My first election, my views.
I came in to this election with fairly open eyes, in the 2010 election I was unable to vote but I still watched the debates and results, so I could get a general idea.. In 2010 I would’ve considered myself a Conservative or Lib Dem, now in 2015 so much is different.
Since then, I’ve had to enter the real world, buy food, pay rent, phone bills and live alone and I came into this election fairly left wing. When the campaign started I was still torn between the Liberal Democrats and Labour, but I later decided Labour was the party for me and my way of life.
I want to talk about a few things that I don’t understand about politics, our way of voting is stupid, it only aids those parties who are popular EVERYWHERE, in this election the Green party got slightly more votes than SNP however there were over 40 seats in difference, the Green’s actually got one seat. UKIP (however much I hate them) did not deserve ONE SEAT, they got over three million votes?! It’s stupid, and when there was a vote for AV (Alternative Voting), all the major parties scared everyone in to thinking that it’s something bad.
I’ve been going on about politics all week, and my co-workers hate me for it, so I promise this will be the last time you hear about it until another election approaches but one thing I don’t understand is the following.
Ed Milliband, Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage all resigned as party leaders following their defeat, something which is expected. But I don’t understand why it’s expected? Ed Milliband was not at fault for not winning the election, the damage done by the Labour party was none of his fault, it was the previous leaders.. Milliband led a very positive campaign where as David Cameron led a very negative one, it’s not his fault that the British public fell for the negative campaign.
As for Nick Clegg, why? You have made some mistakes, yes you went into coalition with the Conservatives but like you said, you did it for the country and not for the party.. Which I understand, and so will your party.. You didn’t keep your promises, but you sure did help calm down the Tory’s on their massive killing spree (metaphor) of working people.
And Farage, you’re an idiot.. But you’re an idiot I want to like.. Yes, your party is full of racists, sexists and homophobic cunts, but you kept them in line.. Now that you’ve resigned, UKIP have a seat in Westminster and they have no one to control them.. Bad move.
Politics confuses me.
