Grace letting Eridinians do tests on him and they wanna test his vision because Earth also experiences night time, but humans can’t see very well in the darkness. For an apex predator, it just seems so odd to be able to see during the day but not at night almost at all. So they put him in a completely dark room with several obstacles of various sizes and did not tell him anything about where the obstacles were. They watch in horror as he instinctively gets low to the ground and not only starts feeling his way around, but also occasionally snapping his fingers or clapping in different directions to detect how close he’s getting to the obstacles and walls.

Grace has to explain how he used echolocation to his advantage and that it’s not really something most humans really use on a day to day basis, but being aware of it can come in handy if you know what you’re doing. At least in small spaces like a room or a house. This does not make Rocky feel better.
