When I worked at the migrant shelter, many of our migrants were coming from San Salvador. They told me some of the most horrific stories. Many stay behind and send their children to travel if they cannot afford to all go together. Many consider central American Migrants to be only economic migrants, but this is not true. Some are escaping violence too.

For those left behind, we need to help them too. Areas are affected by migration in multiple ways. Whole generations leave, but there is still a community that has to survive behind.

In much of current media, refugees are painted in a manner to evoke sympathy. This video introduces an older couple, teasing eachother and obviously still happy together. It is relatable. Maybe this is the manner that we should be sharing refugee media.
Finally had the chance to watch this last weekend. A short film but really struck a nerve. It should be noted that many of the children who are living, migrating and picking our fruit may not have American parents but have their own citizenship. The story of Perla touches on the plight of many children living with an unknown future just because their parent's are not from here.
