so fond of calling her that instead of her actual name. Sh secretly quite enjoyed his nickname for her not that she would ever tell him that.
She tilted her head as she listened to him. At first slightly confused by what he was saying. Was he telling her he liked her as a friend? That didn't make sense they already were friends. Could he possibly mean as more than a friend? She thought that was most likely which left her completely stunned. She wasn't one hundred percent sure that he had meant it the way she was thinking but she was definatly going to find out.
Stepping in front of him she forced him to stop walking. Tilting her head she looked up at him for a moment. Trying to figure out how he had meant what he said. Still a little uncertain but hoping she was right she smiled up at him. Throwing her arms around his neck she hugged him before kissing his cheek.
Stepping back quickly she stood there staring at him waiting to see his reaction to what she had just done. Hoping she hadn't assumed wrong about what he had said. If she had things were certain to get interesting.
