I’m gonna need people to realize that whitewashing doesn’t just mean making a character of color white. Whitewashing has its roots in the idea of sanitizing something and making it more appealing to a certain audience (ie the “typical” white American man) and includes anything done to the source material to meet that goal. Removing queer themes, feminist themes, commentary on trafficking or drugs or the prison system or the military industrial complex- it’s all whitewashing.
