The course was mostly empty of people, except for a small family standing at one of the lanes a few yards away, and the strange combination of what appeared to be a speaking rabbit and a really big, jumpy top hat taking turns on each other. 

He had never really played mini golf before, but Mike had always wanted to. There was a mini golf place close to where he lived back in Indiana, but his father had always told him ‘another time’ whenever he were to ask for them to go. 

  “So, uuuh... Do you want to play? There clubs and other stuff right over there, and it doesn’t seem like they take payment for it. I mean, unless you don’t want to.”

Time was a concept Mike had long forgotten even existed. Well, that’s somewhat dramatic of him to say, but it was at least something he no longer felt a need to follow. He had no schedules, no morning classes, no mother that yelled at him to get out of bed already. 

At first it was kind of exciting. Then it became boring. He had never realised how much he would miss his mother’s voice or knowing when to see the sun go down. It just didn’t work like that in Citta. 

   “It’s the first of December?” He had overheard some old wives talk about it, and he leaned towards the hooded creature to confirm it. “Whoa.. It’s almost Christmas, isn’t it?”

The crass use of words surprised him, and it almost seemed like he was throwing a small tantrum. Mike didn’t really know what he had done to agitate such behaviour, but he brushed it off quickly. Things just were not the same here. The unusual man was clutching a honk hooter, and Mike slowly come to realise that perhaps he was supposed to be some kind of clown...? 

“Oh, I don’t really know anything about that. Usually when I get dressed up, it is my sister who helps me out. She’s a girl, so she’s good with all that make-up crap.”

He paused for a moment.

“Buuuut, I don’t really think you need to worry. You look plenty creepy the way you are now. It’s super cool by the way, is this your daytime job or something?”
