Context: My players were given a rescue mission to go to a country that doesn’t care of elves or magic users. While getting some information about the country from their quest giver, a few of the characters had some questions about the country. They were basically told not to use magic in sight of the guards or in front of crowds of people or they’d get arrested. And of course they all got nervous because none of the party is human, the majority of the people in this country. 

Air Genasi Bard: But I radiate magic! I’m blue and my hair blows like there’s always wind!  Quest Giver: You’re not an elf, you’re safe.  Drow Sorcerer: What about me?  Quest Giver: Yeah, but you’re sneaky. You can figure it out.

Context: I’m a new DM and my friend, who has never played before, and I were making a character for her together. So far she had settled on a half-elf druid.

DM: So, now that we’ve got the stats done, what do you want your character to look like?

Player: I dunno, what hair colours can I have?

DM: You’re a half-elf, so human hair colours, white, blue-

Player: I want white hair!

DM: Okay…

Player: And I want to be as pale as a Russian!

DM: …okay…

Player: And I want blue eyes!

DM: Sure…?

Player: F*CK YEAH, BLUE-EYES WHITE DRAGON!

DM: Why didn’t you take the Dragonborn race?!

Player: THE F*CK’S A DRAGONBORN?!
