Grace knows that Rocky has PTSD after the, well, everything. They've been stuck together for four years. He knows.

He understands.

They arrive to Erid, and one of the first things Grace does is playing for Adrian a little speech he made in Eridian using his recordings of Rocky's voice. And it's just... instructions. Mostly.

"He has a lot of anxiety about people's health and will probably freak out about yours at some point, don't dismiss it and let him see that you are okay."

"He is terrified of being alone, please make sure someone is physically close to him at all times."

"He is scared of falling asleep and will delay it as long as he can, you need to pay attention to his sleep cycle or he'll be hurting himself."

"He downplays everything bad that is happening to him, mental and physical, please keep an eye on him or he'll be ignoring his health completely."

"He never gave up, but I might die very soon and I'm not sure how he will react to it. Please be with him, even when it's not easy. He loves you. He wanted to return to you so badly. Even though he probably has changed, this is still him. Please keep loving him. He needs it more than ever. He'll need it when I am gone."

...Adrian is very annoyed because a) the fuck do you mean by implying that I'll leave him, b) the fuck do you mean by implying you know him better than I do (Adrian does have to begrudgingly accept this one later: Grace is objectively more familiar with Rocky's trauma responses), and c) the fuck do you mean you're gonna die no one's letting you die shut up and get into the lab we have science to do. They become friends fast, bonding over worrying about Rocky together.

(Rocky is not sure he likes it, but has to admit he can finally feel safe with the both of them by his side.)

Captains log: Bloodymary concept #249

I can't stop thinking about the Hail Mary actually having a bunch of vacuumed packed seeds on board for potential research purposes in case the crew actually did finish their mission but not enough resources on board to grow more than a few pots of small things.

And then Grace and Rocky get to Erid years later and the big problem is making the soil able to grow earth plants rather than figuring out an eridian made human food source and so they do figure it out and Grace helps a ton but once that's finished all that's left is the actual gardening and Grace HATESSS gardening 😭😭😭😭

Like maybe the work is too slow and too repetitive for him idk it's a chore like laundry or dishes rather than something he looks forward to.

And Simon notices that he leaves twice at the same time almost every day once in the morning where he looks excited (he's going to teach class) and once after lunch where he looks a little annoyed (he's going to check on the gardens)

And Simon is like okay where r u going and grace tells him and shows him the gardens and it's obviously mind blowing to Simon having only seen some greenhouses on Mars and the last tree. He gets SO invested in gardening the repetitive and physical work is GOOD for him and he loves it and it becomes his big role on Erid. He is THE local human gardener. And he finally feels like he can do something for Grace in return 😭😭😭😭 and it happens to be something that has a big role in healing him being able to create smth rather than destroy it but I gotta go

I just think that Rocky is the most feral possessive bitch to ever exist when it comes to Grace. Grace letting Eridinians do tests on him and they wanna test his vision because Earth also experiences night time, but humans can’t see very well in the darkness. For an apex predator, it just seems so odd to be able to see during the day but not at night almost at all. So they put him in a completely dark room with several obstacles of various sizes and did not tell him anything about where the obstacles were. They watch in horror as he instinctively gets low to the ground and not only starts feeling his way around, but also occasionally snapping his fingers or clapping in different directions to detect how close he’s getting to the obstacles and walls.

Grace has to explain how he used echolocation to his advantage and that it’s not really something most humans really use on a day to day basis, but being aware of it can come in handy if you know what you’re doing. At least in small spaces like a room or a house. This does not make Rocky feel better.

Simon being pulled out of the Iron Lung, they put him in a medically induced coma while he recovers and because of so much CO2 poisoning and radiation when he wakes up he doesn’t remember everything that happened in the Iron Lung.

What he does remember

- Most of his long term memory is intact, he remembers The Quiet Rapture, the COI, the blood oceans, Eden and his past.

- That he volunteered to help “research” in return for freedom- does not remember that the COI did not uphold their end of the deal.

- Remembers the creature, or at least that something attacked him- does not remember its true nature.

- Remembers the box- doesn’t remember what was in it or why it was so important.

- Cannot recall which parts of his memory were hallucinations and which were real.

Additionally after waking up he finds that he is rightfully:

- claustrophobic and asks Grace to leave doors open. Simon tries to keep the door open even if he’s in the shower/ bathroom. Even if it’s just a centimeter. Grace gives him the privacy by just taking a stroll outside. Simon insists that he can close the door, but Grace really doesn’t mind.

-Simon also refuses to enter the remains of the iron lung. Ooh boy when he does.

- hematophobic. Did not discover this until a hand slips, either his own or Grace’s and the sight of excess blood makes him nearly pass out. Absolutely a trigger.

- Somewhat thalassophobic. The sight of the beach isn’t unpleasant, but idea of the depths and dark water (or what hides beneath) makes him uncomfortable. He won’t go anything deeper than his waist. Grace gently reminds him that there is nothing actually in the water, but somehow that just reminds him of something someone else told him about the blood ocean. It doesn’t make him feel any better.

- Being from Mars didn’t save him completely from radiation but wowie he’s lucky he’s not from Earth.
