made you some graphics to help you remember
I’ve been enjoying doing the exercises in this book to try and get ideas for how I’m going to incorporate data into my arts/crafts.
This prompt was completed using the most recent photos in my phone. Color designates place and the fill indicates the subject of the photo. Turns out I take a lot of reference photos. (The rectangles with vertical lines)
I knit the left front panel twice this weekend. I have so many feelings because I super hate it and I’m really disappointed. My tensioning is all over the place and I’m struggling a lot with the purl rows. I do not like how this turned out, though the second attempt is much better…
So now I’m trying to figure out how to proceed because I don’t want to frog the sleeves and collar… Maybe I make the right panel and back panel plain? I’ll at least have a finished cardigan that I can wear around the house.
Ugh… It is so upsetting when the project you have in your mind is not the one that comes off of the knitting needles.
Progress update after the weekend. Sleeve #1 finished!
Bought the yarn for my Project Hail Mary fox cardigan… Decided to go with mauve instead of red for the tongue. Also thinking maybe the more muted “ginger” rather than “clay” for the fox. I might mess with the graphs to make them look more fox like too… Though I’m also tempted to go full on movie accurate. 🤔
Have to finish my current WIP so I can start on this!!!!
Who else is dying to make this, question.
Progress on sweater #2 with this pattern and yarn. Is there some weird trick to figuring out how much yarn you need for a pattern because I’m not sure how I have so much leftover. After this I’m pretty sure I’ll have enough to make two sweaters for my dog.
Finished the seascape sweater, and really loved the color combo… I have so much yarn leftover that I’m making a second one with the colors reversed. Then I am pretty sure I will still have enough to make matching sweaters for my dog. I do not understand how I always order way too much yarn. I always estimate it based off of the suggested yarn’s weight and meter specs, yet I always have so much leftover. Well this time it’s getting turned into something else.
I love this quote from "The Borrowers." It was one of my favorite books as a kid and I recently read it again just to see how different it would feel reading it as adult. In this portion of the book Arrietty is contemplating moving from her childhood home, and it still really hits a chord with me. Wanting that sense of adventure and to travel, but still have a safe place to return to. Made a little photo collage of it.
I understand the concept, but for some reason this just makes me uncomfortable.

Oh if only I could go back in time in my life to when G.W. Bush was the worst president I had experienced. (I know I was also alive when Reagan was President but at the time I didn’t have awareness of how bad he was fucking the entire country as I was way too young to even begin to understand politics)
I’ve struggled to call myself an artist for decades. Truly depressing because as a kid/teen art was one of the most important things to me and I rarely went anywhere without my sketchbook. One of my aunts commented that of all the kids of my generation she knew as long as she had pencil and paper I’d be perfectly happy to just hang out. But after high school I didn’t feel particularly drawn to any art career, and going to an arts college felt so financially out of my reach that I just languished. I started working multiple jobs and then when I did return to school I decided on something more “practical.” Slowly and steadily I painted less, then I stopped completely, then my drawing stopped. I have kept up with knitting/crochet but I have stopped making my own creations and have instead stuck to following patterns.
Recently, I’ve been determined to explore and find inspiration again. So many people recommend “The Artist’s Way” but that did not resonate with me at all. I found it hard to not get derailed by the religious aspects of that path, even though they encourage to just think of any higher power. Since my desire to create comes from within I didn’t like that. Besides what I really wanted was projects and ideas and assignments.
I’m sure there are others experiencing burnout and trying to find a new creative path so I’m sharing some books I’ve enjoyed lately. Most of them are quick reads, and my favorite is “Art & Fear.”
I’d love if others shared recommendations!
So excited about this new book. I’m really interested in exploring adding data into my art.
"Penicillin Soup"
Chicken broth, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, salt
A ubiquitous combination made for people when they are feeling sick. It is so interesting me the combinations that seem to transcend cultures. Why is chicken soup what we make when people are under the weather? Why do we add this mix of vegetables?
Onion, garlic, and celery all have compounds in them that are antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. They also boost your immune system.
Carrots are packed with beta carotene, which becomes vitamin A which also supports the immune system.
The broth provides electrolytes and hydration. I make batches of it and store it in the freezer in 1 cup sized cubes. I will often add pasta or rice to it to make it a little more substantial, and the simple carbohydrates are good energy when someone is fighting off a cold.
If you want to cater this specifically to a cold add an herb:
Rosemary if your stomach is upset
Thyme if you have a cough/congestion
Ginger if you have a fever, or the flu
Sage if you have a sore throat
