The artist Guy Laramée uses books as the base of his sculptures. By carving them out and painting them, he attempts to illustrate the erosion of landscapes representing cultures as he creates natural scenes from the pages. Lamarée uses his art to reflect on society as a whole and to deliver a message by creating his own mediated worlds. He looks back at where we came from and because of this is a truly progressive human being as he works ahead into the future. Link: http://www.guylaramee.com
I have finished making my second font representing happy and light emotions
For this font, I used thinner lines, happier images, and shaded less of the pictures in order to make it seem brighter than the first font.
The next step of this project is to use these fonts in writing pieces.
After finishing the drawings representing each letter, I was able to scan the images I created and make them into a typable font. I am still working on the font for the other emotion but I am making good progress. After that, I plan on writing pieces in these fonts that deal with their respective emotions.
I recently came across a photographer named Andy Goldsworthy that uses nature and natural materials to create stunning pieces of art. This reminded me of many of our class discussions as we have been told to remember the past to head into the future. Before civilization, there was nothing but nature and the way these materials are being used to create modern things reminds me of the concept of using the old to make new. The quote at the beginning of the blog really spoke to me when I read it and also reminded me of something professor Novak would say- "We often forget that we are nature. Nature is not something separate from us. So when we say that we have lost our connection to nature, we've lost our connection to ourselves."

For my project, I am attempting to make typable fonts that convey different feelings. I printed a grid in order to keep the characters the same size and began drawing up ideas
This is one of my attempts at creating the basic drawings for the font titled "Dark" which is supposed to represent dark emotions like sadness, anger, and fear (image 1)
I decided to make a change to my original idea and use different images for each font to better represent things so, I started again and used images that made more sense without being too disturbing or offensive (image 2)
This it the finished product after outlining the images with a pen (image 3)
Now I will begin working on scanning the images onto the computer
A few posts back, I showed the incomplete version of my sculpture from the myth of the Golden Fleece. This is the finished sculpture which includes the sleeping serpent with the fleece wrapped around its tail.
Illustrated Worlds
Before
Research Question: How does creating an image in a different style effect the feeling it evokes?
Four Causes:
Material- I plan to make this project out of paper and ink creating many different styles of images into a sort of font.
Formal- For my project, I will basically be creating different 'fonts' with different styles of art out of animated objects.
Efficient- I am personally creating the images to make these fonts
Final- I wanted to see if the emotions that come from different writing pieces could be conveyed with different types of symbols. I hoped to play with language and see if I could create a sort of 'universal language' similar to the way people from all over understand body language. This new language would be created by art style in the font and would overall attempt to convey emotion over actual content.
After
Research Question: Can I create a new coded font that conveys an emotion?
Four Causes:
Material- I will be making this project originally out of paper and ink and will attempt to make it an actual typable font on electronic devices.
Formal- The form of this project will be both electronic and hand-drawn. I would like to bring printed out examples of the font for the class.
Efficient- I am personally making the font.
Final- I will be focusing on a specific font and will be creating it to match up with our alphabet. In order to make it the best it can possibly be, I will focus on two fonts and attempt to bring them onto the computer. I will choose two specific emotions to articulate through these fonts so I can really focus on the images I am creating. I hope to convey two opposing emotions in writing pieces that then can be decoded so they can actually be read.

It is interesting to see how we can create new worlds just by looking at things from a different perspective. The artist Slinkachu has been creating new worlds since 2006 with his miniature people. By using everyday objects and small human figures, he is able to create a completely new and different world that most would never think of
