Anyway this disability pride month I would like to shoutout disabled folks whose creativity has suffered because of their condition. I’m talking people with hand tremors and pain that stop them from drawing, knitting, and playing instruments. People whose thinking has become so disorganized that nothing they write makes sense to other people. People with chronic pain who can no longer dance. People so over medicated in a fruitless attempt to maintain stability that the wells of their imagination have run dry.

I see you and I love you. You are more than your creative output. You are not a shell of what you used to be. You are a whole, complete person, regardless of what your creativity has been, is now, or will be in the future.

Extract from The Bard Hero (title is not final). Little Link meeting his mentor to be, Vitalo.

I blink at him. “You want me to do dog tricks? Nobody’s going to want to watch that.”

“No. I want you to do people tricks: singing, dancing, acting, joking. That’s what I did before I got Capi, that was my dog, and while I was training him. With just me, it wasn’t great but it was okay as long as I kept moving. I’m not that fun to watch over and over again, not like a dog can be. Thing is, I don’t want to start traveling again. With both of us, I think we could be fun enough to make it even staying right here in town.”

“So… you want me to work for you?”

“Yep. In exchange, like I said, you eat every single day. AND you learn a living since I’m going to teach you everything you need to know. Gonna get you some work clothes, too.” He leans to the side and looks under the table.

I shuffle my bare feet.

“Including some shoes,” the old man adds. “Good leather ones. So what do you say?”

I stare at my empty plate and think. Food every day, and clothes, and learning how to make money… he wouldn’t say all this stuff if he just wanted to hurt me, he’d just follow me and wait until nobody was looking my way. Food every single day. And not garbage. And CLOTHES. And SHOES. And a JOB.

All of the works on this list have not yet gotten enough reviews to have a spotlight run on them, but you can change that! At the top of that post, you'll see a link that says "Review Form." This is where anyone can submit positive reviews to keep the Spotlights project going.

It is significant to point out that while we run the Story Spotlights project to highlight works, the full Expanding Hyrule collection is archival, NOT a rec list. This is an important distinction because it points out that we will include works even if we the moderators dislike or disagree with the works or creators included. The point of our blog is to compile original legends works regardless of personal opinion, and we run projects like this and Query the Archive to help people find more readers through the lists.

With that said, if there is a work you think deserves more attention, use the linked post above to go let us know so more people can connect with a work!

don't skip ahead of bullies and bully yourself first. don't badmouth your own work, it doesn't alter other people's opinion on art, but it does make you feel worse about yourself.

saw a post about this earlier but it made me think: tumblr really is the only social media site where I go on and have a good time and then carry on with my day. I know it's completely curated because there are some awful people here but that (the curation) in itself is a privilege of the site. Every other social media site is designed to make you angry for more engagement
