Reflection
The piece I did for the DMC Ask Merch project in May. This one was for an A4 wall poster.
The afternoon sun spreads its golden rays over the garden, illuminating the vibrant green of the leaves and the warm hues of ripe fruits. The scent of fresh, slightly damp earth blends with the sweet perfume of nearby flowers, creating an olfactory symphony that's impossible to ignore. Here, among the rows of tomatoes, strawberry plants, and aromatic herbs, time seems to slow down, allowing every moment to be fully lived.
The sensation of harvesting your own fruits and vegetables is almost magical. Fingers meet the soft texture of a ripe peach, the slightly velvety skin yielding to gentle pressure. The snap of plucking a tomato from its stem is satisfyingly audible, a small triumph that resonates in the soul. There is something both primal and deeply human in this act: connecting with the land that nurtures us, harvesting with respect what it generously offers.
On the way back home, the baskets overflow with the fruits of loving and patient labor. The fresh aroma of gathered herbs still lingers in the air, a promise of what's to come. In the kitchen, the ritual continues. Peeling, chopping, seasoning. Each gesture is meticulous and filled with intention, a moment of creation that is as much art as it is sustenance.
When the pan sizzles and the heat transforms simple ingredients into something extraordinary, the sensory experience reaches its peak. The smell of garlic browning in olive oil, the steam rising and warming your face, the vibrant mix of colors in the bowl. Eating what you have grown yourself is like savoring a piece of your own story. Each bite carries the sun, the rain, the wind, and the care you invested in those moments outdoors.
It is an act of resistance and a gesture of simplicity: harvesting, preparing, sharing. The life that pulses in the garden also pulses in the kitchen and, ultimately, in the heart of anyone who allows themselves to experience the joy at the table. And so, the cycle continues, a reminder that the most beautiful and precious things in life are often the simplest.
