Cassie & Conner are setting up future Timkon??? Hellooo?????
Okay Young Justice Dark Crisis 6 just dropped and I am not seeing ANYONE talk about what Conner and Cassie are actually saying to each other implies????
OH MY GOD. So, for anyone not caught up, Young Justice Dark Crisis is not only addressing sins from the past, but also giving us a personal perspective check to show us character growth, and to further set the stage!! I’ve seen numerous people talk about how they don’t like don’t like YJDC because its “dark and depressing,” but I’m here to try to change your mind on why I believe that is actually an amazing premise if my thoughts are correct!!!!!
Okay, so, so far this comic series seemed to be bashing on everyone, especially Cassie. Or at least it makes you think that in early issues. But then BAM. Issue 6 comes out and its literally like a love letter to Cassie??? And although I WILL be going over that in more detail in another post, for this one, the simple explanation is it has Bart, and Conner, and Tim talk about how they looked down on Cassie or mistreated her, or third-wheeled her.
In fanon until now we’ve always sort of ignored those moments in the 90′s YJ series and called it out as “horrible male-ego writing.” But the writers here are refusing to let past mistakes go unchecked. And I know that’s why some people are upset, because its highlighting some of the more unflattering aspects about the early Young Justice series, but I’m here to tell you why that’s actually an amazing thing, because of what it is giving us here:
What’s going on right here is that Conner is in a spiral of self-doubt. He’s also ego-checking his past self. He’s talking about how he looked down on her at first, and how he didn’t treat her like an equal. He’s ashamed of himself.
This is hugely important, because it gives us, as readers, a chance to have a “reality-check.” This is them saying, yes, we loved each other very much, but we weren’t some paradigm of perfection. And that very much includes our relationship. This is SO important for future Timkon, and I’ll explain why!
