“I agree completely. I remember the one crappy one because of that, but I’ve forgotten most of the mediocre ones who didn’t give a shit about their students, you know?” He chuckled. “Most of my high school ones were really great. I only hope the people becoming teachers now can kind of keep the being decent human momentum going.”

“I know,” she agrees. “You tend to forget the crappy ones, or the ones that were just meh.” She thinks back and can remember some of her own teachers that were that way. “I hope we can keep it going. I know the teachers at my school try to be the best they can. I can’t vouch for other schools, though.”

“It really is the best feeling!” Mia smiles. “Anyway, enough about me. What’s up with you?”

“Right? My parents ripped her apart and she did get rightfully fired. I felt awful about causing someone to lose their job, but at the same time how can you be a teacher and think that’s okay?” he groaned, rolling his eyes. “Luckily my grade 3 teacher made up for it. I still talk to her today, even.”

“Well, she deserved it! Don’t feel bad! Exactly! Like how evil can you be to think doing something like that is okay?” She nods, remember some her own favorite teachers. “That’s amazing,” she smiles. “I love teachers like that; the ones you can always turn to and talk to. The ones who shaped you as a person.”

“Yay! Oh, when I tell then I have a special guest coming to see them perform, they are going to lose their minds! I’m so excited,” Mia squeals.

“You are most welcome.” She bowed a little. “Sounds like you really do have your hands full with all of those. You are? Oh my goodness, I would love to come and see!”

“I do, but it’s good,” she shrugs. “Mmhmm,” Mia hums. “It’s super cute! And they are so excited! You need to come! I’ll send you the date.”

“God, so true. I just don’t get the concept of embarrassing in public, what do you get out of it? I once talked in class in second grade and my evil teacher made me sit out in the hallway all day long and wouldn’t let me go back into the room and he actually got fired for it. Justice served, that fucked me up for so long.” He shook his head and chuckled. “At least good people still exist.”

“Oh my god!” Mia’s jaw dropped. “Seriously!? You were a baby! You were still learning! Glad she got fired, though. She deserved it. Yes, I’m glad good people still exist in the world,” she agrees.

Alisa chuckled softly as she raised one of her hands up like she was a girl scout. “You have my word that if I see something like that I will not judge because I might be joining in too.”

“Thanks, Mia nods. “But the insanity is going to calm down soon. We’re at the end of first quarter, so grades and assessments have to happen. And I’m rehearsing my first graders for their musical next month. It’s super cute! You need to come!”

   “I myself sometimes have an habit of being MIA and ghosting everyone,” he said with a sigh. “So, I have no right to give you the third degree about it.”

“I mean true. We both do important things in this city. I entertain the people and you make sure they stay fed,” she giggles. “I won’t judge if you don’t.”

“Wow, no wonder I haven’t been seeing you, you’re as busy as a bee. How have you found time to eat?!”

“I know! Chicken with her head cut off is more like it! let’s just say I eat on the train a lot,” she says. “So if you see some crazy chick on the train with headphones on stuffing her face like it’s her first meal all day, that would be me. Please don’t judge.” Not that her friend ever would, but Mia felt she had to add that disclamor.

“Oh my god, right?” Niko burst into laughter. “I’ll never understand what teachers think they’re getting by outright bullying kids in class. Humiliating them is what leads to problems, just fucking ask them to see you after if you need to speak to them about it, not in front of everyone which just causes more potential bullying. I’m not even a teacher yet and I know that!”

“Ha!” Miyana laughs. “Exactly! The only thing that will happen is kids will end up with anxiety and trust issues. I’m a music teacher and I know that! You talk with a kid privately if there is a problem, don’t do it in public. Ugh! The things we’ve learned in our year that we now can pass on to today’s youths.”
