I have read a book. A tumblr user recommended books critical of psychiatry between those Pharmageddon by David Healy. At the beginning he's a bit "everybody is autistic and adhd these days" but he does make a compelling argument somewhere after that imo. Surprisingly after describing a problem arising from a inconvenient web of incentives he doesn't go the leftube route of saying "and that's why capitalism sucks" , instead he presents a libertarian (?) argument that the FDA shouldn't be there, doctors shouldn't gatekeep the access to medicine and that only processes like the ones against big tobacco (civil case is it?) can keep big pharma under control (!)
Yeah unfortunately a lot of the people who grapple with genuine criticism of the healthcare and mental health sectors are either cranks or idiots which makes it difficult to also levy those criticisms while making it clear you're not with them.
It's like how a lot of people who want to decriminalize drugs are libertarians with similar reasoning making it fucking nightmarish to advocate for that in traditional leftist spaces who tend to consider that kind of stuff a liberal decadence at best.
Hi Abby! I have a question I’ve been wondering for a while, and I really hope it’s okay to ask. I’ve been a little worried about it because, idk…it’s a tough topic, and I know a lot of trans people get a bunch of bullshit flack, and I don’t want to accidentally contribute to that. That being said— do you miss anything from before you transitioned?
I’m definitely some flavor of trans, but idk what exactly 😅 and you’ve been a major hopeful figure to me. I just can’t help but wonder…is it…worth it? So many people say it is. But I’m so scared. I don’t want to lose my family or their love, even if it’s conditional. And sometimes I’m scared that I’ll miss aspects of myself as who I am now. So I wanted to ask you, because I look up to you and respect you a lot!
Sorry that this ask is a mess, I’m kind of all over the place. And obviously you don’t have to answer if it makes you uncomfortable or if these are shitty questions to ask. However! If you’re comfortable, I’d love to know your thoughts. Thank you so much for all you do — it’s more than you know.
In my experience yes it's absolutely worth it because the alternative for me was dying, so it'd have to be pretty rotten not to be worth it! But in addition to that quite grim baseline, yes I think it's the best thing I've ever done. It's allowed me to experience so much more of the variety and wonder of being a person in a way that I couldn't have imagined when I was in the closet - it's made me more intelligent, more moral, more compassionate, and closer to the people I love than ever before. There are challenges that come with it, sometimes huge challenges - especially in this time of transphobic backlash - but if you gave me a magic wish I really don't think I'd choose to have been born cis. In terms of worrying you'll miss aspects of yourself, I had that worry too - I discussed it with Mia Mulder when my egg was cracking and she said, "You will change, but you keep the good bits."
At the same time, it's important to be realistic: transition won't solve your problems and there are no consequence-free transitions. I was lucky in that there was only one person in my old life who couldn't accept me post-transition, but it was someone I loved very much and it still hurts a little - I still hope that one day we might find a way to be friends again. Transition also comes with tradeoffs and compromises, much like life!

You have to watch the dosage.
Have you read In Blood We Rise? It's a webcomic about gay vampires and Swedish witches
I have not but seems right up my alley and also based as fuck
you're drink/drugs video kicked ass, keep up the good work!
Thank you I agree, it's one of my best
just saw your story on twitter about getting a laser in the eyes, that's super scary and I really hope you're ok and there's no permanent damage
Lmao me too lol.
mia how do i get bitches
Okay so, step one:
Go to gendergp.com
Volvo or Saab?
Volvo makes fun cars and trucks but Saab makes the glorious multirole fighter aircraft JAS 39 Gripen, might of the Swedish Air Force, scourge of Russian airspace violators, champion of the Swedish meatball
But Volvo does make cars that look boxy, and my parents first car was a 1989 Volvo 740 that was boxy as all hell so I'm nostalgic
Give me your grain
M'lord the harvest has not been kind to us this year
this isn't a question but in Gran Turismo 5 or 6 you can generate race drivers and train them to be better over time
the game generated M. Mulder, so I decided that canonically she's a Swedish trans woman who also happens to have a ridiculous win/lose ratio
that's all x
God bless, Mia Mulder racing arc!!!
I'm assuming she, like me, can't drive and as such the ratio is ridiculous because she's never won or even managed to start the car
What's it like working in local government? I've considered running in my tiny town but I doubt I could reasonably get literally any votes or enough signatures to get on a ballot.
It's fun! I have no boss and because I'm in opposition my whole thing is criticism of the right wing majority. I spend my days writing angry speeches and once a month, I say them.
It's great!
I also get to propose fun left wing reforms for local schools and parks and whatnot, like free breakfasts in schools and no hostile architecture on benches and while most of the motions get voted down, sometimes you get lucky! We managed to get the municipality a survey drone saving a ton of money in the long term.
I'd suggest going for it, worst thing that happens if you don't get elected and then it's no change from the baseline. And if you do, you get to basically shitpost right in the face of the right wingers who want to make schools worse
What's the scariest word in the world and why is it "ordningsfråga"?
It's not ordningsfråga. It's kontrapropositionsvotering because you just know that whatever NGO you're part of is about to half 2 hours of tedious voting about something that really doesn't matter.
I love your videos! Also, I'm going to Stockholm (and Sweden in general) for the first time in the summer, any places you can recommend?
Hi! Thank you so much, I'm super late replying to this so you've probably already gone. But!
Skansen is pretty good, big zoo surrounded by old swedish heritage buildings so show the old fashioned swedish lifestyle. They got actors as well playing out the society and teaching you about sweden.
Abba museum is a fun thing for tourists, because of course. It's ABBA.
Vasa-museum is pretty fun in my opinion, but it is just a big ship-wreck. But those are typically the main draws. And they're all actually like, within walking distance from each other.
But the sights from the island they're all on are all pretty good, there's good resturants close by. The royal palace is not too far away as well.
I hope you enjoy/enjoyed your trip!
