She was a compulsive pessimist, always looking for the soft brown spot in the fruit, pressing so hard she created it.
- Amy Waldman, The Submission (via sugarskinned)
@leahbelfer.
Leah watched on, the whole ordeal stealing interest from the orange flicker of her cigarette. She’d only stepped outside to smoke and now she was faced with a situation she was more than confused about. If anything, she was lucky she hadn’t flicked away her cigarette butt without realising that an earth warrior was standing by with all that wrath. The blonde ashed into the garbage can instead of the ground this time. “You’re going to but the janitor out of the job.”
mia stood in the middle of many pairs of curious eyes at this point, but the unwanted attention was well worth it, to get her point across. “ he’s doing a pretty shitty job anyway. ” mia said with a slight chuckle, furrowing her eyebrows at the girl. “ you know that shit’s terrible for you, right? ”
@rileykncx.
“Hell no, sis,” Riley echoed, brow furrowing as she flipped through the pages of the ID magazine sprawled over her lap, “hell no.” Tittering under her breath at the taste of the quote in her mouth, something dollar store outrageous like a cheap tube of impersonation Polo mints, she tracked a first finger down the swish of a star studded fur coat pasted between the next block of text. “No need to throw it that hard, y’know. What did the soda can ever do to you? Harsh. The little guy has rights.”
“ okay, you’re not taking this seriously at all. ” mia shoved her hands into her pockets, realizing she had only been yelling to whoever would stop listen to her. “ you can continue with your academic reading now, sorry about that. ”
@lola-dupont.
“You weren’t, don’t worry,” Lola replied, her legs tucked under her skirt in a fashion reminiscent of a Catholic school girl. “I saw it too. I’ll even testify in court if the need arises.” She reached up to brush a strand of hair from her face, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. “Are you in ECO-Club, or something?”
“ someone has to call some of these entitled old men out on their bullshit. ” mia straightens out her t - shirt absentmindedly, chuckling to herself at lola’s comment. “ i’m not, actually. i’ve been thinking about some sort of student body president, not sure i’d have time for both. ”
@wesmccarthy.
“Maybe it’ll grow into a soda tree,” Wes droned, cigarette dangling from his lips.
“ that’s very comical, really funny. sadly jokes just aren’t going to make much of a difference when it comes to saving the planet. ”
@stellacarter.
“I’m pretty sure that picking up litter is the janitor’s problem, usually,” Stella said with a small smile, a cross between amused and annoyed. She truly hadn’t expected Mia to be such a handful, but at least she kept things…interesting. “But I’m sure you can pick up your paycheck on Friday.”
“ yeah, well he’s doing a shit job. ” crossing her arms over her chest, mia rolls her eyes to rid herself of the negativity, smiling at those who now walk by and dispose of their litter in the trash can. “ see? ” she gestures to the next person who follows suit, “ i can change the world, stella. just wait. one day i’ll be on the news for something worth while. ”
“ wait - i can’t be the only one who saw that nasty old biology prof throw his empty soda can on the grass?!! this man literally lectures about the earth for a living and you’re telling me he’s going to litter right in my face? hell no sis, hell n o. ” mia scoffs as she reaches down to scoop the litter off the ground, throwing it aggressively into the garbage can beside her as she straightens her posture again. “ god, do i have to do everything around here?? ”
Oh, but why did God give us fragile hearts and such brutal bones to house them in? I want to be all tenderness but my hands are much too harsh.

I just can’t get rid of the feeling that I am a bad person with a good heart. I always want to do the right thing but in the end I’m fucking things up. In the end I’m always fucking things up.

You are shaking fists & trembling teeth. I know: You did not mean to be cruel. That does not mean you were kind.
